Can't help but wonder if Bjorn Werner is salvageable. He'd only add to the "former 1st acquisition project" going on as of late. :D

Nah. Nick Fairley, former 1st rounder, is still available and there is a need for a DT.

Fairley is still out there?!?! Is he hurt or something?

I obviously hope Im wrong, but this guy isnt good from what I saw. Would rather find a rookie.

MccClellin underachieved in Chicago, where 3 defensive coaching staffs could not find a role for him to thrive in, and he could not live up to his draft pedigree.

Last season, as MLB, he just seemed slow to react... indecisive... although he called the defensive signals for the front 7.

Hopefully, McClellin is the latest in a line of players the Patriots take who played poorly elsewhere, and improve with a change of scenery.

Between McCellin, Cooper and Long if even 1 guy lives up to his full potential this year that is a huge win overall.

Bb needs to sign upshaw!

This better not be for much money, I'd don't know how they commit to this guy before Collins and Hightower are locked up.

They needed a Mayo replacement.

Bears fans saying he sucks... Which is ironic given the fact that they just signed a guy for $5m per from the Pats that sucked before he came to NE and became a beast

Show me a group of fans whose team sucks, especially the better part of multiple years in a row, and I'll show you a group of bitter fans down on an array of players -- some of who are in fact good players. It's just the nature of the fandom beast. But they may be right and this guy may be/end up a negative even though bitter fans opinions are rightly viewed with some skepticism.

Bottom line: If this guy is focused on his job and willing to work Patriot hard at improving (fair chance of it)? And if BB and staff well define what his responsibilities are and put him in proper positions to succeed (good chance of it)? This is SM's prime moment to succeed at least at a modest level. It's now or it's likely never. But if he does succeed, our potency at LB is sweet along with our flexibility to deal with injury improved. If he doesn't succeed? Hopefully the contract is structured that he can be let go with little dead money blowback (3 year for SM? I'm assuming the contract is heavy on incentives).

Bears fans have spent the past 4 years being furious that this guy was taken over CHandler Jones. Funny how this stuff goes.

Bostic was a 2nd round linebacker from The Bears who never emerged. Doubt McClellin is any different. Same Bears coaches, same situation - 1st round JAG.

Brown, Cooper, and McClellin are just really athletic 1st round JAGs. Nothing more. Nothing to see here.

Marcellus and Chris Long both had great years at some point so I am sure they can contribute, but it doubtful they will be great again. ;-).

Well, good morning, Mr.Sunshine! :)

This is round 2 of the Patriots FU tour, you took our 1st away.. but f.. you Goodell we can still play this game, and play this game very well....

Meanwhile in the NFL Basement Roger and his minions are engaging in daily primal scream therapy..

McClellan had his best year as a pro at ILB in 2015. Not to say he was an all pro, but he emerged as a strong run defender and played consistently well in John Fox's defense.

I love the move, though I'm not expecting him to emerge as the next Vrabel or Nink. He'll be a strong sub defender on running downs and a better than replacement level starter when Hightower and/or Collins get hurt. Pretty much exactly what the team needed at LB.

While he played ILB last year, this year he will be a MLB in a 4-3 some of the time so there will still be another new position for the kid to learn. Hopefully the transition won't be too hard. As many, he was a draft Binkie of mine also.

Interesting that Bears fans complained that they took this guy over Chandler Jones and now we have him instead of Jones.
