Worst starting CBs in Belichick era?

You think that Samuel and Scott were pro-bowl quality starters in 2005? Starks started. Was he your pro-bowler?

The answer is "No". I don't think Hobbs and O'Neal are the worst starters at CB under Belichick. And if Wheatley beats out O'neal for the start, then the starting three are certainly better than 2005 (and 2004 and 2006 for that matter).

Samuel was top 5 for one year, his contract year.

Predict.

All I know is that this is the first time in the BB era we don't have a Pro-Bowl league top 5 #1 corner.

Spot on response, be carefulthough, Hobbs haters do not like to deal with fact.

The success of the '08 secondary is 100% tied to the success of the seven guys playing in front of them. If they can bring the kind of pressure expected, we are going to look very, very good.
Still would give a third rounder for Lito Sheppard in a minute. He has the ability for a pro bowl or two with us. I see an upgrade over Hobbs or start opposite Ellis.

I'd try and offer a fourth rounder first, but a 3rd round pick is probably a fair trade for Sheppard - I also wouldn't be against this, especially seeing how we'll have two 2nd rounders next year.

However, I do think that our secondary can be serviceable as is, although maybe not outstanding in its own right.

As others have said, as the defensive pressure goes, so goes our secondary this season.

What's the deal with O'Neal anyway ? It seems like he's really good but flames out - he was good for Denver then Shanahan got rid of him. Same with Cincy. Seems like there's a reasonable chance he could be really good here under this one year contract especially with him and Harrison seeming to really like each other.

As far as I know the word on the street about about O'Neil is he's very athletic, and he tends to gamble for picks and as a result gets beaten at times.

I really think the bengals got rid of him not because he's done, but more that they really didn't need him any more and he probably took up a lot of cap space.

They have two potentially great young corners in Jonathan Joseph and Leon Hall

Oh I have no idea

I'm not criticizing the front office's moves this off-season at all

if BB is content with the secondary, then that is plenty for me.

All I meant by my above comments are that I would not be pissed/see it as a waste of a third rounder if he WERE to offer that for Sheppard. I don't know if I'd be as happy if he offered a second rounder - I'm not sure he's worth that much.

Without a doubt.........Hobbs & Lito with the young kids and Deltha would be solid baby.

don't forget, we would still need to pay Lito, and he aint cheap:D

Just to look back at 2004 with Samuel and Law is a crazy thing to see. We were stocked then!

2004 Samuel wasn't anywhere close to 2006 Samuel, and anyway, wasn't Law hurt at the end of that year? He didn't play in the playoffs, did he? I know he didn't play in the Superbowl that year.

he got hurt like mid season vs the steelers I dont remember the exact week but it was probably between games 4-8

Yes, Ty missed the entire playoffs that year and Seymour didn't play until the Super Bowl. That was Peyton's 49 TD season too, and we held the Colts to 3 points with with Troy seeing significant time at DB as well as an undrafted rookie FA (Gay) and a 2nd year Asante Samuel that was far from what he has become.

On paper, that was our weakest secondary due to Ty's injury, not our strongest.

That 2004 season shows you how and why BB swaps out CBs like he does. Its not about names, its about results, and we quickly forgot about those problems. NO on the Lito talk, the only reason he wants out is for a big contract, its been rehashed plenty already. One would have to figure on Oneil being a JAG til he proves otherwise. I know alot of Bronco fans(Lynch and now Oneil) are snickering at us now, not a good thing looking at their team this year.

I think the Bronco fans would swap D/backfields for ours in a minute, if they also could choose to swap for two of our d'linemen for two of theirs!

By far the worse duo of the BB era......I would throw at Hobbs all day and night if I were the opposition.

Still dont get the Hobbs hate. Hobbs has problems against elite guys but he shuts down tons of others. He's shut down Evans, TJ Housh., Coles, Chambers (pre san diego), amongst others.
