Pats vs Bengals

I really want to see Revis 1 on 1 with Green. Let the man do what we've all seen him do many times before. Just line him up and but Green on Revis Island.

Yeah, it shouldn't be extremely difficult to rattle Dalton. Step one is covering Green in an effective fashion. Step two is applying some pressure.

Obviously, stopping the run will go a long way as well.

Let's just hope they don't outthink themselves with these complicated schemes and go back to keeping it more simplified.

The bold part seems to be very difficult for the Pats, however. We've been saying this for a few years now, and they only seem to be able to get to the QB and pressure him if the Oline they are playing against is extremely below average.

Fleming missed practice the entire week due to injury. So who goes into the RG position? Cannon? Devey? Wendell?

what about kline?? didnt' he play a little guard last season? i don't remember if he did, or, if he did a good job or not.
no devey, no cannon. cannon for being so big gets pushed around so easily.

Wendell was the only person to play RG other than Fleming last week. It was only for one series. He then moved to LG for two series. Cannon only played T last game.

So my guess is Wendell.

For all the talk about their dominance to date, I don't expect Cincy's D to be as tough as last year. Atkins is coming off an ACL tear and probably isn't as explosive on the inside. Michael Johnson is gone, too, although as I recall, he wasn't a major factor in last year's game.

Here's my wish list.

Be physical, be dominating early, take roughing penalties if need be. Make the opposing teams leave here saying that was awful.

I wont feel bad if we lose but the defense just absolutely punsihes the offense of Cincinnati.

We have all the talent to do that. If the coaching plan is good. We win.

You can rattle Dalton pretty easily.

How do you rattle a QB when nobody in your front 7 requires a double team? Sit back ---> Picked apart...Blitz ---> killed by TE. The problem with our defense is every member of our front 7 can be single blocked fairly easily.

Cinci doubles Gronkowski and Edelman, mans up anybody else and gets pressure with four...Game over by 2 touchdowns at least. I think the defense will be better (except for Collins - he'll be a liability as usual), but I'm guessing theyll be worn out by the fourth quarter.
I thought the thread was to discuss what the pats should do vs cincy. Not like your millionth post about how the pats suck and will be blown out and are a below 500 team etc etc...

From today's Grantland article by Bill Barnwell:

I don’t think Brady will be able to throw on Cincinnati, which is ranked first in pass defense DVOA. That 32nd-ranked run defense, though? A good defensive performance and a run-focused game plan could carry the day for the Patriots.

If they repeat last week's game plan of pass-pass-pass vs a weak run defense, Pats nation will be looking for Josh McD to resign (with just reason this time).

Too true. I hope to see plenty of Ridley on Sunday and the rest of the year.

I think it is time that BB stops holding back and unleashes more exotic looks plus aggressive play. He definitely didnt tip his hand yet when it comes to our defense.

Of course I hope that the OL will take a step forward and give Brady more time.

Thats the recipe..

I hope they play less exotically and more aggressively... on both sides of the ball.

This is a big game for both teams. If history holds to form, this is where Marvin Lewis and Andy Dalton fall apart.

Easley was added to the injury report today with a knee injury. He's questionable. Good for the Pats is Vontaze Burfict is doubtful along with Marvin Jones and Kevin Zeitler.

Pats need to execute some confidence building plays. Believe in the plays they are running and maybe that will snow ball. Right nwo they have nothing to build on and their confidence is shot.

Its sounds good on paper but people ignore the matchup issues. Bengals can stop the run with 8 in the box and ask the pats to throw the ball to win. Now just because they are 32nd ran run defense doesnt mean pats can run it on every play or will be able to run on it.
Without passing threat its easy to shut down the run. That 32nd rank is meaningless.

Marvin Lewis and winning a big game mixes about as well as **** and strawberry shortcake.
