WCVB in court today over simulcast

This is false. DirecTV offered up $700 million a year to broadcast NFL Direct Ticket. Dish Network wasn't even half that number.

The NFL DID put it out for bid to all the cable companies. Again, none of them could/would match what DirecTV offered.

Maybe I was mistaken; wouldn't be the first time. I'll believe cable had or has a shot at the Ticket when I see it. From what I understand, CBS and particularly FOX are opposed to widespread Ticket availability and have a say in what deals get done. We'll see when the Direct TV deal expires.

Think about this for a minute people.
The person most directly responsible for the NFLN fiasco, the person running the NFL's Television Committee which had decided to air tomorrow's game EXCLUSIVELY on NFLN and to enforce the blackout throughout New England untill they caved to pressure from pols pandering to whiners is...

Robert Kraft

They are free to the people in the local areas as regulated by the FCC.

if it was on ESPN would it be free? I guess only if you have cable. But you missed my larger point you referenced in a later post.

That is your CHOICE. You don't HAVE to pay for DirecTV and you don't HAVE to live outside the broadcast area of the local games

You are correct it is my choice, and I am going to reconsider it next year since the total cost is around 340.

Everyone pays for ALL the advertising when they buy products. It doesn't matter if its while watching football or anything else. However, NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC and the WB can be found without having cable or direcTV in most areas.

I guess it really comes down to where you live again. and you are correct .... capitalism leeches off of all of us.

No it wouldn't. Please show me where it says that the games have to be commercial free to be considered FREE of charge?

Check out Sirius.

True socialism is VERY stupid. Why don't you move to China if you want socialism?

If you move to China you will get the most amped-up hyper-active capitalist society in the world right now. Absolutely no controls and no regulations at all on corporate activity. Lead paint on children's toys? No one cares.

For real insight into the last remaining socialist countries in the world, try all the Scandanavian countries (Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, etc.) and a place like France. Very high taxes, all social services are state controlled, as are utilities, even though the corporate sector is going great guns and productivity is very high. The Scandanavian countries make a lie out of those who claim that productivity is hurt when people have their social needs met by the state. It's just not true. In fact, there's just as much inefficiency in the American corporate system where a lot of money gets wasted for ludicrous fringe benefits to top executives.

How do you think Kerry and Leahy became aware of this issue? Politicians for the most part don't do anything without Public Opionion in their favor. There were enough complaints from the "lazy whiners' to justify in their minds their threats to the NFL. I am under the impression that while only 40% of the cable systems carry the NFL network if a non-lazy whiner really wanted the NFLN they could actually purchase a satellite which would cover the entire USA including Alaska and Hi and it has the NFLN.

Let's not forget that there are 12 Senators on the Communications committee, and Kerry and Leahy are two of them. They have direct oversight over broadcasting. This is not just random pandering. There are also other Senators on hat committee who have come at the NFL for the same thing recently. Of course there's pandering and then there's actually legitimate oversight.

You will not find an example of true socialism on a national level. The only pockets of true democratic socialism can be found in very small pockets on the community level --kibbutz's in Israel.

Good job by the Government  Threaten the NFL with congressional hearings and than Eff up the free market by penalizing the people who did the right thing (WCVB ,etc) But it's all good for the lazy, whiners they get to watch the Pats for free.

CPF, you forget to mention that our government already stepped in when they decided to "protect" the NFL from anti-trust laws. Although I'm glad they did this, don't act as if the government is over-bearing in one respect but fine in another. Either you are in favor of free markets or you are not.

If you are in favor of free markets, then the NFL can no longer be protected and it will crumble. If you call people who complained about the Pats/Giants game being exclusively on the NFL network, whiners, then you must call those who want the NFL to be protected from anti-trust laws Whiners too.

I was not aware of that PWP! That is a poor decision by Mr Kraft...very poor. I realize the NFL is a business, but let us hope Kraft doesn't get carried away with his own success as reflected in Patriot Place:rolleyes:

The government has allowed the NFL to negotiate TV contracts as a whole while splitting the proceeds among the entire league. That's it, nothing else. I could give a rat's ass if they pull the exemption and let every team negotiate it's own TV contracts. While were at it we should blow up the CBA and salary cap,too

In fairness to Kraft, he this week said that he did not use his influence to change the TV coverage because he had 31 other partners who at the beginning of the season agreed to give this particular game exclusively to the NFLN, none of them knowing it would be an historic game.

The governement also ALLOWS the NFL to exist as a monopoly. Which in case you forgot, is illegal.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the government has allowed this with all the major sports. the last thing we need is an AT&T type break-up.

It's not a monopoly in the sense MLB is, there have been other attempts at football leagues. XFL, WFL, etc.

How ironic that you're "whining" about millons of would-be "lazy-whiners" that each have individual circumstances and reasons as to why they don't have the NFL Network. Your "blanketing" the majority of the population with this statement is pretty "whiny" and ignorant.

And then the NFL would implode.

Parity makes this league what it is.

Pete Rozelle practically invented the word. He knew what he was doing.
