i could be wrong but i have heard that Tedy last time was in Italy decided to return to Us swimming from Genoa to Boston instead to fly as the flight was delayed

You're right. He did the backstroke with one arm so he could he could keep the other arm above water and speed-read "War and Peace" en route. He returned the book to Boston Public Library as soon as he arrived.
