Miami radio airing Welker clips as evidence of concussion damage

Drunk drivers potentially injure and kill others. The point is that Welker has been asked multiple times in interviews if he's concerned about the consequences of continuing to play after multiple concussions. Every single time he replied that he is aware of the risks but intends to keep playing until he can't perform anymore. He has taken full responsibility for whatever comes from this. Good (or bad) for him.

I didn't say otherwise. I still hope his brain doesn't turn to mush. He's willing to take risks. Great. If he knew that his brain would 100% be mush instead of there just being a chance he may sing a different song.

but even if he'd play with the idea and be OK with brain damage I'll still hope he doesn't get it. Doesn't mean I'm trying to save him.

I will be disappointed if the Seahawks don't brutalise the Broncos skill position players. They're bloody good at it.

The Pats used to be like that.

While the defense is better than its been in years, NE needs an LB or DB who is an enforcer.

seems like just two years ago he was a lot less of a mumblemouth

He has always sounded like a doofus to me, but I love the way he plays. If Amendola is supposed to be his replacement, Bill the genius has made a terrible mistake, at least thus far. I assume that is why BB is so nasty about Welker. He (BB) is acting like a jilted lover.

I very rarely disagree w/ you PBPF, but the Welker that I've known for awhile has always talked like he had a bunch of marbles in his mouth.

His speech has been slow and slurred for quite some time, at least in my opinion.

I agree. I didn't want the Patriots to resign him last year and I wanted him to retire. I posted that then. I honestly think it is too late now and it is just a matter now of its happening at 40 or 50. The hits I have seen him take and get up from are not possible without damage. Even if his skull was 2 inches thick, it is the sudden stops that cause the brain (pudding) to hit the inside of the skull. No one has any more tolerance to it than anyone else. Because he is smaller, he takes even more of the beating when it comes to which colliding body will change direction more and cause the pudding to slosh.

I'd add in the possibility of DE/DT as well.

All 3 lines of defense could use an "enforcer" like you describe.

It would also benefit the younger players who some feel are carrying the enforcer title at the moment (but aren't) like Chandler Jones, Dont'a Hightower, etc. Those are 2 examples of good quality youth, but they're not there yet; especially not at the position that you are speaking of.

Yeah, one can almost understand and respect those who get in, make their money, and quickly get out--just the same; at least on some level anyway. It's not what us fans like to see as a gladiator type player contributing to the team setting, but I can't say that I would highly consider it myself.

Come out of college, make some damn good money for your age, see that second higher paying contract--and bolt with the guaranteed money ;) I don't advocate that mindset for other professions of course, but when we're talking about your brains becoming scrambled eggs, it makes one think...

Link?

Anyone?

I want to hear this?

If I were Wes, I'd hang it up. Actually, if I were Wes, I'd have hung it up a while ago. This will end badly, I'm afraid. I hope I'm wrong.

old thread resurrected by today's news. Not to beat dead horse (he said as he got out the riding crop :) ) but Peyton does seem to have concussed receivers in his wake.

Although I would like to think I would retire in Welker's position, it is his life and he can do what he wants. He knows the risks. He knows he could have potential long term damage and possibly end up like Seau. He knows that he is far more suseptable to concussions now too.

I doubt he retires now. I just hope the best for him, but he is really playing Russian Roulette with his future.

he probably wants a superbowl ring and i can't say that i blame him. seeings as he's on the donkeys, i hope it doesn't happen. i wish he had a ring already (with us) and he could retire in peace.

Or, he could have a couple more concussions this season, make it to the Super Bowl and lose again. THEN retire, and be even worse off because he continued to play. The prudent thing would be to quit now. But I wonder if he feels pressure from Forehead to keep going.

I'm just guessing of course, but we all know that Welker's a gutsy, stubborn kind of guy who probably isn't going to walk away.

A very solid argument can be made that he should, but I'm guessing that it's going to take one more good concussion at the very least to get him to even consider it.

If he isn't, why should you be?

Yeah if guy with possibly decreased faculties due to repeated brain trauma feels like he's ok then that's good enough for me!

I still love Wes. I don't want another Junior Seau or Corwin Brown.

he's already done...he's BEEN done since his last one.

the best thing he can do now is have a sex change and try to get into movies using the screen name, Hedda Lettuce.
