Is this the worst FA period for the Pats in the last 10 Years?

Well this escalated quickly LMAO

i guess the theory around here is if a bunch of crazies can convince a group of normal people with a set of beliefs, the normal people might start thinking theyre crazy
Now you just being an ass cause your feelings we're hurt.

Feelings hurt? This guy embarrassed himself I feel bad for his feelings

We never win the early FA signing period ... we're too busy building to go to the playoffs and the top.

come to think of it the hysterical rock dwellers here ranted about our draft also ... how bad it was.

Add me to the many kid yelling, "Come back, Shane .. I mean Revis." However I thought it over. We knew he was a mercenary when we got him. He was a hired gun. He killed Jack Palance ... I mean won a Super Bowl. Then rode off into the sun set ... I mean free agency.

Yeah, it happened as we knew it would. The horror, the horror. (Oops, wrong metaphor. :) )

To answer the OP's question, how about the 2005-06 off season?

Among those that departed were starters Willie McGinest, Adam Vinatieri, Deion Branch, David Givens, Christian Fauria and Tom Ashworth, plus several backup/role players.

Football won't start until September, that's a lot time for us to put together a competitive roster. We're not playing anyone this Sunday. Oh and i forgot we're the current SuperBowl champion so go party for the next 5 months.

How is the roster at the moment not competitive?

Is it me, or has these boards become like the old espn message boards?

I just have to say it, even though some already have: I DON'T CARE, I CAN'T STAND IT

Cousins,
We all agree this is a great Football club and Coach. I have seen the forum fights back and forth about whether the Pats are better today than when the last second of the Super Bowl happened. In all honesty they are not. The obvious hole being CB.

Most of us would have been happy during this FA period if Revis was our main signing. The $39mm he got from the Jets was only a million a year more (guaranteed) than we gave him last year and with all of the Pats resources they could not pull the trigger? They had a year to figure a way to sign Revis. There is no excuse or spin for losing him to all you Kool Aid drinkers. Epic fail.

The epic fail is you not understanding the cap.. Per usual. Did you ever stop to think that Revis never wanted to stay and THAT is the reason they couldn't get a deal done?

Browner was good not great but we could have kept his hard ass presence. Not crying.

We overpayed and signed a FS who is "O.K" but not an Ed Reed. He is the second highest paid FS in the league...Crazy that we could not think Revis was worth more. Most on this forum says Revis.
Umm.. McCourty is costing the Pats how much against the Cap?? Compared to Revis costing them $5M and the Jets $14M..

McCourty may have the 2nd highest APY, but are you sure that he is the 2nd highest paid in Actual salary

Some one did this but I will again.
QB=Great
RB=O.K. we lost one but not that big a deal (missed on Bush, missed on Spiller)
TE=We pick up a decent back up. Nothing to see here but we have good TEs.
WR=We are still trying to figure out if Dobson is a bust so we are searching WRs (missed on Harvin, Missed on Johnson).

Harvin? You think we missed on Harvin?? Harvin is a locker-room issue, runs horrible routes, and has issues with ball control.. Only people who wanted Harvin were those who haven't actually paid attending to how the guy plays..

Johnson? Ok.. With him and Cecil Shorts signed, I guess you could say they missed out. But, honestly, even Stevie Johnson isn't that big of a miss. The Pats have Edelman, Amendola, and LaFell as their top 3 receivers.. Johnson would have been fighting for the #3 position. Clearly something he didn't want to do..

OL= Connolly can be replaced with a guy a lot younger and can still do multi positions in Stefan Wesniewski and he still sits or even Blaylock would be an upgrade) A head scratcher.

DL=We lose Wilfork. O.K. I might get the age thing. Branch resign was a must do.In the mean time (missed on this kid Walker who was a backup anyway, missed on Knighton at stupid cheap money, missed on Fairley even for more stupid cheap money, Starks? ) Rubin sits. Is he not a value and young? Now Bennett wants out of Seattle. I would throw a first rounder for him. He wants to up his $7mm a year salary. I think he is worth more. Would Pete let us have him? Doesn't matter. BB is hunkering down.

Knighton is over-weight and that is why he signed a 1 year "PROVE IT" deal. Rubin isn't young, but he's not old either. He's 28..

Not sure where you get the BS that BB is hunkering down.. But then, you talk out your arse regularly..

Good one in Sheard signing

LB=Bad one in letting Ayers for for $3mm per year. Good player!

We lost Cassilas a great ST player and could not get the Gachkar kid to even sign with us to replace him.

The blind squirrel found a nut and then lost it.. Casillas was a good special teamer for the Pats. The Pats turned around and signed Jonathan Freeny to replace him or Ayers.

CB= I think we have beat this to death. Both starting Niner CBS who were young and had good production were fairly cheap and nyet on them (missed those two and Tramon Williams) All three of those better than we have. The had their chance at 3 young starting CBs. We passed.

S=Same but we are paying more and through the nose.

We have lost five great/good players on the Defense
We have lost SB hero Vareen and Connolly (meh) on the offense.

The Pats have some good talent at CB in Dennard, Butler, Arrington, Ryan. Yes, Arrington is limited to the Star.. Yes Ryan should be limited to who he goes against (preferably a 3rd/4th WR). But Butler just makes plays.. Dennard didn't have the benefit of the off-season program and he was nursing an injury most of the year before going on the DL.

You whine about paying through the nose for McCourty, but ignore the fact that Cox got $5M APY and Culliver got $8M APY. OH, something you seemed to have missed.. While the 49ers pass defense rated well in terms of YPG, they were tied for 6th worst with 29 TDs allowed.

We know of eight players that have spurned us (that we know of) to be signed by other Teams. Either we are not stepping up to the plate financially or there is some master plan. I think the former...but we have the greatest CAP plan in the NFL!!! Woop!

Really? 8 players that spurned the Pats? How do you know the Pats made offers to these people? OH.. that's right.. you don't. It's just a SWAG on your part.. No actual proof.. a

There is only 17% chance that our Draft picks will be successful and on the Pats roster via the Draft in three years. Some of those only JAGs. I know we have some build-from-the-Drafters but we needs some players that can play now as well.

Another stat pulled out of your rear end..

I know we are never full all-in in the FA season, but I have never seen us so non aggressive even on the left overs. I have never see so many players spurn a previous SB champ Team. We have gotten out asses kicked on 8 that we know of (not including some camp filler signings)

What is going on Gentlemen? Thoughts? Are we so hypnotized by BB that we think we have a Team as good as last year? Are the SB winner F.O. a little arrogant in their dealings? Are we so accustomed to success that we should not have the audacity to ***** a little when the Pats are actually missing?

Is not the Mantra "Do Your Job" part of BBs best used lines (as in GM moves?). Is "Whats Best for the Team" happening right now? You tell me.

Love BB as the best coach ever but what is going on?

My thoughts is that despite your years of trolling this board, you still haven't figured out much about how the off-season works.. That you jump to all these asinine conclusions and really don't know what youa re talking about.

You can "*****" all you want. The least you could do, though, is have some facts to back you up..

Well, in your defense, Benjamin Willard was also a hired assassin.

Among those that departed were starters Willie McGinest, Adam Vinatieri, Deion Branch, David Givens, Christian Fauria and Tom Ashworth, plus several backup/role players. The only notable addition was Rodney Harrison, who at the time was considered to be an over the hill, injury prone player that drew too many flags due to his reputation for playing through the whistle.

Harrison was a 2003 addition, not 2006.

Hmmmm...Last I checked free agency wasn't over yet. The loss of Revis was a bummer, but obviously not totally unexpected and everyone else we lost seems to have been a concious choice. We've also added a few pieces. I am intrigued to find out whether Gronk/Chandler can equal or come close to Gronk/Hernandez and whether they other guys we've signed can make up for the ones we've lost. It's mostly good, IMO.

Please. St. Paddy.

Or st. Patrick.

That doesn't add up, JMT. Rodney won in 2004.

However, that was a real over the hill gang. this team has already reinforced with a ton of young potential all pros. I like there surgical moves for unknown guys with upside. Spending a ton of money for household names is stupid, unless it's a bargain contract for a Revis or Moss.

Yeah, this is indeed the worst offseason in the last 10 years!...Giselle is retiring.
Yeah, she's moving in with me. I GOT BINGO!!

If my choices are believing that TPTB are actually thinking about this stuff versus just twiddling their thumbs, I think I'll put my faith in the folks that have kept this team in playoff contention since the turn of the century.

My guess is their response would be that they should have picked up the option and handcuffed the team for one season with a $25m cap hit and a possible hold out from Revis.

I couldn't imagine any reason why Revis would've held out with a 20m dollar one year contract, which would have paid him much more than anyone else, while also allowing him to hit free agency next spring---but yes, most of us agree that it was just too much to dedicate to one player.
