NFL Rumors: Denver Broncos may pursue signing Julian Edelman

Guess who they would cut if they signed Edelman?

The Broncos could cut Welker/sign Edelman and probably have a net gain in cap space for 2014.

They are free to do so, but with Miller, Thomas, Thomas as 2015 FAs, that may not be a smart idea.

I know we said this last year about Welker, but I feel keeping Edelman (if the Broncos do pursue him) should be as much about keeping him from DEN then it is keeping him here.

There's no rumor there, just someone saying it could happen. 32 teams could pursue him, that doesn't make it a rumor.

Well, Florio posted the same hypothesis on PFT - I'm not sure if that means its a rumor since Florio just said it would make sense. I don't think he cited any actual NFL source.

The general logic is that Welker has a big cap hit coming and is older, concussion prone etc.

Edelman meanwhile is younger and seems more resilient, and is certainly a productive hard worker. He'd fit in well with Manning's short passing game too.

But I don't think Edelman will save them too much money on the cap as some think he may get enough interest to drive his price up too.

We'll see what happens - there's always some tough cap/salary decisions to be made and not every productive/popular free agent can return.

It won't matter what receiver the Broncos bring in to try and improve their passing game. Manning's noodle arm is going to be a huge problem for the Broncos. His 2-4 yard completions for most of the SB was pathetic. All Seattle had to do was stop yards after the catch, which they did easily, to stop that offense.

Their receiving corps was fine....it's their QB that needs fixing.

This would be a great move by Denver. As we saw in the last Superbowl, more offensive weapons is the key!

To be fair, D. Thomas got a separated shoulder on his first reception, and the weapons surrounding Manning were handicapped by having Peyton Manning as their QB in a big game.

That meant that the Broncos defense had to try playing mistake free football while the Seahawks defenders were able to play a relaxing game of Duck Hunt (easy setting).

I hope they do pursue him!! I dont want him back!! Dont get me wrong he is a good sLot . He haD 100 catches for 1000 yrds. Problem is thats not so great production these days anymore!! Anx its probably his ceiling!! Not to mention in a system that gets the slot touches by design. But the real problem is we already pay good dollar's to a slot and its garunteed!! That slot when connected with the system is more talented than Edelman. Taller with better athleticism and body control. I don't think they will pay Edelman. The Broncos want Decker back and Demariyus Thomas is one year away from free agency. They can't afford to have that much money being tied up in the WR position. If they give Decker a a new deal and extend Thomas, they will likely cut Welker or make him take a serious pay cut and go cheaper at the slot WR position.

I say if the Broncos re-sign Decker, Austin Collie is more likely to be signed by them than Edelman.
