Mike Florio: Goodell Underling(s) Were Out to Get the Patriots

Yeah. These kinds of articles are of course satisfying for us to read, and it's natural to feel encouraged. But the only way this kind of stuff will make a difference is if there is a sustained chorus saying the same thing. It's got to be consistent, and become a consensus. Have to reach a tipping point. Not there yet, nor very close.

It's not impossible, though.
I'm seeing it pop up in a few different places. I think it might be gaining ground. The thing is, if you aren't utterly blinded by hate to BB/the Pats, you /have/ to be at least quietly thinking 'WTF' about this stuff.

Levy is linked to the NYJ/NFL Crime Family alright. A horrible record of officiating...terrible SB. Is negligent in the preparation and measurement of footballs and is PROMOTED to supervisor of NFL Officials.

He may not be a button man but hes on the take. He knows something and they shut him up.
I think he was promoted to get him off the field. Even the NFL didn't try to hide that.

I think the next few weeks are going to answer alot of questions regarding the concerns brought up in this thread. The whole science thing about if the balls were deflated has been answered many times over. Goodell has to realize he has no foot to stand on regarding this. I am interested to see if he still tries to hold Bradys feet to the fire regarding his so called "non-cooperation". If/when this goes to federal court, I think Brady has a very strong argument and has a strong case to turn it around and throw this at the feet of the NFL and put them on the defensive. Maybe this was already brought up in the appeal, but if anyone asks Brady why he didnt turn over his phone, he was a very simple answer. THE NFL COULD NOT BE TRUSTED. The NFl allowed the bogus psi findings to sit out in the media for months and did nothing to refute the bogus claims. All the while they preached about the integrity of the game. If I was Tom I would simply say the NFL could not be trusted and the only was I could protect any further lies and bogus claims to come out was to not turn over my phone. And if the NFL wont back down, simply ask them why they never denied the false PSI rating when they knew it was a lie and maybe even go as far as to ask the judge to bring in Mortenson and get him under oath to find out who he got the leak from. I cant speak for the NFL, but that should scare the crap out of them.
Supposedly, heard today, the league is saying if Brady doesn't agree to no law suit, then there's no reduction.

Wonderful corporate culture they have there to incentify and motivate employees. Screw up doing your job but get promoted anyway.

"Congratulations on a sub-standard performance review. You are now a manager and get a raise.". :p

I think I saw that in a Dilbert cartoon once...

Sounds like a salesman saying give me a blank signed check and I will fill it out tomorrow for the best price I can give you.

Pats-Jets, October 16th, was a 27-25 win for the Patriots. Head ref was Bill Leavy, who's obviously worked in the NFL forever. He's from California, no connection to NY/the Jets/Goodell in any way.

There's nothing there, imo...the reason they were inflated like a balloon is because the refs generally don't care, maybe we squeezed a few of them and they felt low so he gave each of them a couple pumps. Gametime temp was 64 with 93% humidity, I think that heavy air would have impacted the psi in a positive (i.e. high/inflated) manner but I could be wrong.

Either way, that 16 psi Jets game isn't any kind of grand conspiracy imo.

Counterpoint: this was an "AWAY" game. Therefore, the ball boy bringing the Pats balls TO THE (I think, but not 100% sure) REFs AND THEN TO THE FIELD was NOT a PATRIOTS employee (Pats guy was at home in NH) ; but rather a JESTER EMPLOYEE!

So there were opportunities for the opposing team (with a grudge) to influence the balls.

Further, the refs, per the descriptions of the process, IN THE MOST DETAIL-ORIENTED CREWS just measure the balls-and if ok - let them be. They only add or remove air, if the pressure is off.

and for the lesser crews, who knows maybe they only add air to the low ones and let the rest go.

And for the Leavy type crews.... I bet you they didn't even have a gauge, 'squeeze-squeeze, ok that feels hard' (all the independent bs-gate tests proved folks can't tell the difference by squeeze tests)

So if jesters had a chance to add air, before or after testing, would you lay odds they didn't take a chance to mess with TB???

Supposedly, heard today, the league is saying if Brady doesn't agree to no law suit, then there's no reduction.
Isn't TB's goal to get the suspension reversed and if not, then a law suit? Reduction isn't an option, no?

The NFL is just doing their job

they deserve more respect

they work very hard to deliver such an entertaining product to us

You do have to wonder if Goody exonerates TB12 BUT gives him a game for not turning over his phone WWTB12D?

As much as I don't want him to miss any games, he faces a decision.

Would he really take the NFL to court over a 1 game suspension?

With that said, I don't think the NFL knocks this down at all.

Going the distance.

I really doubt that, but if it was the case, he could easily counter with "exonerate me and there won't be a lawsuit".

Thanks, you said what I was trying to say.

Jake, I'm not aware of the commissioner being asked this exact question, but when some of those who work for the league have been asked, there has been no detailed explanation. My take is that the initial report of 11 of 12 balls each being 2 PSI under was later reworded, but by the time that happened, the initial information had already caught fire and it was too late to pull back. I don't think the commissioner himself was out to get the Patriots, but some of the people who work for him might have been.

And when I say "out to get the Patriots", I don't necessarily think they set up a sting, per se. But I do believe once the issue came up at halftime, they aggressively pursued it with a "gotcha" type mentality (and probably without any knowledge of the science).

Dan (New York City)

Will Mike Kensil's role in defategate be explored by the league? If he is found to have acted improperly will be punished somehow? Or has he already gotten away with it? I fear the team will continue to be unfairly targeted as long as he remains in power in the NFL.

No, I don't think so Dan. The reason I say that is that there was a 243-page Wells report in which that was supposed to be probed ... and all that was in the report was one paragraph clearing anyone in the league of any claims of bias. How the Wells report came to that conclusion is not known. I guess we're just supposed to accept it. I personally don't, and it's one reason why the Wells report -- which failed to hold the NFL accountable for any of its failings on the handling of the issue (and there were several) -- is viewed as shaky, incomplete and one-sided in certain areas from my viewpoint.

I bet its a moot point because my money is on Goodell not changing the punishment at all.

Then the so called "deflator" did a really bad job at tampering with the balls after the refs gave them to him considering they were 2 PSI OVER the limit during the game...
Well he called himself the deflator during a weight loss competition the May before so this actually proves that he did in in January because at some point, all the air let out has to go somewhere and it made its way into the balls in the Jets game. See how simple it all is ;) It involves some time space calculations but Exponent has that covered.

Source on that?

Here you go. The ultimate logic here. The science is shaky (ie garbage-which means nothing unnatural happened to the balls), yet by the NFLs "common sense" lol, the text messages indicate something was done. Imagine that. Science proves nothing happened. Yet the text messages are being used to prove a crime that the science says didn't happen. How come that isn't mentioned and the NFL made a laughingstock?
