We traded out...San Diego.

Since the Chargers do not have a 3 or 4 this is almost certainly for a 2 next year. Jacob Hester was selected to replace Lorenzo Neal.

same thing i was thinking...it better have been for a 2nd rounder (not that SD's will be very low, but ohh well)

Thank god it was at least a 2nd next year and this years 5th...some value at least even though I'd have preferred a pass rusher, but I guess the FO didn't see any value at the pick with the 2 CBs off the board...

Thats a good deal .. sure it will be in the bottom 3rd of the 2nd round but next year NE will be looking to make the D younger I would have thought

my guess is they either wanted langford or godfrey, and once they were gone, they figured whoever else they wanted (goff or avril, maybe?) will still be there with their second 3rd rounder.

That's a good trade - I think the guy they were targeting at that pick was no longer on the board.

i want avril, connor or molden am not very happy about that move.
But I saw it coming, nothing I could do and I called off work for the draft!

They get SD #2 next year....but That should only move them up a few spots as SD will be drafting at the end of the round.

5th rounder is marginal as well at the end of the round, 50/50 to even make the team.

There are only so many available spots to be won on this team.

probably, but all it takes is an injury to LDT, or another suspension on merriman and who knows what could happen

They pick up an earlier fifth round pick than the one they gave up in the Saints trade and a second next year. If they're pleased with having "just" the two picks this round, then the fifth makes sure they aren't going two rounds without a pick this year and they get an extra first day pick next year.

This is a lousy trade. So they move up about 15 places in next year's draft and get a 5th rounder this year who probably won't make the team. I like the day one trade but I don't get this one.

It's a GREAT trade. To those of you who haven't closely followed how NE operates over the years: take note. This is classic BB-SP. They've set up the '09 draft in one masterstroke. Plus we've filled the only hole in today's draft. Plus we have another 3rd that'll be taken in a few minutes.

You didn't really expect them to take 3 players in this round, did you?

If you look at the trade this way. We basically got a 2 for moving back 3 spots.
We got a 3 to move back and gave up a 5. We got a 2 and a 5. Gave up a 3.
