However, if these guaranteed, there is $6M of salary and bonus to be saved, $6M of cap savings to be used elsewhere.
I would suspect that DEN would need to have some discussion with Welker in order to avoid an appeal to the Commissioner.
Given this mess, I don't think that Welker will be cut. Welker can be valuable to Manning for 2014.
Is there a precedent for that? I have no idea, but it would definitely be interesting to hear from someone who knows more about it than I do. It seems to me that every NFL player is hurt over the course of a season, so guaranteeing against injury is only really a significant designation if it's applied to injuries that keep players off the field going forward. Since Welker doesn't fit the bill there, I would think that the $6M wouldn't be guaranteed.
It's Denver.....who really gives a F. We all saw what the greatest "O" did on FEB 2.:singing:
Yes, we see what can happen when you pay your QB $19M less a year than DEN does. That money bought a lot of defense for Seattle, much of it in last year's free agent market.
Sorry, maybe it's late where you live. Since the thread topic is about Edelman going to Denver, my comment is in regards to "DENVER'S" "O" not Seattle, "O".
The reason that DENVER's offense did not succeed was not because it was not one of the best offenses of all time. Edelman could be a part of that offense in 2014, or not.
DENVER's offense will be spending money on free agents, PROBABLY jsut keeping its own.
The point was that DEN lost because SEA was able to spend so much on defense.
Don't worry, Bill has a plan
It looked more to me as if Denver lost because
a.) They played a bad game
b.) Their backup LT didn't get it done
c.) Their 3rd string center didn't get it done
d.) D. Thomas became shy of contact after separating his shoulder
e.) Manning choked
f.) Manning's arm wasn't strong enough to throw downfield against that secondary
g.) Denver's pass rush was partly in Baltimore and partly on IR
h.) Seattle played a hell of a game
You are free to believe that DEN would still have lost if Seattle had $20M less of defense.
After all DEN would have lost to anyone. They are DEN; they always lose.
Erika Leigh is reporting that Edelman was spotted at the Denver airport with John Abraham. I guess it's pretty serious.
