Pats were interested in trading 4 Fitzgerald in 2013 but never initiated trade talks

Arizona: We were thinking a first and a third.
BB: I was thinking Jeff Demps.
Naw, he probably offered them Hernandez, post-murder investigation but pre-arrest, before cutting him.

Also if you get Fitz AND re-sign Edelman, who gets #11? Does it go to the HOF-caliber player? Or the team member with seniority? Bleacher report could do at least 12 articles on this. I remember enjoying back in the day that Greg Maddux was traded to the Dodgers and current #31 Brad Penny refused to give up his number. Though Maddux was already a living legend at that point, he was NOT Brad Penny.

Oh, and if you get Fitz and make the numbers work, you do it. It just doesn't seem like the self-interest of both teams (or any trade partner, really) would work until after 2015, given the penalty to AZ and the cap cost to the new team. Maybe someone with more cap space, but most of those teams suck so why pay $15M++ for a WR?

Or it could just add to it. They tried but didn't do enough to get him. I'm sure the asking price was too high.

I'd bet on it

Pats probably offered Arizona a 4th and a 7th.

Correct me if I am wrong but Pats would have to have 12.75m in cap space at the intial trade? Even if the worked out a new deal with Fitzgerald.

Since Tom Curran tweeted that the Pats never talked to the Cardinals, I have created a template for future trade rumors

The Pats have expressed interest in ______.

We can fill the blanks with names such as J.J. Watt, Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Jimmy Graham, and Patrick Willis.

After all, it is not required that the Pats actually talk to the player's team for it to be newsworthy:)

The Patriots will never have Larry Fitzgerald.

I repeat:

The Patriots will never have Larry Fitzgerald.

So you're saying there's a chance.

With his contract and obvious the cards would give us a #1 to take him. Fitz is going to be what next yr? 32? He has already shown decline. YPC down, td"s down n he is making qb money. OUCH!! He isnt elite any more i would much perfer blackmon or Gordon n maybe Britt after a workout proving he hasnt lost anything after his injury.

Heres proof fitz has declined. Fitz wad elite amazing. His one slight weakness wad slightly struggled seperating deep. He had just enough speed. However, he was so awesome going up for the ball it masked any slight weakness in his hame. Now he has lost a step n his speed to seperate deep is showing up n now he struggles seperating on medium routes. He is still good at tough catches in traffic and occasionally is good dtill for jump balls. So yeah a trade, give me gordon or blackmon these days. Fitz gonna be really going to b paid well for what he could do 3 yrs ago.

Lets make it clear to bill bellichick. Brady and his O doesnt need that true #1 who has already ade 6 pro bowls 90 tds and 13000 yrds in a 9 yr span. Brady and offense needs the next wr who is going to accomplish that!

Btw that means no more bringing in 33to35 yr old receivers n pass rushers. As in no more Torry Holts n Ochocincos. Same goes for 35 yr old jason taylors, aaron schoebels,or Andre Carters! Identify the next young raw elite talent Bill and take the time to coach him up. He just doesnt seem to like the hassle of coaching a player up into his complex time consuming scheme.

However, he has traded up lately to coach up talent but only out of sheer necessity. He was out of options. He should have done so a yr sooner when all those impact players were there.. Quinn, aldon smith, watt,aj green. We could have had any 2 of those guys or josh gordon. Instead he waited til his back was to the wall n trades up for Donta Hightower.

you can't write English correctly, you use hindsight as proof of your claims and you want to tell Kraft to make Belichick do what you want him to....sounds like a perfect time to put in YOUR resume over at Patriot Place...I'm sure we'll all be calling you "Coach Superpats" by the end of April.

Man...wished the Pats could have got Fitz years ago, he was just insane in that 2009-2011 stretch. He's still in the top 10% of WRs, but like other posters have mentioned his game has toned down a bit . Getting Fitz this offseason would be a dream, but getting a guy like Gordon via trade this offseason would be just over the top. That's like KG coming to the Celtics. Talk about game over NFL.

Of course, YOU will guarantee he keeps his nose clean, literally...right?

Why do you keep spruiking this despite no evidence to support it?
It's all rumors, but the rumors are certainly out there. But please let me amend my statement: Fitzgerald is not open to restructuring his salary to take a pay cut (and who can blame him?). Obviously he would likely accept any restructuring that paid him more money.

The Patriots likely put out "feelers" all the time for various players that we never hear about. That hardly means that they were even in the early stages of actually striking a deal, and that's IF this is even true. According to Tom Curran, the NEP never reached out to ARZ, and I tend to trust Curran over just about any reporter anymore.

According to Jason and Over the cap.com
:

"The contract of Fitzgerald brings up another point that I’ve touched on a few times which is the general view on paying certain players in the QB realm. The average veteran QB earns around $15 million and there are only 6 non-QB’s in the NFL that earn in the ballpark of the starting veteran QB- Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, Darrelle Revis, Mario Williams, Adrian Peterson, and Julius Peppers. Fitzgerald’s team is just 16-23 since he signed his extension and the combined records of those players is just 69-100 with Peterson’s Vikings being the lone team to make a playoff appearance. These players can be salary drivers for others in the NFL, but if the lack of success continues the League will likely continue the pullbacks in salary to all positions except Quarterback.

It is virtually impossible to pay both a franchise QB AND a franchise WR in the salary cap era, specifically lately in the flat cap era. They just don't produce winners on anything of a consistent basis.

But please let me amend my statement: Fitzgerald is not open to restructuring his salary to take a pay cut (and who can blame him?). Obviously he would likely accept any restructuring that paid him more money.

Good luck to him in attempting to find a team that will pay him more than 13 million in cash this year, with an 18 million dollar salary cap hit.

JOKE, til i get home im typing on android with viruses n cant c the screen really or what im typing how it looks. NOT that its any your business dude. As for my comments did i lie or say something that isnt clearly what he has done in past. has it ever worked out? Do you see any of last 5 superbowl champs trying his tactics? Hasnt he said in past he loves vets but rookies are a hassle? Has he ever fallen for an overpayed an average player because he liked that player personally? You know the answer to that. Hey dude, hey dude im just expressing my ideas to improve our team. Im just starting with the obvious and the basics.
