I would hate to see us lose Moss.

Hopefully they already have an agreement on an extention.

If they let him go, I am going to be really disapointed. I do not want to go
back to the "waiver wire wide outs" of 2006.

I have my doubts on Maroney ever being a franchise back, so we better
hold on to Moss.

Hopefully Brady will put the heat on the Pats to get it done.

The idea of paying 32% more for my tickets and then watching Moss and Asanti walk really worries me.

I think it's pretty safe to say that your sentiment is universal.

More importantly, why don't you see Maroney ever developing into a feature back? I'd pretty strongly disagree with you on that- he may and he may not, but he's certainly shown the potential to get there, and there's no specific reason that I can see to believe that he won't.

Also, a lot of the national reporting is saying that the Pats and Moss already have a deal worked out, and are just waiting to sign it until they're allowed to.

Unless Moss was a huge distraction behind the scene's , and this whole off field issuie has merit.. I dont see Belichick not puting a franchise tag on Moss, with out a deal in place..

I pray you are right about Moss.

I like Maroney, but I just don't think he is the right back for the Patriots
system. He is use to running behind a fullback for a zone blocking OL.
He struggles in short yardage and he has not adjusted to the Patriots
system. They have started using the zone blocking scheme, and they
also used Evans as the lead blocker for Maroney. He is ok, but I just think
he is playing for the wrong team. He would be perfect for the Broncos.

Although I doubt they will draft him, I could see Johnathan Stewart the
RB from Oregon playing for the Pats. He reminds me of Corey Dillion.

Tell me this kid don't isn't a Patriots type of player.

The kid looks damn good, no doubt. I agree that Maroney isn't ideal for short yardage situations, but that's why we have Morris. The rest of the time, Maroney is versatile, explosive, and, if he gets any penetration, can be difficult to bring down.

As far as I can remember, the Patriots have been using some zone running plays for a few seasons already, at least dating back to 2003. I've watched Corey Dillon do some damage with zone blocking ahead of him.
What I did see sometimes this season that the blocking in front of him (Maroney) didn't penetrate enough, and the hole that was supposed to be there, got filled by a LB or DB before he could hit it. Backside pursuit also was pretty good when Maroney was stuck looking for his hole. This happens sometimes, on those kinds of plays. Morris was very effective on those straight ahead inside runs when he was there and healthy. We need to get back to that, because that combination was very effective in the first half of the season.

And back to Moss, I hope they are negotiating with him and his agent as we speak. But there seems to be some league rule that they can't announce a deal until the 29th of February. So, here's looking forward to good news on the 29th.

I'm happy we didn't franchise him.

I've wanted a long-term contract all along.

I've been hoping for a 3-4 year deal and I'm not that worried because I think the Patriots would be crazy to let Moss walk. If Moss did end up leaving, It would not be pretty.

nobody wants the pats to lose moss, i am sure he will be back

Once the 2007 "league year" ends around March 1st, then the Pats and/or Moss can announce the terms of their new deal, but not before.

Relax, people. Randy Moss will stay a Patriot.

Are the Pats prepared to make Moss one of the top 3 highest paid wide receivers in the NFL and for the years he wants since he expects this to be his last contract? Moss has already proved he still can play and that he has chemistry with Brady, but if there's one sticking point, it's going to be the # of years that he wants. No one would question if the Pats made Moss the highest paid receiver next year because he really can put up the numbers, but Moss is not a spring chicken anymore either.

I would be happen with ANY contract. Moss is THAT important. Of course a cheap, long contract would be ideal, they need to ultimately do what it takes to keep him. One question I have though, do incentives count against the cap?
