Rap: Mayo is the new HC

Former TN Vol, Former Pats player, and now HC. I don’t like the lack of experience but I’m going into this with some excitement. Need a hot shot GM and OC to support

That isn't what I said at all. An efficient offense doesn't mean score as few of points as possible. It means scoring points without turnovers and huge risks. But that style of offense doesn't score a lot of points compared to other wide open systems unless you have a QB like Brady who can be extremely efficient while still make big time plays.

You know that Belichick would much rather win a 6-3 game where the defense shutdown the opposing offense while turning the ball over a few times and the offense doesn't make any mistakes than a 34-31 game where his QB throws a pick or two and the opposing QB passes for 340 yards and 3 TDs.
@Jlaff's reply was to you making conjecture about BB's offensive philosophy and you managed to follow it up with even more conjecture that seems to have missed the forest for the trees. All coaches care about turnovers because it's the best predictor of winning or losing. A three point game is a three point game whether it's 6-3 or 100-97. Every drive is a game within the game. In the case of a 34-31 game with turnovers BB wouldn't like that because it says more about how the QB or players causing the turnovers need to improve.

This Bill is long gone unfortunately. Maybe he can find a bit of his old self again with a fresh start.

Agreed. A coach needs some personality. Screw the post game press conferences but the coach needs to connect with the players.

Mayo will connect. Hopefully Mayo and S. Belichick run the defense. Where will the offense come from?

Peter King looks and sounds like somebody killed his dog talking about Pats hiring Mayo.

Sounds so bitter.
King has been irrelevant for almost 2 decades now.

That, and who will pick the players, are the multi-million dollar questions.

I think the story behind the story is that belichick was already planning to retire within a couple of years. Mayo was the succession plan. They took a look, said we have to draft and play a rookie qb and accept a few years of struggle so let’s move up the timetable. Makes sense with the “mutual” part. Belichick wouldn’t be here long enough to develop the qb, and doesn’t have enough time left to revamp a team he won’t be here for when the qb is ready. Give Mayo his shot, and then after 2-3 losing seasons bring in the next guy who isn’t carrying the weight of replacing the GOAT.
If they are smart about using these 3 years with the intention of being good in year 4 or 5 it might work. If they don’t accept reality it could drag on a long time.

I agree with this, great post.

Especially on defense.

You know what there is a ton of this year in free agency? Pass rushers:

Chris Jones
Jonathan Greenard (13 sacks this year!)
Madubike
Denice Autry
Clowney
Christian Wilkins
Dorance Armstrong
Brian Burns
Chase Young
Josh Allen
Danielle Hunter
Leonard Floyd
Zadarius Smith
Bud Dupree

And that’s not even the full list. It worked out well splurging for Judon. I say let’s do it again.

If there's any splurging to be done, I'd like to first see it done if possible at Left Tackle & Wide Receiver; Outside CB too.

Nothing I wrote are the same thing people have been saying about Belichick and his philosophy of team building for nearly two and a half decades including people of inside knowledge of how Belichick builds a team. It isn’t conjecture. Anyone who has watched Belichick over 20 plus years knows how he builds a team.
