Would you like Coby Fleener as a no2 TE?

Disagree on this, Chandler made too many critical drops and Brady wanted nothing to do with him when it mattered down the stretch. They should move on from him and try to upgrade.
If he was successful at all there would have been times where he would have been the first read while Gronk was in.
This would have solved some of the double and triple teams Gronk saw, and might have one us 1 more game, which puts the AFCCG in Foxboro. But he sucked!

He's a pass-catching tight end who hasn't lived up to the hype. And he is a Colts. But can be a mismatch in McDaniels offense. What do you think?
What hype? He didn't get hyped that much coming out of school. My memory that getting picked in the 2d was considered a reach, although not a bad one because he was being kept with his binky Luck. And as far as that goes, I don't expect him to leave his binky.

Have to disagree Cousin. Gates approaches 40 (35) and Fleener is 27. Fleener has averaged 5o catches in the last three seasons and he has not been the featured receiver. This year Luck has been injured and he still had a decent year. AH was NOT a blocker. He got in the way. Fleener is 6'6" and 251lbs with 4.51 speed. He is bigger to get in the way. Did Chandler block anybody?

This of him as the AH "H" back with more speed and size. Hernadez ran a 6.83 3 cone to 7.02 for Fleener, but Fleener's 10 yard split was only 1.56 to 1.65 for AH. AH ran a 4.64 40 again compared to 4.51. Fleener would be our second fastest receiver after Edelman.

Think upgrade on Chandler and a real Red Zone nightmare with Gronk.

Again, Fleener is still young and can upgrade his blocking skills. I do not know if Gates is much of a blocker.

Fleener has played in every game the last three years. Gates missed 5 games in 2015. You sure Gtaes is MUCH better? In the past your are correct but age is apparent and the Chargers will resign Gates anyway.

Fleener does has tremendous measurables and a lot of upside, that's for sure. He's been reasonably productive. Given his upside, decent productivity, and relatively young age, I have a hard time believing that he couldn't find a starting job somewhere if he does leave Indianapolis. I think he'll get more than we can afford.

I also have a hard time believing that if Gates is willing to play for the minimum that he'll leave San Diego, but I guess if he really wants to win it's not out of the realm of possibility. That said, if he is willing to ring chase for the vet min, there are going to be countless teams lobbying for his services.

Chandler was despised in Buffalo. People there celebrated when he left. The only games he would do something of notice was against us.

He was a bust-signing. It happens, life moves on and the 2nd TE position must be upgraded

I swear, I must look like the president of the Scott Chandler fan club sometimes. I was really disappointed in him. But I really don't understand half the stuff that gets said in complaints against him.

Sure, Buffalo fans might have been pissed at him. What exactly does that have to do with anything? Do Buffalo fans know anything about winning football?

Bear in mind he cost $1.9M against the salary cap his last season, and he produced 47 catches in 70 targets (67%) for 497 yards, 10.6 YPC and 3 TDs. He cost $1.9M against the salary cap. They couldn't wait to get rid of him.

But then they sign Charles Clay for $7.6M average, $5M last year, and he produces 51 catches in 77 targets (66%) for 528 yards, 10.4 YPC, and 3 TDs.

But they despise Chandler? I mean, between the two, you'd think Clay would be the guy they'd be regretting right now.

And again, none of this excuses the poor season from Chandler. It's just weird how anyone would use the opinion of Bills fans as proof of anything other than inbreeding produces stupid people.

Bills fans saw him play on a regular basis, they saw 4-5 years of the guy we saw last year. He's not good.

I'm not disagreeing about Chandler, but I think you're missing the point.

I don't understand how Bills fans can be so ecstatic to get rid of Chandler, then pay someone 2.5 times more (and on a way longer contract with way more guarantees) to more or less produce the exact same. They gave Clay $24M in guaranteed money and he pretty much did what Chandler used to do, only at a higher cost. And Clay's contract jumps this year to compensate for last year's low hit. He has a $10M roster bonus due March 11 which pushes his cap hit up to $13.5M for the 2016 season.

Say what you want about the guy, and most of it is true. But in his last year in Buffalo, he finished 19th among TEs in catches and 18th in yards. Yes, he sucks. But that is also the state of the position.

We are spoiled by Gronk and when we had Hernandez, we saw Olsen in the Super Bowl, and we think great TEs are easy to find. Only 18 TEs broke the 500-yard mark last season. Even after making fun of Clay, it's worth noting he finished 17th in receptions and 16th in yards last year.

Chandler does suck, but so do a lot of TEs. He might just suck less than you think when you look at the rest of the world outside of Gronk and Hernandez.

Bills fans, I would assume, were happy to get rid of Chandler in and of itself. Clay, while overpaid, had some injury issues and their whole offense wasn't very good. Going forward, I'm sure they're happy to have Clay over Chandler, even if he's not worth the money. I'm putting very little stock in Chandler's stats here and in Buffalo as proof he really isn't that bad. They don't tell the whole story and are mostly just accumulated through playing time. I'm capable of judging Chandler's play without having Gronk and Hernandez as the only measuring stick. Pats can and should do better.

What about the other TE from SD, Ladarius Green? Is he worth a look?

Clay getting cut and coming here would be OK with me :)
