Jamie Collins is NFL's best LB in coverage, according to STATS

Don't know how they come up with that figure, but I like him in coverage. He takes a lot of heat for not getting off blocks and not making plays in the run game but I like the kid.
Most NFL teams don't commit to the running game these days even when running successfully. We all know Denver isn't gonna try to run at Jamie Collins to go to the super bowl. They're going to throw the ball and we will have to defend it.

Collins is the best pick from the last 2 or 3 drafts.

Edit -> I forgot Chandler Jones

Thats cool. But who puts together this data?

And possibly Dont'a Hightower as well.

We all know that Collins has speed, so it's great to see that he's getting burned the least number of times for LBs measured upon their statistics.

That said, he is still struggling with his tackling, and often getting run over--so that's a major challenge that he needs to improve upon. He seems to have improved in the past game or two, but the Chiefs made it a point to run directly at him, exposing his obvious weakness.

I'll take that, you can coach a player how to tackle and improve the weakness but you can't coach a player to run faster than his top speed. Spikes is the classic example.

Collins' tackling isn't great but hopefully will get better and make him an all round top player.

Agreed on the tackling. He seems to get moved around a bit.

I keep envisioning him as a potential Roman Phifer-type. Lets hope his career has a similar arch.

Since going to the SB in 2011, the defense has added, among others, Hightower, Jones, Collins, Revis, Browner.
The only remaining defensive starters from that game are Wilfork, Mayo, and Nink and McCourty at different positions and sort of Chung.

But surely that can't be right. Iapatsfan reliably informed me that he's the worst LB in football.

Nah! He thinks he is pretty good other than he is incredible slow, can't cover, can't stop the run, can't rush the passer, and can't do anything right.

Can anyone explain to be how burn percentage is formulated and how heavily clean drops are weighed in the formula? Thanks in advance.

If I am reading this (http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/36278/no-burn-zone-in-oakland) correctly and my calculation is not wrong, burn percentage is just straight up catches allowed divided by targets (completions/targets). STATS. inc is the company that came up with this "advanced" statistic. So yeah drops by receivers are not factored into the calculation. I know plenty of fans with decent eye vision would like to say Jamie got lucky on many pass coverages this season (especially the one that Buffalo TE straight up dropped the TD in the endzone), but he is a decent young linebacker and I just hope he gets better as the season progresses.

Thanks. I did some quick research on Google and only found a detailed article on the 2009 Jets secondary. So the original formula would weigh straight up drops heavily but the advanced formula does not? I don't have an agenda here, but Collins has gotten fortunate in a couple of games this year that he would have been burned on had his man caught the football. The Chiefs game (debacle) is another example. That said, he is, by far, the best coverage LB we have. I just wish he would get better at taking on blockers at the point of attack and shedding those blocks.

Surprising that imnotapatsfan hasn't posted in here. According to him he is worse than a JAG and only belongs on ST

Ya but I'm sure other LBs have benefitted from drops too. So it's all relative.
