You'd think so, but some crazy **** (well, mostly first degree murder) gets passed off as self defense, especially in the South. My money says he gets off scot free, or something relatively cushy like involuntary manslaughter.
Well the cops did release him today, so your last sentence may be very prophetic.

The let the guy go free immediately????? This is about to get way worse........

Ronald Gasser: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

"....While Fox New Orleans reports, citing witnesses, that McKnight was “pulled from” his Audi by the suspect prior to the shooting. The New Orleans Advocate quotes a witness saying that she heard four shots in total."

Not to make this a political discussion, but part of the problem is the proliferation of guns and this is to be expected when everyone carries a gun. The problem with a gun is that before when people got mad and possibly irrational they might have taken a swing at someone and a black eye might be the result. However when either party now has a gun available, a moment of irrational behavior goes to a place where no one comes back from.

For good or bad, we are a gun culture that has been built on fear and incidents like this should be shocking. Unfortunately, they should be expected. Stuff like this sad incident are going to continue and become routine. Remember you just have to THINK your in danger, and you have the right to shoot first.

Now there are many, many responsible gun owners, probably a vast majority. I don't worry about those people, but as gun ownership expands that small minority expands too.

BTW- while I have my own personal opinion about this issue, I don't post this to question the right or wrong of it. Just to point out that this kind of this kind of incident is now here to stay. To quote a great philosopher, "it is what it is".

The gun grabber philosophy is the reason that our pilots on 9/11 were defenseless against box cutters and thousands of innocent men women and children were murdered.

One gun at Ohio State saved many lives.

The people are the problem, not the guns.

This is why I hate road rage, you never know when some one will take it too far because they feel "threatened." Makes me so sad.

I am interested to hear the rest of the story. Seems odd to me that they released the guy, but the DA may still bring charges. Seems like preliminarily they are using stand you ground. Probably similar to the case that happened in my neighbor hood here in FL. Dude's mouth wrote a check his ass couldn't cash, got scared and shot the dude he was instigating. As a responsible gun owner/carrier, I would like to be able to defend myself If I am attacked by a rapist or robber but the law needs some work. Too many people take advantage of it in the wrong situations...

IIRC, he was the guy who beat out Woodhead for a spot, making Woodhead available to the Pats.

What if the terrorist had one gun???

The terrorist only had a knife.

THAT'S what saved lives.

I'm glad the cop had a gun. That's what killed the terrorist.

Imagine if the terrorist had a gun.

No ifs or imaginations for me.

The pilots on 9/11 were disarmed by the gun grabbers and the attackers only needed box cutters to murder thousands of innocent people that day.

So sad and senseless. RIP.

Well, I just listened to NOLA's press conference on the shooting. The only thing they would say is that the accounts saying that Gasser was over top of McKnight saying "You shouldn't have messed with me." is not true. And that there were 3 shots fired and all casings were located inside Gasser's vehicle. They called for peace as they do a very thorough investigation to see if charges are warranted. They have not spoken to all witnesses and will not comment further until they do.

I have a hard time imagining that a bullet (potentially) flying through the cabin of a pressurized aircraft at ~35,000 feet would ever be considered safe.

Simply put, short of idiocy that the mind cannot even fathom, there has to be some reason they released this guy.

If you read this to mean I agree with it, that's not what I mean. I mean that with the fact that it's a former NFL player, that there have been a LOT of protests and violence around the treatment of minority and minority victims that I have to believe that the only logical reason why they'd let this guy go right now is that there's information we don't have (or at the very least that I haven't read) because I mean, I have to assume even the biggest racist police chief in the world isn't gonna let off some rando for a high profile shooting just because of skintone.

And I'm not saying McKnight wasn't the victim here, ultimately, either, I just can't imagine this guy walking away without more reason.

I saw video of a cop shooting an unarmed guy in the neck who was just climbing out of his overturned car, holster it, then call in to say the suspect wasn't responding to orders to get out of the car ... and he had no charges filed against him.

Don't underestimate people.

It's truly mind boggling.
