One coverage I have noticed recently is how the Patriots line up vs Empty or on third and longs the Pats tend to bring in Duron Harmon and Tavon Wilson, while moving McCourty down. This allows the Pats to double two WRs while leaving Revis and Devin McCourty in favorable matchups. I first saw this was vs The Jets on third down, The Jets had 3 WRs (Harvin, Kerley and Decker), 1 TE(Jeff Cumberland) and one RB(Powell) or 11 Personnel. The Pats put Revis on Harvin, McCourty on Cumberland and Collins on Powell. They doubled Kerley with Ryan and Tavon Wilson. They matched Browner on Decker and Shaded Harmon over to Decker. This is shown below.
Fast Forward to the divisional game on the Flacco INT. The Patriots played 7 DBs to combat play vs the Ravens 5 WRs. The Pats played Revis on Steve Smith, McCourty on Kamar Aiken and Arrington on Marlon Brown. The Pats doubled Owen Daniels with Pat Chung and Tavon Wilson. They put Logan Ryan on Torrey Smith and shaded Harmon over Smith. The Ravens sent Torrey Smith deep and Logan Ryan played a trail position that gave Flacco the impression that Smith woild be open, But Flacco didnt see Harmon, which lead to the INT.
