Brock Vereen to Practice Squad...

He was considered to be a better athlete than his brother. Chicago is/was a mess.

He was also pretty bad at safety, and lost his starting job last year.

Could he become a great corner after failing at safety? I don't know, but I'm not really hopeful. That's not usually how that transition between the two positions works.

This is a fine pickup for the Practice Squad. I don't see how it would affect anyone but those on the Practice Squad.

That being said, I have Tavon Wilson at the most vulnerable player on the 53 man roster.

Supposition in the article somebody quoted was that he replaces Coleman while Coleman is temporarily hurt. You cant replace an active player with someone from the PS, so what then?

All a bit theoretical and BB always seems to have those last couple of roster guys that he shuffles back-forth, so if he were needed....I'm sure it could happen.

I guess he is that bad if the bears and lions have cut him

You're talking about two of the most disfunctional teams in the league currently. They are right up there with the Browns when it comes to being horrible at talent evaluation..

So, i have to ask the obligatory---who do you cut/IR to make room?
Tre Jackson or Sealver Siliga. Possibly Tavon Wilson..

Familiarity? Did Shane steal defensive playbooks so he could read them?

Vereen could have spent time with Shane when Shane was here. Particularly after the football season was over.. Also, the Pats looked at him when Brock was entering the Draft..

The more I think about it, the more I believe that Sealver Siliga is the odd man out if Brock Vereen is activated to play CB.

He's seen his snaps fall dramatically since the addition of Akiem Hicks.
The Pats have gone to using Chandler Jones, Sheard, or Geno Grissom along with Easley on the inside during obvious pass rushing situations..
The Pats would still have Branch, Brown, Easley, and Hicks as true DTs..

Along the same lines in this thread, what the hell happened to Dennard? Guy had a promising start and now he can't find work anywhere - still a free agent.

That's just weird.

My guess is attitude. He shot his way out of New England and clearly didn't do what was needed to stick around the Cardinals, though the Cardinals have a great set of CBs..

Vereen flamed out in Chicago, but I still like his Potential as a CenterFielder.

Not so much as a Corner, though.

I gave'm a *Warrior Grade, which translates to 2nd/3rd Round Value in my corner of the Galaxy. :p

*The Term I used at the time was StudHorse ~ SemiTough Reference, of course. :D

Yea before the NYG game he really dropped off but seemed to be back in the reg rotation by 27% of the snaps. That might have been just that game....

I don't think he has necessarily played bad. Its just that Brown has played more because he has really improved and Branch, Hicks and of course Easy bring more of a pass rush and more athleticism to the table.

I think its next week that they need to make a call on Chris Jones- who also provides more of a pass rush than Seal.

Chris Jones is the threat to Siliga, per the pass rush rationale cited previously
Kinda sad that Tavon Wilson is the most universally detracted player in this forum. Never had such a broad consensus on who sucked. Few if any supporters.

Apologies to Mrs Wilson, his mom.

Wilson is fine. Hes a good STer.

The problem is that Richards has passed him so that does create a question about him sticking.

In VW, Branch, Chris Jones and Seal last year they only really had 4 interior DTs.

This year they have Brown, Branch, Hicks, Seal, Easy and need to make a call on Chris Jones.

With Brown, Branch and Hicks playing so well it does create the question about Seal being part of this team. Jones too for that matter.

I don't think we need to promote Brock Vereen. If he made it to our PS then clearly other teams weren't interested or he would rather be on our PS than the wrong team's 53 at this critical point of his career.

Chris Jones is the only player we need to make a decision on.

They need to decide on Dane Fletcher as well. I predict that he will be added to the 53.

I don't know who will be cut. Depending on how the rest of the roster shakes out it could be a number of players.

Definitely don't *need* to promote Vereen. The general premise was that the Pats only have 4 corners, Coleman has a broken hand and hasn't practiced all week, and it turns out that Vereen's been playing CB on the practice squad since he's been here. I would be extremely surprised if they ever went into a game with only 3 CBs active. So if that's the case, there is a good shot that Vereen (or Chris Greenwood) gets promoted for the game for depth purposes.

Well, to complete the thread and call myself out, Coleman is inactive but no other move was made. So they're going into the game with only 3 cornerbacks active, with McCourty presumably number 4. Shows how much I know.... Obviously let's hope that it all works out, no one gets hurt, and that the Pats win the game.

This whole thing is going to be interesting. I'm expecting more we go with our 3 corners and McCourty plays more corner too with Harmon at safety. I would be curious to see Vereen or Greenwood in at corner. Maybe we found some hidden gems. I would much rather Dax Swanson come back though.

This is a 3 safety game.

The Bills have one WR, Watkins. Their second WR, Woods, gets about 40 yards a game. Clay is really their second receiver with McCoy getting some too.

I'm not sure we need 2 CB for this game, let alone 3 (barring injury). This is about Watkins, Clay and the RB.

I am not sure I understand, but do you want to cut Tre Jackson? He is a rookie who was a major part of the OG rotation, with tremendous upside. Siliga is a starting caliber DT on most teams in the NFL.

I don't think Vereen has been here long enough to put him out there. Maybe after the coaches have worked him a couple weeks. We need a cb backup and he could be it at the slot position sliding Melvin or Devin if needed.

I find it out Siliga's name is often mentioned when it is Flowers that is not contributing.
