Jets claim Sudfeld

I don't believe a team can "claim" a player off a PS, though they can "sign" one (which requires the player to agree to sign).

That is correct; you cannot claim a player off another team's PS. Moreover, there are restrictions on signing players off another team's PS (e.g., you cannot do it if that team is your next opponent; if you do, you must keep that player on your 53-man roster for three weeks, etc.).

And many here agree with you. They would rather have only 2 healthy receivers available than lose the potential of Sudfeld.

I think that we should have picked up a receiver after Game One. Such a receiver might actually be a bit useful on Sunday (see Mulligan).

I understand disagreeing with Belichick's choice (likely not the choice of many posters), but I don't understand not wanting to sign a receiver when there were 2 healthy receivers available.

Personally I would have rather kept Sudfeld than add Collie, but that would likely be trading some immediate (if presently unknown) need, for a potential future benefit.

But......

How can Collie help when he's a midseason pickup who didn't go through all of camp? Haven't we been told, ad nauseum, that such a thing is not possible in New England?

Sure, we've been told that.

Belichick could have signed someone who knew our offense better. When the need arose, he waited. When he had no choice, he didn't sign Sims or another who knew our system as an emergency fill-in. He chose Collie.

Most posters would have chosen someone who knew our system.

You are mistaking what uninformed fans repeat as if it were fact, with actual fact.

Didnt teams steal players off practice squads years back?

You need to re-read the responses. A team can offer a PS player on another team a contract to play on THEIR 53, not their PS. If the player agrees, he can go. That team needs to keep him on their 53 for some # of weeks. If the player wants to stay on the PS, he can stay.

Let's just pray the jets don't put him on defense. Suds has a knack for creating turnovers.

Oh well.

Sudfeld won't be a threat any time soon, so it doesn't concern me.

It sucks that he didn't get time to develop on the PS. The Patriots obviously knew the risks in exposing him to waivers, that should tell you all that you need to know about how they feel about him. I mean, the guy couldn't even beat out Matthew Mulligan of all people for snaps.

Suds was a UDFA for a reason. BB has had success with players like him, but other than some preseason games that meant squat, he didn't perform.

I feel sorry for him that he got scooped by the Yets. Maybe Rex thinks he can play QB, or did someone mention that already :D

I called this in the "Sudfeld Cut" thread. This is gonna be payback for Woodhead. This is gonna come back to haunt us for years. Mock me if you want but I said cutting Sudfeld was a dumb move, it's stupid to throw away a very good prospect when for Christ's sake, we don't even have 2 decent TE's on the roster. Really dumb move. Watch Sudfeld beat us in a few weeks. I hated this move the second I heard it.

I was reading that topic already aware of Jets getting him and you really nailed, but I don't think it's going to be that chaos. They don't even have a good QB.

Also, I heard that Sudfeld had 4 or 5 surgeries in college, is that right? If so, I think that could be a concern too.

I just really think we need to go after TE's ASAP, we had two of the very top 5 TE's in the league, and you don't go from there to nothing like now and hope to work well, with a lot of rookies on the WR position.

you should bottle your paranoia...I suspect millions and even more once it comes to market

Making team captain by his 7th game, not bad for an UDFA.
