NFL going after Gronk for his party cruise having gambling

I've been on many cruises, only the Disney ships do not have a casino. As others have said, those casinos are only open in international waters or in a port, where that country's law allow it (Bermuda for instance).
They also have scratch tickets and Bingo!

The NFL just won the case (by summary judgment no less) that Romo had for them shutting down his fantasy football function (This of course coming to you by a league that sold millions of dollars worth of advertising to DraftKings and Fan Duel). I don't know if fantasy football is or is not gambling, my opinion is that its throwing your money away because the kids from MIT are going to clean your clock.

There is however, no sports gambling on a casino. Unless the NFL has some stipulation in the player's contract that he can't enter a legal casino, I don't see a case here.

Of course I said that about deflatgate once we learned the facts, but that didn't stop the NFL either.

If specific people can clean your clock, I'd say it's not gambling. Just my opinion though.

WHY MUST THERE ALWAYS BE A PROBLEM?!?!

It goes without saying that NFL attorneys are not "above reproach."

This smells like someone (**cough**Pash**cough**Gardi**) trying to tuck it a little bit to Fredo Shaft. As we all know, Fredo's public balancing act is to pretend that the lawyers are driving the Park Avenue clown car, rather than Commissioner Scheisskopf, so the revenge motive is a likely driving force for this IMHO.

As usual, the NFL "leadership" fails to think about "what can go wrong for me if I do this;" do they really want people to start thinking about the "intersection" between the NFL and gambling?? Moronic.

/[puts on tinfoil hat]

Since the onset of the "I don't know crap about a fundamental principle of science"-gate fiasco, I've been highly skeptical that the impetus was Green Bean-based jealousy. I think there is a more compelling potential motive for them to try to affect the outcome of Super Bowl XLIX and the 2015 season, the 2016 draft, etc. If you were a "gambling industry" person, who better to develop a "relationship" with than someone in a position to impact the whole league via penalties, suspensions, adverse media leaks and other distractions, etc. Just sayin'

/[tinfoil hat off]

The issue is that Gronk promoted his party on a cruise ship which has gambling operation in-house.

The question is was Gronk compensated for promoting the party and indirectly provides games of chance in which monetary gains can be realized.

I understand the NFL's predictament here. Players cannot endorse properties which provide leagalized gambling. What if the establishment has in-house bookmaking?

With that wild-ass tangent addressed, it's reasonable for the NFL to say, "Don't do that again" and be done with it.

With that said Gronk cleared it with the NFL so they are idiots for giving him the green-light to do this.

Anything beyond that is ********.

It was a partial summary judgment (apparently, one claim out of three was tossed).

Oh boy. Another investigation, conspiracy filled off season.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

Check this link out: Three cheers for the best cruise lines for football fans

As Official Cruise Line of the Miami Dolphins, Norwegian Cruise Line heavily promotes to fans of the team, including with simulations of shipboard activities set up at Sun Life Stadium. The Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders are the godmothers of Norwegian Getaway, the line's newest ship and the largest ship to homeport in Miami. Shipboard, Norwegian shows several of the biggest NFL games throughout the week and then all playoff games.

WHY MUST THERE ALWAYS BE A PROBLEM?!?!

Because the media spend every minute of their pathetic existence either desperately looking for a problem or creating one.. . Controversy sells, because our society is pretty pathetic as a whole

Get Gronk's phone.

"Some bro:Hey Gronk we're going party hard tonight bruh."

"Gronk: Ah yeah man you can bet on that."

REPORT: GRONK IS A BOOKIE

Damning evidence was found when a Gronk text telling a friend he can "Bet on that" was sent. Punishment to come.

The league is very clear on this matter.

Why the NFL told players and NFL employees not to attend Romo's FF event doesn't make any sense.

“It is hard to see the influence that it could have on an outcome of a game because individual players are picking different players from different teams, mashing them up, if you might call it that,” Goodell told reporters after Wednesday’s owners meeting at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan.

“And it’s not based on the outcome of a game, which is what our biggest concern is with sports betting. So our position continues to be that way. But we recognize some states consider it legal, and some don’t. We’ll follow that law.”

Websites such as DraftKings and FanDuel have spent millions of dollars on advertisements on NFL broadcasts and at stadiums, but Goodell said the league will reconsider allowing teams to accept ads from daily fantasy sports companies.

“Consumer protection and making sure companies operate responsibly is important to us,” Goodell said. “And so, yes, that’s going to be important to us. We’re going to want to make sure that our fans are protected, the consumers in general are protected, and that we expect anyone that’s involved in any way — whether this is an advertiser or a sponsor or any other relationship — we do that in a responsible fashion. And I hope they will do that.”

FanDuel and DraftKings scandal won't tarnish NFL: Goodell

Wow. You triggered this for me.

Patriots fans cruise to the Caribbean with former players

The Pats promote cruises as well. Right on the team web site.

There has got to be more to this than the gambling angle. Maybe they don't want players to have a direct sponsorship deal with resorts and this is a way of discouraging the activity?

Ridiculous.
Agreed.
It seems hypocritical to me to make a distinction between a Team promoting a cruise and a player promoting a cruise.
