Jerod Mayo Retiring as a Patriot.

Mayo was one of those guys who made it easy to root for him. Nothing but a true leader on the field and didn't act like a complete ****ing moron off of the field. Class act through and through, gonna miss him a lot more than I realized.

*sniff*

I gotta ask, what does this do for our cap?

Frees up at least $7m..

Although the $7m was based on his option not being picked up. No clue if it frees up more now that he is retiring.

An incredible man, whose body just hasn't been able to stay healthy.

Wish him nothing but the best, and would lvoe for him to stick around in some capacity

Ya i was wondering about that, obviously the 7 mil is banked which is huge! but id imagine retiring would affect the dead money cap hit? Hopefully its the full 11!

Mayo was a great player for the pats. The window in football closes so fast. All the best to Jerod.

Mayo had a Derrick-Rose type career. Shame injuries sapped his ability.

Rookie Mayo vs. the Jets on TNF (Cassel's epic comeback coming up short in OT) is still one of the greatest games played at ILB I've ever seen.

So I guess we just keeping this as Mayo cut.

apparently the 4.4 mil is still considered dead money. Cap savings around 7 mil

The Patriots will save $7 million on their cap with Jerod Mayo off the books, with $4.4 million in dead money left.

He was never the same after the 2013 season ending injury he had. Sad to see him go.
I remember a game before that injury he had an insanely dominate performance vs the Bengals. Sad to see it end this way but, at least it ended with a ring. Although he wasn't a big factor in 2014 he deserved it for his performance in previous seasons.

Wow I didn't expect him to retire. Great player, gonna miss his presence out there. I hope he considers coaching for the team.

That 10 mill in savings is the entire draft class.. Hightower..Collins..forte..other FA ect. THey are just fine $$ wise

Coach Mayo sounds sweet. I'd take him as successor to BB in a half decade or so.

Retired?

I guess the money he'd make from playing in the future would be small compared to what he's made this far, so other considerations -- starting with health and family -- could easily win out.
