Re: Pats sign Deltha O'Neal, release Spach, sign OL Bender and DeVree to practice squ

drinking Schaeffer, sitting on a metal bench with my season ticket, in lightning rainstorms through 2-14 seasons has made me appreciate TODAY'S Patriot organization....egocentric know-it-all doomsayers like the "Archives" are an unneeded and unwanted addition to the fanbase.

Your right....lets just blow smoke up each others butt's all day long.

As opposed to "I've-been-through-the-good-times-and-the-bad, literally-felt-my-keyster-being-slowly-frozen-to-a-cold-metal-bench-at-the-old-foxboro-stadium-while-the-team-was-suffering-through-abysmal-seasons, all-the-while-never-wavering-in-my-fandom" know it alls who feel that that having lived through the above makes them more qualified or "entitled" to express their opinions regarding the team.

And though I've never worked in one, how do you disparage anyone for working in a "cubicle," as if that's a dead giveaway as to someone's intelligence. Pretty offensive stuff there, joker.

Re: Pats sign Deltha O'Neal, release Spach, sign OL Bender and DeVree to practice squ

Well, I hold the opinion of people who have been through the REALLY awful times (I haven't been, I started following them around '98). The recent sky is falling bandwagoners are really annoying.

The Patriots won't be any worse than 13-3 this season. You should appreciate it instead of complaining about our "horrible" D, our awful backup QB, etc

I don't know about entitled, but I'd put more stock in something offered by someone who's seen both ends of the spectrum. It's harder to expect an accurate assessment from someone who started following the team when the Lombardis started rolling in, given that all they know is success. Even a small step back is going to presumably feel like a major catastrophe to them.

The true annoyance is that most of the "sky is falling" types don't offer any sound arguments. They rely on extremely small sample sizes and focus disproportionately on failures to make their case by and large, and that isn't doing anyone any favors.

Re: Pats sign Deltha O'Neal, release Spach, sign OL Bender and DeVree to practice squ

Eh, he may not be the next Asante Samuel or Ty Law for this team, but he puts my secondary concerns to rest much moreso than Antonio Bryant did.

I would agree with your last point, but not so much with this statement. Presumably there are people in the organization who were not a part of it until immediately before the wine started flowing (and afterwards). Does this make a talent evaluator or scout less qualified or objective--the fact the he/she might have worked for another organization prior to the Patriots? (I know we're talking about fans and arm-chair analysts here but I think the analogy isn't completely irrelevant).

I've never claimed to "know" anything above and beyond any other Patriots fan...I'm just a fan who's looking forward to the season and hoping it's a successful one....I can't say our "secondary $ucks!!!!!", because I haven't seen ANY evidence from the regular season to make such a statement.I can't say ANY team decision is a "real bad move!!!!!" because I AM NOT in the Patriots organization and I have NO IDEA what the people charged with running this franchise are seeing or planning.

as far as "cubicle dweeb know-it-alls" go, just listen to EEI during the afternoon...it's the same nonsense as all the chicken little posts on this board the past month and a half...sorry that offends your fragile sensibilities.

Did you realize that Schaeffer is the only beer to have if your having more than one......
Schaefer is the one beer to have
When you're having more than one
Schaefer pleasure doesn't fade
Even when your thirst is done
The most rewarding flavor in this man's world
For people who are having fun
Schaefer is the one beer to have
When you're having more than one

Didn't seem out of line at all at the time, but can you imagine the flak from the PC police if a beer company came out with these lines to an ad campaign now?

Like I said, it doesn't offend me personally. Just think it's an offensive generalization, period. But I have to assume certain things about you to say that, and I obviously don't know anything about you other than that you're a longtime fan. So I'll drop it. :disagreement:

Why do heated debates always seem to flame out on this forum?

Re: Deltha O'Neil to be a Pat?

This is a message board. GM experience is not required in order to opine.

I was being milidly sarcastic what I really mean is they must see something I mean we did make it to the SB with Earthwind Moreland as one of our starters

Re: Deltha O'Neil to be a Pat?

Unlike Bryant, O'Neill has a serious ST resume. That's important to BB. If fans would just pay attention to BB's football philosophy they could anticipate more of these moves. On WEEI BB remarked yestarday that he was accustomed to seeing "the back of O'Neill's jersey" in the kicking game. :)

That being said, O'Neill is no lock to be on the roster Sunday but I think he will be.

Smartest thing posted this year; to bad it will fall mostly on deaf ears.

Re: Pats sign Deltha O'Neal, release Spach, sign OL Bender and DeVree to practice squ

From the Denver Examiner:

A few days after figuring out what we already knew - that John Lynch is no longer a factor on the field - the Patriots signed another former Broncos defensive back with limited skills --

The New England Patriots signed two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Deltha O'Neal on Monday, two days after they released exhibition-season starter Fernando Bryant.

Perhaps the Patriots are ripe for the picking. We know all too well of O'Neal's hijinx, and the fact that the Patriots would take a chance on, first Lynch then O'Neal, tells me there are major problems in the defensive secondary.

In the past five years, he has one total return TD in the kicking game.
Accustomed?

In the past three years, he has one total special teams return.

So, while he has plenty of special teams experience, the majority of that came in his first few seasons in Denver. Since then, he really hasn't been a factor on special teams.

If "you paid attention to BB's football philosophy," at least relative to the implied weight of special teams play, I'm not sure this move would have been anticipated.

Deltha O'Neal seems to fit in with Jason Webster, Fernando Bryant, Lewis Sanders, Tory James, Eric Warfield, Ike Charlton, and Duane Starks from the past three years. The Pats certainly have a philosophy, or at least a pattern, of bringing in former starting corners who have been released by their team. It's hard to see much in the way of results from this group, however.

O'Neal was benched in 2007, replaced by the Bengal's top pick, and then couldn't hold the third corner spot. He doesn't look much different from the list above right now.

Yes, the blind squirrel phenomenon is illustrated again! :)

Silly me. I listened to BB say that he signed D O'N because of his ST versitility. Last time I listen to those fake voice imitations on WEEI.

Strangely enough, I rarely listen to EEI; I was trapped in my car away from the net over the weekend.

Re: Deltha O'Neil to be a Pat?

Much as I hate them, just look at a team like Indy. They rarely dip into the free agency pool, instead filling needs through solid drafting, and they have been one of the most consistent franchises of the decade.

Looking at our draft this year, the need for free agents to step in and be major contributors has been drastically reduced.

Four undrafted free agents made their team this year.
