Neither of them had any choice in where they first played (Welker was claimed off waivers by the Dolphins after the Chargers released him). Heck, Welker might have been a Patriot . . . except they already had Troy Brown.

Troy Brown is a great example of my definition of a true Patriot. He's also, outside of Brady, my favorite player to ever wear the uniform.

He was picked up in a trade from another team and then was let go and went to another team. That defines the term rental.

I don't follow the logic. It wasn't like they had him for one year like Revis. He was here 6 seasons. How he was acquired IMO is irrelevant.

Here is the good news we had and have both pairings.

You asked me my definition of a true Patriot? I gave my reasons and now you want to bring years service into the equation?

Players that are home grown is a good beginning.

Moss and Welker were great pickups, but they were rental players.

This is a pissing contest I don't want to be a part of.

I'm challenging you on this because you have two definitions.

Must be home grown is one.

Can't be a rental is two. Your definition of a rental is a player that did not start and end his career here.

Is Deion Branch a Patriot or a rental?

What about Ty Law? Willie Mac? Vrable? Rodney?

By your definition those players are not Patriots.

Is a bookend required?

You are pushing logic and reason in an argument when they aren't acknowledged as relevant. This issue is entirely about unquestionable emotional appeal to this guy. You may as well be talking abortion, climate change, or broccoli vs. brussels sprouts.

But you already knew that...

To me, the guys I think of as "Patriot players" are the ones who identify that way. Moss has been overheard many times talking fondly of the Pats as his favorite place to play, even though it was a small slice of his career. So he can be "in" if he chooses it.

Welker reacted the same way as Amendola only he couldn't reach as much of the ball. That tells me that the pass was slightly more behind Welker than Amendola.
More like Amendila's arms are longer than W's

The player decides? That's a new one.

What if Mevis talked fondly of his time here? Would he be "in" also?

That is ridiculous.

As funny as that sounds that's it. Amendola definitely got more of the ball than Welker, and the difference was in inches.

Nope. This isn't objective. It is entirely subjective. There's no right answer for everyone. I gave mine, for Moss. If Revis said that, I would welcome it and him, only because the meltdown in the NYC area would be worth watching.

It just seems to me that as prolific as they were in terms of stats, when games got tight and there was a "must make" play - they didn't.

Gronk/Edelman (and we all should note it's a team sport and thank the OL and other positions as well) always seem to make those plays

I'm going with them
Not sure what you mean. Moss got open on a simple nod from Brady and caught what should have been the game-winning score in XLII. Welker also had a good game as well.

I'm ok with the who is/isn't a Patriot discussion. It's a fan board.

For example I don't think guys like Revis are.

I'm just trying to take the emotion out of it.

These guys would all be JAGs without Brady. Products of the system.

I'm going to assume this is sarcasm. Welker led the LOLphins in receptions in 2006 and had more all-purpose yards in his first three seasons than anyone not named Gale Sayers. There's a reason many of us went giddy when the Pats traded for Moss. And GRONK is GRONK.

Who would you take in a fight?

Superman or Mighty Mouse? :D

The answer is Gronk/Edelman but Moss is the man.
He's the single greatest Patriot free agent signing of all time, and it shouldn't even have been necessary because we should have never have passed on him in the draft.

There is no former Patriot that defends the Patriot shield better and more decisively than Randy Moss.
He belongs in the Patriots hall of fame for the 2007 season alone.

it's tough to compare, but i would say the utter physical dominance of Gronk gives them the edge.
