Here's how clueless Tom Curran is

I had 8-9 but most of us thought if this, that, and the other thing broke our way we might have hit 10 wins.

Clearly those went the other way and the things we were counting on such as Mac stabilizing and not cratering.
Agreed.. just think.. the way the AFC has shaped up.. with injuries ect. Had we been 8-9, or on that trajectory we could have had a real shot to make the playoffs... however lucky to have even 2 wins.

Gets a pass from me on this one. That was from last May, just after the schedule came out. Let they who predicted two wins before the bye cast the first stone.

The more I think about this, the more I think it’s two key things:

1. Mac has truly been historically bad in his ability to overcome adversity. Is it all his fault? Of course not. Do I think he has proven a shocking lack of mental toughness? 100%.

2. The O-line and skill talent that Bill put out there is also historically bad, and does make the case that either: he’s lost his grip on evaluating how to win in 2023, OR he willfully ruined the offense in some sort of odd spite play.

Last part is tough to believe, so likely that he just doesn’t know how to evaluate offensive players in 2023.

Finally, I think a case can be made that we have the overall least talented coaching staff in the NFL.

A few good ones sure, but mostly meh.

For everyone saying they knew we were a 2-4 win team this year, link your post. Aside from a handful of folks who are perpetually negative, very few had the season going as a complete and utter dumpster fire.

If you look up my prediction, I had us a 9-8. Seems the consensus in that thread is 7-9 wins. Only 4% said less than 6.

If the search engine on this site was more simple and easy to use, posters would be a lot more honest here.

But you're correct, the same negative Nancys who said we had no talent back in 2014, 2016 and 2018 have never wavered...

What is it they say about a broken clock?

This is revisionism. Outside of a few clowns (i dont care, i cant stand it) there were very few people who were down on the talent in those years. How could you be? They were loaded…people would gripe about some of the finer points, and some units, but not about the overall talent level of the team. There aren’t many people here who didn’t appreciate the dynasty years.

I hear ya. I actually went to Google to find my post.

I admit I mentioned 10,11 wins myself.. geeesh.. was I way off.. this team is lucky to have 2 wins!
Meh hindsight is 20/20. No reason to believe we'd keep imploding even further with a real coaching staff compared to last year. Should've at worst kept treading water at around .500

I went out on a limb and thought they could win 10 (LOL). New coaching staff, rejuvinated Mac, top D. Knowing the OL could be suspect I still thought they could come together and gel quick. They opened against Philly and played them tough, though nobody expected them to win. Then it started going downhill. Injuries and an OL that was in disarray, poor qb decisions, questionable play calls for offense, extremely poor luck with penalties and zebra calls and that sums up the season.

I was never a believer in Mac and thought we would miss the playoffs but I thought we were good for 7-9 wins this year. I did not think we would suck so bad.

I predicted we finished last and said I didn’t see enough offense I had us at 4 and 13 3 and 14 I think I said I only see a handful of winnable games.

When the offense was struggling so bad in camp and preseason I knew it was going to be a long year.
Love how they took the preseason games off too... Who needs practice.
Let's blame it on injuries

Mac blew last year.. the defense gifted alot of points to the offense

I had them having a losing record overall but not this awful. I said most likely they would be anywhere from a 6 win to 8 win team. And if Mac really broke out, then they could maybe hit a ceiling of 10 wins. But that was only if Mac played at an elite level.

However at the time, I knew our offense would suck. I didn't expect the defense and special teams to be as bad. That's really what bottomed us out this year. If you assumed we just stayed even with last year, then we probably were a 7 win team. I didn't expect the decline everywhere else.

Most of us were at 7 wins.

He predicted 10-11 wins and said the 2023 patriots are a good football team.
This is the supposed football and patriots expert.

"I'm bullish on the Patriots in 2023. They're going to win 10, 11 or maybe even 12 games. They're going to be a good football team."

Many of us had the pats for 6 or less wins and 1000% knew they would be very very bad this year.
So I do not think Curran knows what he is talking about. How the he'll could he not see this train wreck coming down the tracks
I did the same thing back in May, because while I didn't expect Mac to be a league MVP, I didn't expect the complete other end of the spectrum. I was counting on him at least being as good as he was during his rookie year with Bill O'Brien in his corner and thought 10-11 games was possible. With that in mind, I figured, with this defense, they would have been adequate if they could have put up points and a few upsets could have seen things go their way.

Tom is far from "clueless" - hence the reason why he's as stunned as the rest of us that they're this horrific and he's not afraid to say it. I'm certainly far more clueless than he is, and I also didn't expect Mac to become a guy who has completely lost the ability to play the position. Yet, here we are.

I love Curran; he is the real deal. Compared him to the afternoon radio idiots; Curran is a gentleman, well spoken and informative. I love the way he politely tried to correct Adam Jones (about firing BB immediately).

Give Curran a break; he is one of the best Patriots reporters.

It used to be that in the Old Days, the Dennis and Callahan days, the Patriots reporting was terrible. Now with guys like Curran, we actually have some insightful coverage.

Because he was too scared to say what he really thought. He only waits to pour it on the Pats when someone else says it first like Volin did.
What/who was Curran afraid of?

I didn't think they'd have a winning record but plenty of fans thought they might. I had them at 7 or 8 wins and none of us saw this disaster coming. WTF happened?

As a writer it must be difficult to cover a team like the 23 Pats without stepping on toes. Maybe that's what @TheRainMaker meant in a previous post about Curran being afraid.

I like him but I don't get the Tom E. Curran thing. Why not just Tom Curran or Tommy?

75% of this board had the pats as 8 or more wins.
