Not exactly a surprise; a huge dropoff in performance in 2011 left him as a healthy gameday inactive for nearly every game in the last half of the season.

LB Gary Guyton leaves Pats for Miami

Free-agent linebacker Gary Guyton has signed with the Dolphins, according to multiple reports. The 26-year-old Guyton played the last four seasons with the Patriots, and has started 32 games with 229 tackles and 4 1/2 sacks over the course of his career with New England. A 6-foot-3, 245-pound inside linebacker known for his speed, he started every game for the Patriots in 2009 and finished with a career-high 85 tackles that season.

More reason to throw all day on Miami now

camp fodder :)

Everyone has a role in the Patriots system. Guyton's role was too stay out of the way of the football players.

And nothing of value was lost.

Gary Guyton may not have been a superstar but he produced far more than more highly drafted LBs. Good Luck to him in his future endeavors...:)

Yup, certainly made the most of what he was given unlike the following duds: Cunningham, Crable etc.

And better luck after leaving the Fins. :)

I thought he always played hard and did his best with limited ability. You can cough all you want and continue to make an ass of yourself. Really funny.

He was a pleasant surprise in 2008 as an UDFA. He filled in well for Mayo in 2009. Good luck, Gary.

Now Guyton can fall down unblocked for Miami
Bye Bye

Wow, talk about missing my point...
I was agreeing with the quoted poster, referencing linebackers that actually failed eventhough they were picked relatively high, in comparison to Guyton who made the most of his opportunities.

Sheesh, need to spell things out clearly on this board for fears of people taking up pitch forks. People really do take things too seriously here at times.

Cunningham started all season, and played pretty well as a rookie.

Cunningham started 11 games in his first season with 27 tackles, 1 sack and 2 forced fumbles. I'd say it was a serviceable season taking all that into account.

With that said, he had a marked dropoff in his second season where he was a regular scratch and seemed to play exclusively on special teams. Though I guess some of that can be attributed to his reported hamstring injury.

...and I believe 7 "Cunninghams," defined as missed tackles on would-be sacks:eek:

Missed this one. Thought he'd become a Colt.
Thanks and good luck Gary, with a couple exceptions each season.

I bid Mr. Guyton good luck with the rest of his NFL career. May it last several years more.

You are correct. There certainly were some times when he did exactly as you said. Not a bad player, but never stood out. Maybe in Miami he will.
