That's the gif I'd use in response to someone suggesting James White or Tyler Gaffney has any chance of rushing for 200+ yards...in one season. Seriously, what delusions do you have about these RBs? They're trash except for receiving.

I hoped he would be our long term running back.
It seems the Pats don't think "long-term" when it comes to running back. Except for the occasional rarity like Kevin Faulk (himself a third-round specialist), they don't last long around here. I wonder if they felt burned by the Maroney experience and figured RB henceforth would be a "utility" position.

Ridley was trash the season leading up to tearin his knee, he was a blackhole of a contract with the jets, and he couldn't make a lions team with serious questions at RB, and you think he'd be top 2 here?

Dude wasn't even top two here when he was decent. I would have rather had lawfirm running, than this salsa fumble machine.

honestly i'd rather have no running backs then waste a roster spot of Ridley.

Worst case, he's cut in a week. Best case, it's another Pat Chung situation.

I seriously thought we had found our bellcow for the next 10 years after 2012 so I would be all for kicking the tires. That said Ridley has never been the guy to take it to the house or get lots of yards in the open field. With Brady we don't need that but we do need that guy who can consistently get 3-8 yards and keep the down and distance on track. Can he be that guy anymore? I don't know....maybe that knee injury robbed him of the little speed he had, maybe he is a slow healer and isn't 100% yet but being cut by the jets AND the lions? Eh I am not optimistic

He's done.

So was Chung. I don't think, especially due to injuries, that Ridley will ever be better than he was the first time around (or even 3/4 as good). But when Chung came back, it was received exactly the same way a Ridley signing would be today. Some players just thrive in very specific environments. Considering that we already know there are no viable rushers behind Blount (and his viability is questionable in itself), why not start taking extremely low risk fliers like this? The absolute worst case scenario is that things remain the same. The dude wouldn't even want any guaranteed cash.

Chung wasn't done. Chung just wasn't any good at his job. It's no accident that he began to look good when he was taken out of his role and given different, and much more limited, duties.

With Ridley, his knee and/or mind hasn't/haven't recovered from the injury. That's a big difference.

Elijah I think BB has to have his eyes on some RB on some team after the final cuts. I am also worried about what we have after Blount who's not exactly all that these days. For a young Player like Jimmy G. taking the reigns for teh First time a quality RB would help. Surprised we didn't go after Arian Foster.

What?

If you were talking about 600 yards I would probably agree with you but 200 yards? Even White who can't run to save his life can get that , Gaffney I am pretty sure can pass 200 yards if given some carries per game.

Can Blount make it thru an entire season? Bring him in and see of he has anything left.

I know we are straying from the topic here, but I have been impressed at how Chung has expanded his role in terms of coverage which was a real big knock his first time around.

I don't think Ridley is the answer. Quite sure Foster is not. Doubt Gaffney is, but I would give him a season to prove me wrong. Hoping our fourth running back beyond Blount, White and Boldin is not on the team yet.

Still laughing at "salsa fumble machine"! That's both sad (because it's true) and hilarious (because the Pats got rid of him). To some of the others in this thread, it's time to move on. He wasn't very good when he was here the first time, and he's worse and more worn down now.

I'd rather re-sign Jonas my Brother Gray than the Riddler.
