Sign the Beast XI: WR Andre Johnson wants to play with a great QB...Hey, Andre, I know a guy...

Is he known as someone who can pick up a blitz? Because that seems to be a prime factor in playing 3dRB for the Pats.

He's not good in pass protection. But we can be sure that N.E. would make him work the hell out of it.

I already asked in mayoclinics Team Building thread over in the draft forum but can Harvin block anywhere close to what Vereen is able to ? I don't know him enough, but independent of his price this would be the main question for me.
No. He is a WR.

No. He is a WR.

Amendola also is a WR but all things considered he is an amazing blocker. Similarly LaFell is also a quite competent blocker.

I have not much clue about Harvin. Mostly I know him from the usual highlight reel plays.

Of all the WR guys on the market, Harvin is the one I find most compelling. I know a lot of people here hate the idea, but in terms of raw talent, he's head and shoulders above what's out there (with apologies to AJ, but age is age).

I don't tend to worry about "head cases" in a BB/TB locker room. No one else out there seems like an upgrade over Amendola to me, but like you said, Harvin wouldn't even necessarily be a DA replacement.

He seems like the most interesting signing to be had.

If he could get to be at least competent in pass protection then I'd be intrigued adding him. He would be another tool for McD to create mismatches.

Don't think there is enough money for him if we keep Amendola. If you think about adding Harvin as a replacement for Vereen + Amendola his price might actually not seem that high anymore.

OK. Thought the question was around PH as blocking RB.

Within the context of your question, I do not know what kind of downfield blocker he is.

I meant both actually. It was just poor wording from me, I should have used "pass protection" as well in there.

He scares me, luuked. Lot of talent but a lot of fragility and headaches come with him.

No Thanks. I would rather take DGB with the 32nd pick as he will be the best Wr in the draft and he is huge.

If I were bringing in Percy Harvin, it would be to play the Vereen Role, so I wouldn't be replacing Amendola with him. I can see working him in for some WR plays, but the 3dRB would be the main thing.

I think he can come out of the backfield much like what Hernandez did for us or what Cobb does for GB. But I would be hesitant to make him a 3rd down back in the traditional sense where he will also have to protect Brady.

Eddie Royal is out there and has solid exp. in the return game as well, and he doesn't have the red flags that Harvin has.

I'd rather keep Amendola if money is not an issue. He already knows the system, chemistry with Brady and played well down the stretch. Although if we do cut Amendola, Royal would be a solid addition.

That's my impression as well. That being said, I only followed him through headlines and so on. In the end I fully trust BB. If we end up with him, then I assume that it will work out.

That would be the role I would have in mind for him. However, if he would also be versatile enough to be used as traditional 3rd down back then I could see the value. From my limited knowledge I would guess it comes down to his pass protection skills.

I know Harvin has carried the ball a lot but are people seeing him as pot'l replacement for Vereen?

I'm just not seeing it.

He wasn't asked to do that in Seattle from what I recall and definitely not in college. Not saying he can't do it, but it's something that I haven't seen from him.

That being said, if there ever was a skillset that would flourish in this offense, it's Percy's. All the short passes we run, the schemes to get the ball in space to our receivers, Percy would be scary as hell for defenses.

As far as a 3rd down back, I've seen Helu's name pop up. Living in DC, I've seen quite a few Redskins game and Helu is extremely underrated.

Vereen had only 96 carries last year, and that was his career high. I certainly understand people's hesitation about where to pay Harvin. He's not really a pure WR, and he's not a pure RB. He's like Hernandez, in the sense of legitimately being a hybrid guy.

That makes a lot of sense to me. Stands to reason why so many teams are willing to take a chance on him. In the right offense, he certainly is capable of doing many different things well.

I'm not sure I would want Harvin's issues around our locker room, but I think he could succeed as a WR in a system where he is the 3rd or 4th option.

He brings a truly dynamic skill set and wouldn't be asked to be on the field every down, every other team he played for he was basically slotted as the number 1 guy, a role he had no chance of filling. He could be a game changer in a limited capacity and would more than likely upgrade the KR game.

And as stated, he's shown he can make plays out of the backfield or using his pure athleticism on sweeps, JE seem to always gain 10-20 yards on them but I can only recall one or 2 plays like that where he or Amendola weren't flattened at the end of it (Amendola was even knocked out during the Saints game in 2013 on a similar play).
