That wasnt a highlight real nor was it a fluff piece . There is more film out there that shows him doing more. You might want to check it out.

I've watched him play. I don't need to rely on highlight reels or 3 play breakdowns where he screws up 1/3 of the time.

If we are going to use blogger/beat guy opinions then the guy from CSNChicago thinks McClellin was setup to fail from the get go

Mullin: McLellin was ‘set up to fail’ with Bears

But i'm sure Deus and the other contrarians and doom and gloomers will act like the guy that gave him an F is definitive proof and will ignore the CSNChicago beat guy saying he was setup to fail

He absolutely was set up to fail. Could he have done better? Sure but the kid has had zero stability, played for crappy teams and finally settled in to a position and people say he still sucks. The film says he didn't.

Players screw up, Deus. It happens.

So for his 673 snaps he screwed up on 224.333 of them? Please.

Just stop. You are pissed off they signed him. Move on.

you consider 29 solo tackles and 27 assisted tackles with 4.5 sacks to be a good year?? You clearly have low expectations..

You are assuming that I haven't seen him play, watched highlights or read about him. Hell Gary Guyton had a good 2009 numbers wise but started because he had to.

Gimme a little more credit that that.

Deus give someone else credit? Never. Especially if you disagree with him. He'll rant on and on about how stupid you are..

No, I'm trying to get you to stop posting nonsense, and you posting a highlight reel of 3 plays in response is just more evidence that you're off your game. But don't take it from me:

Grading the 2015 Bears: Linebacker Shea McClellin

I get why BB is taking a chance on the guy. That doesn't mean he's been starting quality to date. He simply hasn't.

And just what are Luis Medina's credentials that qualify him to give out such gradings and have them be taken with anything more than a grain of salt?

Yeah. That's what I thought. Guy is some schmuck reporter for USA Today with no credentials. He's covered the Bears for a few years. But he's mostly a baseball guy..

I you think Hicks wasn't good in 2013 you clearly don't know anything about football. He was the starting DT on the 4th best defense in the league. If you actually watched games instead of just looking at stat sheets you'd know he was very effective stopping the run and rushing the passer that year. Which is why so many here were happy when he was traded here.

Decent contract for McClellan….Reis writes….3 years / $12 mill / $3.5 mill guaranteed. Considering 2 Pats LBs will be FAs next year…….seems BB is taking a similar approach at LB that he took at DE last offseason when he brought in Sheard. Call it insurance, call it leverage, call it depth…….call it BB preparing for all possible scenarios. Here's hoping they find some quality LB depth in the next couple of drafts

Marqui - I do watch games. Comments like yours show that you are the one who doesn't know jack about football. Do yourself a favor and take your negative nancy comments to trollville where they belong. The adults would actually like to talk football without your ridiculous comments cluttering the board.

I'm a bit taken aback by the contract. I expected something lower than that simply because there didn't seem to be much of a market for him. But obviously there was or BB valued him enough to want him here longer-term than just a one-year re-build your value deal a la Chris Long and Andre Carter and many before them.

In BB we trust though. Shea didn't look very good last year, but that doesn't mean he can't turn it around in a better system that uses his strengths and surrounds him with better players. And he's still young enough that he could develop into a useful player. The contract tells me that BB thinks he has enough skills that could be leveraged in our system, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him have a breakout year. We have a long history of players who sucked on bad teams suddenly becoming key contributors here. I am hoping Shea is the next one.

Agreed. I would think that BB would get the benefit of the doubt here (beyond, you know, the four rings and sustained excellence over a decade) by the remarkable roll he has been on the last 2-3 years with poaching players / cast-offs from other team for virtually no draft capital. That roll started about the time that Lombardi came on board, but that could be coincidence. Let's look at the last year and a half or so:
  • Dion Lewis
  • Jamaal Sheard
  • Akiem Hicks
  • Akeem Ayers
  • Jonathan Casillas
  • Keshawn Martin
  • Justin Coleman
  • Tarell Brown
  • Scott Chandler
Those are the ones that come to mind. Virtually all made important contributions. The only clear swing and miss was Scott Chandler, and maybe Tarell Brown (who was starting before being injured). None of these guys became all-pro, but considering that the acquisitions cost little or no draft capital, it really seems like a remarkable run of reclamation successes.

I guess Shea could end up being the exception, but BB clearly valued the guy with the contract he gave him and his recent history with reclamation projects is pretty impressive. Hopefully Shea can be added to this list of successful moves at this time next year. ;)

Good post but I do think you could have come up with something better than "trollville"; that's the only thing keeping it from a 10.

People can climb back down off the ledge about the McClellin conrtact.

I knew it, 3yrs/$12mil was completely insane for a player that's been a bust. These number make a lot more sense.

Why were people reporting $12m total cash value? Looks like ~$9m to me

That was the first thing I posted on this when the deal was initially announced. They're paying for ONE year and the Patriots have full control over years 2 and 3 with little dead money.
