Disclaimer: Just a short read to help get you through the bad pre-game shows. ;)

1.Like the title suggests the Pats are pretty much in a "no win" situation this week. If they have a 1o point win the media will complain we took them too lightly If they blow them out with a 40 point win the mediot s will complain we are running up the score And god forbid, if they lose, the walls will come crumbling down, and the end of the world will be upon us.

So make sure you get a good pizza while you watch this game, because about the best you can hope for from the mediots and experts analyzing this game will be that no on gets hurt. Everything else will be subject to extreme over analysis. And it won't help that we have 2 weeks until the next game. That will be a lot of time to fill. The speculation will fly

2. The more I've discovered about the Jags the more I like this team. I give you the usual line. They are young, hungry, big, fast and athletic. Gus Bradly is comes from Seattle and its clear that he is patiently drawing his blueprint from that design. He also has an owner who seems willing to allow him to build that team in the image he wants,. And it looks to me that the pieces are coming together

3,.As they get off the plane lets look at the offense, starting with the OL The OL is a combination of experienced FA and young high draft picks highlighted by Zane Beadlek, Luke Jaeckle, Stephen Wisnuski. That is a very solid OL, and when it is healthy could match up with anyone in the league. And its the first obstacle we will need to overcome.

4. Their running attack has averaged 110 ypg, and that number today would be good enough to kill the clock and encourage an effective play action pass game. The run defense was horrible against the Steelers. It was horrible but better against the Bills. This week it is going to have to improve significantly . The Pats need to hold the Jag RB's to under 90 yds today if we are to see the kind of improvement that would be deemed acceptable. That means that Mayo should get 30-40 snaps to day , and it should be a big day for Alan Branch and Silva Siliga

3. Blake Bortles at his best is a young Ben Rothlessberger., A big strong armed QB who is hard to bring down in the pocket and can extend plays and gets the ball down field. And whe he does go down field he has a guy who can take it away from good coverage in Allen Robinson The rest of the healthy receivers are not extraordinary but decent.

4. Over all the offense is not like going against GB, but it's not like going against tthe Jets either, The more I look a the Jags the more I see the the 2001 Pats, only a year advanced. Good system, young talent, just starting to come around. AND Completely under the radar

Call me crazy but knowing what i know bout the Colts at THIS moment, I would MUCH rather play them this week that the Jags. The Jags have the better OL, DL, LBs and their TE's and WR's are just as good. I' Don't know much about the Jags' secondary, but they can't be any worse than the Colt defensive backfield.

5. This is what you used to call a "nice littlt team" getting better each weak, well coached, and hungry. THEY want to be the favorites to win the division next year, but they think they can sneak up on people and win it THIS year too., Mission accomplished with the Dolphins . Lets hope our team did more than pay lipservice to Bill's warnings this week, If they bring their A game and full focus and energy, they will have a very nice afternoon which will find a lot of starters sitting out the 4th quarter, ANYTHING less and it will be a dogfight that won't be decided before the last 2 minutes of the game.

BOTTOM LINE ; The Jags have too much talent, and our guys haven't grown far enough as a team yet, to play anything less but our best IF we hope to get the kind of result we want.

6, Interesting things to watch closely,

a. How will the Jags try to attakc the rookie 3" - Normally the Jags don't do a lot o blitzing

b. If you were were a bettor and the over/under on Pats running plays was 25,, where would your money go?

c. Will the Dion Lewis show continue full throttle. (ie 12 runs, 8 targets)

d. Will this be the game Fletcher finally gets some help over the top. Ideally, I'd like to see him right on Robinsom banging off the LOS and covering him from the trail position with a S over the top,. Then put Malcom on their next WR on an island That's how it was done last year,.

e. Will there be an redistribution of the targets this week. (understand I have Brady and Edelman on my Draft kins line up, so if they do well and you don't here from me for a while...,.,..,.,:D)

f. We want to see a much cleaner game with Penalties and procedure crap. Lets try and look like Pros this week,

OK this should be enough, You only have to kill a couple of hours now.

It will be closer than the spread that's for sure. I hope the Pats are focused for 4 quarters.

I don't listen to the mediots., it saves me fron hearing a couple of hours of useless bull sht.

I don't know about this Jags team as far as the full season goes, but they could make it interesting today.

In days of yore this use to be known as a trap game. I don't think that term is used much anymore.

As always, Ken, a great breakdown. However, few items:

The Jags D-line is likely without two of its best players in Andre Branch and Sen'Derrick Marks. Branch was ruled out and Marks is doubtful. Even if Cyprien plays, I think the Pats are likely to go with the passing game over the running game because the secondary is where the mismatches are..

The Jags Offense will be without Julius Thomas and Denard Robinson. The Jags could also be without Joekel and Linder, their starting LT and RG as both were questionable and neither practiced on Friday. The Jags O-line depth will be tested if that is the case.

This is what you used to call a "nice little team" getting better each week, well coached, and hungry.

I expect a game a little like the Raiders game last year. A lot of early jabbing punches from the Pats while the Jags throw as many haymakers as they can try and muster. The difference being last year the OL in pass pro was the area that was weaker while this year it's the DL in the run game.

I would render a guess that this is where we see how much maturity this years' squad has compared to last. Opening day: check. Big division rival game: check. Now it's the run of the mill, lower tier, non-division opponent. The emotional lift is not as easily generated. The focus just that infinitesimal bit short.

I think we learn a TON about the 2015-16 Patriots today.

Good measure for the d improving.

This will be a historically goo O <31 points would be a disappointment.

Funny of the questions going into the season, my only worries now are the #3-4 CB's first world problems. We got it better than any other fan base in the NFL.

Gimme a win + no serious injuries.

That's all I ever want in life, really...
Wrong!
Sure that is the goal in most seasons, but 2015 is an FU tour.

Disclaimer for the perceptually impaired: The above post was an attempt at humor.

Yeah, I get it. Some would be OK with injuries, as long as we win by 20 or 30.

Yep, you nailed it, that's totally what I'm saying. @@

In other news...Michael Irvin says the Patriots will run the table(regular season) citing all the BS the league put Brady thru and now they're going to pay. He mentioned this last week too I believe. But this was a "Perfect Pats" segment where they ask when they will lose.

Kurt Warner said week 7 rats because of rats' corners. Faulk said against the Texans because of all the ex-patriots on that team. And Mariucci said against the Donkeys.

Conclusion, Michael Irvin loves the Patriots(as we already knew)

Huh?
They can either get zero wins or 1 win this week just like every other.
This isn't the NCAA where people but subjective value in your wins.

When had this team lost a game to a "run of the mill, lower tier, non-division opponent". I honesty don't remember the last time.

I really can't either...but I can remember a ton where I was curious at half time if that game would be the first. o_O

Probably Arizona in 2012. Strange game though. AZ blocked a punt, TB was off, AH got hurt, Then AZ fumbled. Then Ghost missed a game winning FG.

Still they lost to a team that started well but ultimately went 5-11
