I don't see an equivalency between killing dogs and taping signs during a game, nor do I see an equivalent organization to PITA and the animal rights folks that will be able to stir up sufficient public outrage on behalf of the poor coaches to get BB fired. Maybe Victims of Voyeurism, but I'm not sure how much pull they have. Most Pats fans don't give a cr@p and those are the only opinions that matter.

Vick committed multiple felonies, punishable by imprisionment. Belichick broke a competition committee rule. I can't believe someone as intelligent as Greg Easterbrooke would fail to make that distinction.

Furthermore, it's ridiculous to say that the NFL thought the Vick thing was going to blow over. Please. Vick committed real crimes and prosecutors tend to take law breaking seriously. Even if the NFL wanted to protect Vick, they couldn't.

Looks like someone already changed some of it. The comment before the link now says: "The Patriots made cheating a focal point for our most popular sport, setting it up for a huge fall. And Roger Goodell knows it. Don't be surprised if Bill Belichick doesn't last the season."

10 minutes ago, it said "The Patriots brought cheating to our most popular sport, setting it up for a huge fall.

That line blew me away, as if this was the first rule broken in the history of the NFL.

This is just getting plain ridiculous, no other way around it.

why wouldnt it have tons of readers? besides NE...what place in the USA wouldnt want to see the Pats dismanlted?

"But San Diego's new defensive coordinator, Ted Cottrell, was defensive coordinator for the Bills and Jets, both AFC East teams, in the Belichick period. Perhaps Belichick has spied on Cottrell's calls before and took out the tapes of the spying rather than handing them over as Goodell demanded. Was New England cheating again Sunday night, when the Patriots advanced the ball with such ease it seemed they knew what defense San Diego would be in?"

Dear Mr. Easterbrook,

Don't you think D Coords change their signals often?

If you don't, you're an imbecile.

Why? Simple. Because players move from team to team year to year. In almost every game this year, Cottrell will be facing enemy players who used to play under him in Buffalo and NY.

I hope this realization doesn't make your head hurt too hard.

If he actually watched the football game, he would have seen in depth coverage on how they were calling the plays of a wrist chart, and changed the wrist chart throughout the game.

What has been exposed here?
An "NFL WRITER" has been exposed as not even watching the only game on at the time, which was billed as maybe the best game of the year.
What was this guy doing instead of watching the game? Shouldn't he abandon his right to comment on it?

If the media has there way

I was going to start a thread titled "don't read TMQ."

It's over-the-top and reactionary. A lot of it is pretty baseless. He even accuses NE of cheating in the Chargers game (because teams don't change signals between seasons or anything). It's just sad.

After those accusation I just skipped ahead to what he said about the actual games. No reason to read that trash.

If the media succeeded in distorting this story so that millions of fans truly think the Patriots won because of cheating, then there could be repercussions. But, while some fans will rationalize the inferiority of their team by always blaming the other team, I think most fans understand the Pats are really good, it's a game, and that Belichick violated the rules in a game where rules violations are part of the game.

For instance, should we suspend coaches who tell the CBs that it's better to get a pass interference penalty ithan let the WR score a touchdown? That's a rules violation, too, and it's one that can lead to injuries and affect the score.

My God, what a tool. I think every writer should be forced to issue a disclaimer at the beginning of their articles about this that discloses how much they hate Belichick. This guy thinks he's smart, and is probably pissed that Belichick makes him look like a mental midget.

And Christ, somebody get him an editor. Who would read all that??

Honestly, isn't this starting to get a wee bit into "libel" territory?

For the sake of accuracy, can a mod change the title of this thread, which states that this is an opinion espoused by ESPN, and not one of its columnists.

If an anchor had said this, or it had been written in an ESPN.com news article, you could claim that this was the editorial view espoused by the network.

It wasn't. It was an opinion espoused by a weekly columnist. Yes, ESPN is milking it for page views on their front page, but that's their job.

Stop and reflect for a moment people. Given what you know about Belichick and the Patriots and contrast that with what you read about them in a concerted effort by the media to discredit EVERYTHING they've ever done. Then think about other issues like international and national news, science reporting (my particular field & beef) and how the media piles on wholesale and as a consequence of the 24/7 presentation of their message how everyone comes to believe the mainstream media viewpoint, except for a few. A sobering perspective on the sad state of journalism.

I was waiting for TMQ's take on this issue and am now very disappointed. But not surprised since he equated people who murder dogs to deer hunters in a previous column just to attempt to prove his point.

What a tool. I am now done with him as well.

This is bigger than the gambling scandal of Lombardi's Packers? That's what he is saying.

He is implying that RG would ban BB from the league?!

For you DTV owners you can "suspend" your service as any time after the season for up to 9-months. I plan on doing this. I am pretty much done with the media after this. Read a book.

Wasn't this the clown who was kicked off ESPN a few years back for his anti-semitic harangue? Maybe HE should have been "banned" from writing about the NFL again. ***clown.
Yes that was him. The exact quote is as follows... it seems ESPN was simply hoping time would make people forget... anyway...

"Disney's CEO, Michael Eisner, is Jewish; the chief of Miramax, Harvey Weinstein, is Jewish. Yes, there are plenty of Christian and other Hollywood executives who worship money above all else, promoting for profit the adulation of violence. Does that make it right for Jewish executives to worship money above all else, by promoting for profit the adulation of violence? Recent European history alone ought to cause Jewish executives to experience second thoughts about glorifying the killing of the helpless as a fun lifestyle choice." - Gregg Easterbrook

Wrong. That is ESPN's bag of dog doody. They own it, it's on them.

ESPN chose to pay Easterbrook for this column. They are responsible for the views expressed by him on their site.

Completely different from a fansite like this. Ian isn't paying anyone here (insert joke) and has a more limited responsibility for what is written on the messageboards.

Holy ****!

I never read that. I'm speechless.

Not as much journalism per se, but the way the Internet has changed things. The line between legitimate reporting and off-the-cuff opinionating has been blurred via "blogging." It's no wonder people are confused and upset by what they read. It used to be a reporter's job to separate wheat from chaff and present us with the facts. Now, the reader has to sort through a lot of garbage to discern substance and meaning, and it's a royal pain in the arse. The Internet's lure of "immediacy" and lack of accountability is the primary culprit.
