  • I have never seen this team more cursed with injuries since 1988 when they lost three core members of their defense in the final preseason game and it tanked the season. I fear the Pats lost Solder for a bit with his second concussion in 8 days.

  • That said, you gotta admire the lack of quit in this team. Most teams who suffered this many injuries would be 4-10, not 10-4. The Pats seem to not accept they should be done.

  • It is clear that Dennard, Talib, and Spikes are not close to 100%. Spikes barely can move at times. Dennard gave a very good first half, but couldn't maintain the intensity in the second half.

  • Although the offense missed Gronk in the red zone today, I think with a healthy Dobson or Thompkins the Pats probably convert TDs in both failed attempts in the red zone. I think Dobson would have caught one of those two passes on the final drive on fade routes that Amendola couldn't pull in. Dobson could have gone over the defender much easier.

  • Edelman has earned himself a nice payday this offseason. For all the talk about whether the Pats should have let Welker go or not, it was Edelman, not Amendola, who stepped up and made losing Welker not that big of a deal. Edelman is giving the Pats almost everything Welker could.

  • I am tired of everyone blaming McDaniels for all the problems with the offense. People need to start looking at the execution. It isn't McDaniels' fault if Brady throws a ball to a wide open Vereen in the dirt nor is it McDaniels' fault for a receiver dropping a ball right in his hands or that the o-line totally misses a blocking assignment and lets a defender run to Brady unblocked. McDaniels has made his mistakes in this game and this year, but anytime offense fails isn't his fault.

  • This loss sucks, but the Pats are still in good position to get the bye. the way this season is going I wouldn't be surprised if they ended in the #1 seed or the #6 seed. That is the way the season is going.

  • I am trying to be down on this team, but with all the injuries I just can't. This is the anti-2009 team. That team had tons of talent and no heart. This team has been gutted of talent due to injuries, but has tons of heart. I would rather see this team go one and done while going down fighting than the 2009 team that laid down at the first sign of adversity in the playoffs.

To your last point, I think this team is 13-1 without all the injuries, maybe 14-0 with Hernandez. So frustrating as a fan, it's also easy to see why Brady lost his cool in the post game

I was surprised buy the lack of Vereen use today. He seemed a perfect match up to exploit.

I think he has been trying to keep his cool. But he starts with finding out his 2nd TE is a murderer. Then we lose amendola after the 1st game. The rooks look like rookies. Then he gets them on track, has vereen and gronk. But it all started going downhill. Carolina gets the BS calls, Dobson goes down against Denver. KT is lost after texans. Then we lose gronk to that horrific hit.

He has been through a lot this season.

One point I forgot is that this was yet another horrible game by the refs. Someone needs to explain to me how Tannehill can throw a 20 yard pass from the pocket in an area where there wasn't a single Dolphins receiver within 15 yards of where he threw and yet it wasn't intentional grounding.

My problem with the refs this year isn't how horrible they've been - and they've been downright bad. My problem is CONSISTENCY.

If you're going to call the PI at the end of the Pats/Cle game, then you HAVE to call the PI on Edelman, or on Hooman in the EZ at the end of today's game. I don't CARE how you call those - both close plays (and both were PI's by the letter of the rule), but you have to be consistent. Either you call the ticky-tack borderline PI calls, or you let them play, but not BOTH, otherwise it's just a guessing game.

Ran some tape back on Miami's final drive - my gawd, does Gregory approach that play aimlessly and with wreckless abandon. Didn't set and read the player's next move, just barrels wrecklessly on one line. If that line isn't where the player is going, he's just toast. Really poor instincts. On Clay's 4th and 5 plus, which was the play of this game, he had a square one one one opportunity to tackle the guy in practically stand still position and just whiffed completely on wasn't even much of a move. I'm not sure if he was anxious to get him in front of the marker or Fletcher coming across low threw him off, but if he just wrapped him up right there, game over.

On a play on the same drive, Hartline ran a quick slant for a first down and Gregory was covering the inside and just another flat out whiffed another tackle. No attempt to wrap, just a heave of his body. This guys a vet and that is rookie, low IQ stuff.

I found it surprising that one of either Tompkins or Dobson couldn't suit up in this game for red zone purposes. Extremely important game, was it really a surprise the team struggled in the red zone with the smurf WR's? They're either really banged up or BB realizes for this team to have any chance in the post season, they need to be 100%.

For as good as a season Ghost has had this year, can't help but feel his worst game of the year was a major contributor to the L. The missed FG in great kicking conditions, the shanked kick off. He makes the FG, they win this game on the last drive. Even the best of kickers are going to miss a couple, you just hate it to be in a game where every point matters.

What happened to all the plus T/O's NE got so used to over the past couple years and earlier this year? Outside the weather flukey Denver game, this team has just not been able to force T/O's, make any types of momentum changing plays on D. Today's game was basically a wash given the late Brady pick was game ending either way and the botched FG snap was totally unforced.

Tannehill is a really good looking young QB. He's really calm in the pocket and generally collected at all times. He makes some really great big boy throws, strong timing routes, back shoulder. I'd expect Miami to be a team, because that kid, to be wreckoned with in the AFC East for awhile.

Really tough loss - you just hope they can still capture the bye. At this point, I'm tempering my expectations at a playoff game in Denver. Anything past that is gravy. I'd just like to see that chance, matchup and the pure entertainment value for that game. If they can get Tompkins/Dobson back healthy and on track, they will most certainly improve on the red zone O. AFC is so bad this year, anything can happen. Cinci is looking like a bunch of old ladies as we speak. The Pats played a sound football game today against a good football team. They lacked big plays, had a couple bad breaks. They rarely drop total stinkers and are in every game. Who knows what can happen.

How about we make the playoffs first? A loss to Baltimore which is probably 50/50, and a last game upset by Buffalo and we could find ourselves watching from home in January.

I think they really need ridley in the red zone right now. Cant be conservative with him anymore. Blount is not the typical RZ back as he takes some time to get going.

Tough loss. But they were in the game and had a chance on both D and O to close it out. Even with all the injuries this team has been competitive.

I think they lose another tough one in Baltimore this Sunday night but still finish with the 2nd seed.

Yes the playoffs are gravy at this point. No expectations.

This is spot on. It was shocking that they really couldn't create space for Vereen. I thought he would be a primary red zone weapon in Gronk's absence.

This was a tough loss.

We had a lot to gain by the win....just didn't get it done.

But, I think plenty of what we saw today was "gameplan" specific. BB purposely sat both KT and Dobson (KT probably could've went) and DJ Williams (receiving TE). The lack of use from Vereen also seemed to be an obvious gameplan issue, as I don't believe BB wanted Vereen to be a focal point of Baltimore's gameplan against us this coming week.

The Baltimore game was more important a win. We all know the history. BB held back in order to beat Baltimore.

It will work out.

for a game which wouldve won us the AFC East, BB was holding back for the baltimore game ??? Sorry cant buy this. 3 games left, every game is important. They were not healthy today and vereen got taken out by MIA from the offense . BB is not going to risk losing a game to screw up for next week. This isnt preseason anymore.

His size is going to hurt his red zone stock..now outside of the red zone he is perfect

Which is precisely the reason why he'll likely be let go during the off-season. If he wasn't scheduled to have such a big cap hit, it may be different. He's still a very capable 3rd safety, but we definitely need to improve upon our starting position opposite McCourty. We have to hope that Harmon will be the guy, since T.Wilson looks like another wasted 2nd round pick. Then again, Harmon may need another year to develop too, but we may be stuck with him starting no matter what. We should have taken a safety in the first or second round in my opinion.

Doug Kyed from NESN reported tonight that Thompkins has looked very much in pain and not healed, despite having practiced. He is obviously still recovering.

Dobson wasn't that close to playing from all accounts, as he only practiced one time total since his injury, and that was on Friday. Hopefully we can get at least one of them back for the game at BAL on Sunday. That will be a major dogfight, as BAL now controls their destiny for winning the division outright.

Very unfortunate for Gostkowski, not only with the missed FG (which was bound to happen), but more so in the sense of the botched kickoff. Totally unexcusable.

As far as the failure to get turnovers goes, I just don't think this defense is very good..at all. Some will feel differently, but I'm not sure how. We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Tannehill is a really good looking young QB. He's really calm in the pocket and generally collected at all times. He makes some really great big boy throws, strong timing routes, back shoulder. I'd expect Miami to be a team, because that kid, to be wreckoned with in the AFC East for awhile.

No surprise there. He went high in the draft for a good reason, and it seemed like many here immediately wrote him off after his rookie year. Yes, Miami has a capable QB finally, no doubt about it.

They are allowing way too much pressure on Brady, and the apparent loss of Solder isn't going to help that any. It's quite possible he'll be shut down for the year with his 4th diagnosed concussion. I think in a best case scenario we won't get him back until the playoffs, so the bye is of the utmost importance for about 10 different reasons.

As you said, who knows what can happen? We could get the 2nd seed and give DEN a tough game in the AFFCG, or we could go one and done. On the other hand, we could certainly lose one of these last 2 games and end up as the 3rd seed. I expect CIN to be playing tough in their last game at home vs BAL, so I don't think we can count on them losing another game anymore. That expected loss happened tonight, as many assumed that it may.

Not only will the game at Baltimore be extremely difficult, I wouldn't even look past the last game at home to Buffalo at this point in time. They have a capable enough defense, a more than capable running game, and a scrambling/athletic QB who will force us to play zone defense to avoid getting burned by his ability to run. That usually doesn't work out too well, at least in terms of yds allowed. Again, I don't have much faith in this defense myself.

BB purposely sat both KT and Dobson (KT probably could've went)

Again...I don't know why so many are making this assumption...at all? Is it because they were questionable? That is likely due to "hoping" that one of them could go, while also attempting to keep MIA in the dark.

According to Doug Kyed of NESN from his report tonight:

"Thompkins has practiced for two straight weeks, but he still appears to be moving gingerly on his hip."

That doesn't sound to me like "they probably could've gone." It sounds to me like he's attempting to recover from an injury and isn't ready yet. As far as Dobson goes, he has practiced a total of ONE time since the injury, and that was on Friday in a limited role. What makes you take this information and come to the conclusion that they could've gone and that it's a big conspiracy theory?

and DJ Williams (receiving TE).

DJ Williams is our 3rd TE, possibly our 4th option if you actually count sets where Devlin is used. He isn't acclimated to our system yet, as Hooman and Mulligan are much better options. They've been here all year and are higher on the depth chart.

I'm not sure why you'd come to the conclusion that DJ Williams is going to suddenly come in and take over their reps, as he attempts to learn some of the offense in a depth role?

The lack of use from Vereen also seemed to be an obvious gameplan issue, as I don't believe BB wanted Vereen to be a focal point of Baltimore's gameplan against us this coming week.

The lack of use from Vereen was due to Miami taking him out of the game. The Patriots gave him looks both in the run and pass game, and yet he wasn't able to do a damn thing. They had him bracketed and covered like a blanket.

Guess what? Baltimore is obviously going to have Shane Vereen as a major focal point whether he was having a good game today or not. This isn't exactly a news flash.....but there's not really anyone left. If ANY team doesn't game plan for Vereen from here on out, shame on them x100. I'm sure he will still be able to make some plays here and there, but defenses will be preparing for him like no one's business. Gronkowski isn't attracting attention from his couch.

Stopping Vereen will be a major focal point. Let's hope that MIA didn't give anyone a blueprint to copy which we cannot match.

The Baltimore game was more important a win. We all know the history. BB held back in order to beat Baltimore.

We had the opportunity to win the division today in a hat and t-shirt game, one in which the Pats rarely lose in years past. On top of that they had the chance to take over the #1 overall seed (which is now likely gone forever, seeing as how DEN would have to lose again which isn't likely). The thought of Bill Belichick and the rest of the team not taking this game as seriously or Baltimore somehow being "more important" is ridiculous, don't you think?

I'm not sure why everyone expects deep routes to happen anyways, with how banged up and terrible the O-Line is right now.

I think they lose another tough one in Baltimore this Sunday night but still finish with the 2nd seed.

That may be very difficult to do, seeing as how Cincy is unbeaten this year at home and we'd have to assume a Baltimore victory there in week 17.

I don't think that we'll have the opportunity to get the 2nd seed if we lose either one of the last two games myself, at least not at 11-5. Obviously, anything can happen, but limping into the playoffs like that would be a bad spot to be in, especially with all of the unanswered questions and issues that we have on both sides of the ball at the moment.

It may not make any difference in the end, but they may be able to at least make the second game (assuming a bye) and see what happens from there. That's really about all we can hope for at this point in time.

Lots of problems on both sides of the ball starting with the main core practices such as making a successful tackle, keeping your QB upright, running the ball/stopping the run and winning in the trenches. There aren't too many years where you see these kinds of core practices failing on such an epic level in a Belichick coached team.

I think the main area where having those players back will help is keeping the opposing defenses more honest, and potentially stretching the field a bit more.

As you said, it will likely be difficult getting them the ball on longer routes, but it may at least allow for defenses to play a bit differently. They will certainly take some middle route shots here and there, and hope that one of them can get the ball in space and gain some YACs too. Of course Nate Solder's situation will be an important aspect to monitor moving forward, as we have way too many issues on the offensive line already as it is.

It obviously didn't help that Josh Boyce dropped THREE more passes today either, as they did attempt to get some speed involved outside of the "slow white six" (Amendola, Edelman, Collie, Hooman, Devlin, Mulligan) short to intermediate routes.
