How did you become a PATS fan??

My father turned on a football game with the Boston Patriots on way back in 1960 on a small B/W TV.....this was a change since my father, like a lot of people in NE back then, was a NY Giants fan. I just latched onto the Patriots and never let go.

Simple. My uncle, Mosi Tatupu, was drafted and I became a fan. Ok so actually he was drafted the year I was born. I didn't realize my uncle played pro ball till I was about 8. I then became a fan.

In 1998 I moved to the Boston area from Toronto. I was desperate to cling onto some teams that didnt suck. That and I was kind of football deprived in Canada.

After loosely following the Patriots it was impossible not to become a hardcore fan within a couple years.

I lost a bet......

Billy Sullivan landed the franchise. even though i was too young to be a real fan (though I was already a baseball fan through osmosis from my dad) I really liked the idea of having our own team.

Still do. Thanks Billy.

So does this mean that Lofa Tatupu is your cousin?

When Fred Taylor was singed.

When Fred Taylor was singed.

LOL That statement and your other posts seem to indicate you are a Fred Taylor fan as opposed to a Pat's fan. If Fred goes down, you're gone...

When I was about 11 I wrote letters to a bunch of teams / players for autographs. The only 3 I ever got back was Mike Haynes, Steve Grogan and Tim Fox. Little pictures with "Frito Lay" logo on the bottom. Since then, watched and followed like a lunatic. Besides the pictures, the other clincher was watching them beat the Jets 56 - 3 one year (78?) and then 55-21 the next year. (Maybe the other way around) I lived in New York at the time and hated all the New York fans at school..it's Bruins, Sox and Pats.

I lad I used to be friends with, has family who live in Boston. I used to like football, but never had a team. He used to ask how the Pats had been doing, so I ended up looking out for them. Ended up becoming a fan.

Also, our Superbowl win over Carolina was the first full live game I had watched on TV. I had only previously seen bits of games and highlights. :)

Common now there was the CFL ya know:p:p:p:p

ill be a fan as long as hes on the team ;)

Jags fan always, but Fred has always been my favorite player since he was drafted. First time he touched a football in the NFL he took it to the house for a 52 yard TD run, how could you not love the guy :D

1970, I was a kid from the "frontier" of Wistah County. I remember my grandmother crying when we moved from Cambridge like we were going to Alaska. More Giants fans than Pats fans out here back then.

Opening game against the Fish. I remember the day like it was a movie. Me, my dad, my grandfather and uncle were hanging out at Harvard Stadium parking lot and the guys and their friends were getting bombed on Schaeffers and Schlits cans and smoking butts constantly. My uncle was home from Viet Nam about two weeks and really psyched to see everyone. I was in awe of the whole day

Joe Kapp and Jim Nance are the only two names I remember from then. We won and I was hard-wired for life. We went to the Vikings game later that year, too. Pats went 2-12 that year and finished last but we had a team that wasnt the Giants fron New Fuggin York.

I remember being 5 years old and my Dad drove us over to see them building Schaefer Stadium ("The one beer to have when you're having more than one!"). Anyway, back then the Pats didn't get on TV much so it was tough to really follow them as a young kid (plus you had Bobby Orr and the Big, Bad Bruins in their prime), so even though I remember the mid-70's teams, it really wasn't until the 80's when they made the Superbowl run that the Pats became my number one team. Of course they had a lot of competition, since the Bruins were always in the playoffs, Bird and the Celtics were dominating and even the Sox had the '86 World Series. The one thing the Pats had going for them was it was easy to be a fan, alot the players lived in the surrounding towns, I remember walking up to Foxboro (or was it Sullivan) Stadium and gettting in to watch the Rookie mini-camp, just sat right on the 50 and they handed out rosters to the 100 or so fans who showed up!

Right after my first tailgating experience, and when "Squish the Fish" was all anyone talked about!

Yup, although I've never met him. They lived in Mass. (of course) and I lived in Southern California when I was young. Actually thinking about it there was one family thing where he might of been there, but since I'm 4 years older than he is he would have only been a couple years old. And I was too young to really care about who was there...I don't think I even realized/cared at that point my uncle (by marriage) was a football player.

I remember one time Mosi got me and my cousin an autographed official football. We were just 8-10 so we just went out and played with the ball, and tore it up and eventually lost it. But I do have a boat load of autographed cards.

I became a fan in 76. although only casually because I was a kid and they were only on tv when they were good, which of course wasn't very often. But in those years when they were on tv, they were fun to watch.

I was born in New Jersey and moved to Miami when I was 2. I grew up watching football with my dad(a jest fan), every Sunday and Monday night, much to my mother's dismay.

Anyways, when I was about 4 I told my father I didn't like the jest, I don't remember why, but go figure. He told me I could like any team I chose, as long as it wasn't the dolphins, because he hates the dolphins. Even at a young age, I hated the dolphins as well, so I agreed and chose to like the Patriots, because I liked the colors red, white, and blue.

Soon thereafter we drafted Bledsoe and an obsession was born. Today I can get my dad to root for New England in any big game, except when it's against the jest of course >=/

I am a Buffalo Bills fan but a terrible troll! I refuse to deceive you guys that way!

Please read my thread in the new member's forum!

I am very happy to be here, and the Patriots fans have been just great to me!

When did I become a Bills fan?

1967 at the Rockpile in Buffalo, we lost 53-6 to the Oakland Raiders..... Wow, that was fun (lol)

Welcome. Between your team and the Bengals they could put a team in Alcatraz. They could be called The Alcatraz Bengalbills. :D Tough stretch of luck for you guys lately huh? IMO, Lynch and Whitner are your two best players, so it'll suck for you if the owner doesn't want them anymore.
