Steelers cut Larry Foote

He'd be a nice addition if BB feels he can still play. I haven't heard anything about his play dropping off, so I wouldn't mind him starting inside opposite of Mayo. This guy has played in a 3-4 his whole career, picking up the system won't be problem.

He already has two rings form the Steelers, what else can they offer that he hasn't already gotten in Pittsburgh?

Yes, but maybe he really wants to EARN it this time. The 2 with the Steelers were by default because they didn't have to go through NE.:D;)

I'll gladly stand corrected on that! :D:p

Sounds like the Steelers are holding out one last ditch effort to trade Foote rather than release him outright. If Belichick is interested, he should offer a sixth or seventh rounder for Foote to avoid a bidding war.

Wouldn't they be responsible for his full salary? I think anything over 1.5 mil is too much.

$1.5 million for a guy in his prime who can start inside? Jarvis Green is getting $2.5 million in base salary to be a back up. The guy had one down year largely because the Steelers were trying to get Timmons starter ready since they dedicated a first rounder on the guy. If the Pats got the 2007 version of Foote, his $2.88 million salary would be a steal. Besides, if the Pats traded for Foote, they would most likely want to work out a longer term deal.

The question is whether his skill set fits the Pats needs.

He can don the same Jesery worn by the player in the poster on his bedroom wall when he was a kid.

Like most football players, he grew up as a football fan. He didn't root for the Steelers. He rooted for the Lions.

After practice playing peewee he did not go to bed and dream about a parade in Pittsburg. No he dreamed about hoisting a Lombardi in downtown Detriot.

I hope he plays for the Lions. Because if he does, it won't be about money, it will be about a kid living out his childhood dream. And isn't that what football GAMES are all about.

no. They didn't let go of Foote because they spent a first on Timmons. They did it because TImmons is already a better player.

Foote seems like the typical defender that Baltimore or Pittsburgh cuts: looked great, but people later realize that he was a product of those around him.

Bring him into camp, sure, but don't go giving away players for him.

I know people are always saying we should sign recently cut players, but Foote does seem like a decent fit here. Also, he has had great production his entire career. Even with splitting time with Timmons last year, he still put up good numbers:

The issue will be what we do with McKenzie, Guyton, and Bruschi if we want to bring on another ILB

McKenzie will be a rookie - I don't see him stepping into a full-time role right away given how complicated the Pats' defensive schemes are (ie. he's not Mayo). Until Guyton shows that he can make plays consistently against the run, he is best suited to playing on passing downs. Based upon his play during the past 2 years, Bruschi is not the answer for a team that needs to start playing SB-caliber defense - if he is more than a part-time player in the middle this year, the Pats are in trouble.

Larry Foote anybody

Just heard he is to be released, could be are new LB we need

What about leroy hill

His asking price is higher than the Pats can afford. I also don't think he's worth what he's probably going to get, although he'd be a solid addition to any team for sure.

Re: Larry Foote any body

I don't seee why larry foote can't have as many threads as julius peppers.

but if you want to sell the idea, dude, you need to find an appropriate av.

Exactly! :D I almost gave up the av after this weekend. Almost. I couldn't quite bring myself to do it, though. Soon...soon. :(

Re: Larry Foote any body

would the patriots quit?

don't give up the ship 'til we know this unfounded rumor is really dead.

I would not mind having Foote at all. His play did not diminish. He just found himself in an unfortunate position with the immediate emergence of young talent - Timmons and Woodley. If he isn't going to try to break the bank, I say give him a call. He's only 28 and still productive.

i think we been doing this every yer for the past 10 yer lol looking at every LB thats in the draft or every LB that gets cut and 90% of the time we dont get any one so i realy dont care any more who ever BB puts out there is good for me
