OK, my spidy senses tell me things are going pretty badly this year, and if we don't improve, beating anyone outside our divisional rivals is going to be very difficult.

This year though i expected better. We had numerous injuries last year, yet were able to get to the Conference game. This year we have Mayo, Vince, Vollmer, Gronk (too an extent) all back yet we look like a bunch of cretins.

What has changed from last year? Because all in all, we should be better?

Coaches, the coaches aren't putting players in position to succeed. That's all it is.

WR position has gotten worse. So has the offensive line. So has the defensive line. Gronk is not his old self. Brady is not playing well. Game plans and execution have been crap.

on offense? game plan.......they're avoiding what actually worked last year (hurry up)
on defense? nothing, apparently

Other than gronk being back our WRs are the same. We also added a TE.Our Oline has taken a step back and still this is much worse than what we had last yr. I put a lot of this on coaching. They are trying too many things and outsmarting themselves.
Defensively, its been a bigger disappointment. No excuses.

Last year:
A half dozen major injuries

This year:
All last year's injured players are back
Our youth is all 1 year older and should all be better
Tom Brady is year older and should be slightly worse
We drafted a supposed game changing DT
We upgraded at CB from Talib to Revis
We degraded at OLine coach -- but the personnel is basically the same if not slightly better than last year with Vollmer back being a wash with Mankins loss and a supposed upgrade at center
We had what Belichick thought was an upgrade trading Mankins for Wright

So there should've been a ton of improvements and two negatives (oline coach and brady/wilfork aging).
On paper, this team should be dominant; so I've got to say its a combination of coaching not living up to its standards and brady declining more than expected.

The main difference is that the quarterback is shellshocked and therefore the entire offense is out of sync. On defense, they apparently can't stop the run without siliga. Carried over from last year, our LBS and SS really struggle in coverage.

BB didn't do a very good job off season with player and coach selection.

So Brady is shellshocked but the game plan is to spread it out and throw the ball in the loudest stadium in the league with two rookies starting their first game? It doesn't make any sense. Even more so because of the deactivation of Thompkins AND Dobson. Line up against that bad rush defense and go after them with Ridley! Get the defensive lineman to play a bit tentative in rushing Brady so he has more time and gets more comfortable. It just didn't make sense last night.
