With so much talk about Robert Kraft and cash spending ....
Salary cap I got to thinking well where is the contrast going back historically ...
sure enough the information is available ... accuracy??? I separated into 2 posts. Average is 18.8 ...

Using Spotrac.com, I tracked the cash spending for every NFL team since 1994. I took averages of each year, as well as total averages across the past 29 years. This is the Patriots’ cash spending for every year since 1994 and the ranking compared to the rest of the NFL.

Quick and dirty math: total of 18th out of 32. Middle of the pack. What I would want to know, if it's available: What is the percentage difference between the highest and lowest spending team (and between the highest and 18th)? In other words, is the difference in cash spending equivalent to multiple pro-bowl players salary per year, or closer to one additional UDFA?

Checkout the Reddit link for some answers.

1. Many of those old numbers are laughably low, as in not even enough to field a team of minimum salary players.

2. Spotrac is generally fine for individual current contracts because you know that at the very least, they just stole the information. Where are they claiming to get this super old data from?

(How do we know Spotrac steals stuff? OverTheCap used to have minor errors on their site to catch Spotrac using the same incorrect info.)

3. The NFLPA has published the official cash numbers for recent seasons. The Pats were 25th this past season, not 31st. Why are Spotrac’s numbers so far off?

And yet the Patriots footy pajama crowd will defend Krafty Bob and anything the club does, regardless of whether it is serving bologna sandwiches at training camp lunch or taking prospective free agents to dinner at The End Zone

Wasn't Drew's second contract pretty high ?

It would have been far more illustrative if you had added another column showing what the salary cap was for each given year. What was spent in comparison to the cap is far more telling than their rank amongst the other “31”.

So in 2001, Drew Blesdoe cost nearly 50% of the teams salary?

i love the post, but am dubious of the information

Major media outlets started asking when Brady left where the money was going as the Pats were claiming they were spending money and "couldn't afford" certain players over the years.

This confirms it.
