Brady's passing yards lost due to penalties

Blandino is proud of his minions..
What really sucks is that with everything that has happened over the last year, I'm waiting for this team to be victimized by a Ben Dreith moment by way of a late flag.

I'm calling it, "We got Blandino'ed,"

If I see that in the playoffs and I'm the least bit skeptical, I'm out. I don't care if the Pats overcome it and go on to the Super Bowl. I will not watch nor will I follow the NFL anymore. I understand some here still will watch and invest their time and energy into such a farce, but I will not take it up the ass like that. I'll find a more productive use for my Sunday afternoons.

Where's the stat on how many plays the opponents have gained on missed calls? We're probably leading in that, too.

Here's Brady's numbers in a tabular format for your convenience.

Is this data correct? WTF!! Is "THE FIX" In ... or is there some other factor at work?

Year Rank Penalty Yards Total Yards Percentage
===========================================================
2009 ___ 11 ___ 134 ___ 4398 ___ 3.0%
2010 ___ 4 ___ 165 ___ 3900 ___ 4.2%
2011 ___ 4 ___ 244 ___ 5235 ___ 4.6%
2012 ___ 7 ___ 147 ___ 4827 ___ 3.0%
2013 ___ 5 ___ 171 ___ 4343 ___ 3.9%
2014 ___ 3 ___ 243 ___ 4109 ___ 5.9%
2015 ___ 1 ___ 504 ___ 4770 ___ 10.6%

Those 2015 numbers are crazy! No parity here!

To be fair, Luck had about the same percentage lost to penalties this year as Brady. 185 yards lost on 1881 passing yards.

Besides the number of passing yards that the Patriots lost to penalties, it is also interesting to note what team lost the fewest yards in that manner: the Jets.

The first twenty players on that list were full time or close to full time starters. From that point on only a few were week in, week out starters. Fitzpatrick ranked 26th with only 86 yards. How does a guy who played every game end up with numbers comparable to quarterbacks that only played a handful of games? Fitz is just ahead of Joe 'Jump Ball' Flacco, who had just 73 yards. How does a guy whose favorite play is to throw it up for grabs lose almost no yardage on penalties? Their ratios of passing yards to lost yardage is even more of an outlier than Brady's numbers.

Nothing at all to do with NYJFL or a thank you to Baltimore for setting the wheels in motion, I'm sure.

Absolutely maddening. And the worst part is, if we complain (because other teams do the same things as our players [pick plays, slight pushing off, etc.]) we'll just be accused of "cheating" again.

OK. I analyzed the data for 2015. To make my analysis reasonable, I only looked at Passers with over 1,000 yards, which gave me a universe of 39 passers.

I then looked at two data series.

The first (and obvious) was "Passing Yards Lost to Penalties." This is what the data show:
Mean: 140.03 Yards
Standard Deviation: 90.23
Brady: 504 yards
Interpretation: Brady was just above four full Standard Deviations away from the mean (four sigma).
On the following chart, you can see that nearly all passers cluster around the mean (140.03 yards). Brady is the single data point way, way out to the right in the category "More." (FYI: Carson Palmer is the one passer who sorts into the 250--300 yard bin. Four passers sort into the 200--250 yard bin: Winston, Ben, Dalton and Eli.)

I then added the "Yards Lost" to "Passing Yards" and looked at "Yards Lost" as a percent of the sum. This is what the data show:
Mean: 4.05% (i.e., the average "Yards Lost" for a Passer were 4.05% of "Yards Lost plus Passing Yards")
Standard Deviation: 1.95%
Brady: 9.6%
Interpretation: Brady was nearly three Standard Deviations away from the mean (three sigma).

What does this mean? Well, you always have to be careful with statistics and sample sizes, etc. And, I only looked at the data for 2015, since one can argue that the "points of emphasis" on a yearly basis make each year its own "universe" for statistical purposes. And, if I were doing this for publication, I'd be more careful in delineating my bins.

But with those caveats, there is no reasonable argument that can be made that this is Random. These data reveal a pattern of discrimination that would, I believe, stand up in court.

Right. and Blandino (or can we call him Bandito?) will be up there spewing the "stats" that the number of penalties being called is on pr with other years. Obviously, they'll never tell us about grading, non-calls, or how information is communicated to refs about what to watch for.

The potential scandal that is brewing because the NFL* office is really trying to control the media message works only as long as the NFL* is making money. The higher the ride, the deeper the fall and the owners seem to think this setup/ability to manage the big business that is media will go on forever. It might take more time, but eventually the truth will get out there.

simply put power corrupts and absolute power positively corrupts..........which fits Goodell and his goons to a tee.

Media are paid spun ****es who will NEVER call it out like it needs....just small stories that get written off a "Pat's Sympathizers" piece

That is crazy, because on more than one.occasion I posted how the jets push off so much it's like they know they won't get called. They're red zone plays were based on picks and push offs.

Watching the Seattle-Minnesota game the other day, I saw the Minnesota TE run straight into Kam Chancellor, who, yes, grabbed him a bit.

Chancellor got called for DPI.

All I could think was, "That's OPI if it's the exact same play with Gronkowski."

Anybody want to disagree with that?

ps. If anybody can find/embed the video of that play, please put it here along with the video of the OPI called on Gronk on that big 3rd down in Denver...puts this whole thread in perfect perspective.

Year Rank Penalty Yards Total Yards Percentage

2010 4 165 3900 0.042%
2011 4 244 5235 0.046%

2014 3 243 4109 0.059%
2015 1 504 4770 0.106%

Your decimal point is off by two places in the column labeled "Percentage". 2015 should be 10.6%.

Boy, we sound whiney on this board. Sounds as if we're practicing our excuses already. Let's wait for the game to unfold and point to actual in-game instances, if they occur, instead of examining past injustices. It does no good and it only makes us all paranoid. End of lecture.

Doubt it unfortunately. I think the scrutiny will be even more magnified because....well.....its NE.

If anyone thinks Roger is going to let the Patriots win another SB if he can help it, they are beyond saving at this point

They may get to the AFCCG so that the nfl can have one final Manning vs Brady mega-ratings blockbuster, but unless the Pats win convincingly and leave no chance for the refs to decide the game on a couple calls, that is exactly what will happen

I get overcome with anger when reading things like this that just make it so obvious what is going on and just reaffirms the feelings we've had watching the games play out

It's just ruining this sport for me

Thanks, bresna! I think I fat fingered the whole percentage column. Too much alcohol.
