Messi @ Foxborough

Messi's ability to create space where there is none is something. I wouldn't be surprised to find out he's a football savant because his ability to read the play and run into space before the ball has been delivered is out of this world. Add clinical finishing skills and you have someone who can be considered the equal of Maradonna and Pelé.
Seems then that world football has the same problem as NFL football, GOATs show up once a generation, and there's far more franchises than there are "franchise quarterback" level players.

Messi is the GOAT. International football doesn't matter to that. It's not anywhere near as big as it was back in the day. The best and most competitive football is the CL which Messi has done well in regularly.

Also I've watched him, Ronaldo, Mascherano, Ronaldinho, Henry etc play live. Messi is the best

chung got the idea

(hope jimmy doesnt get nervous...)

Hell hes still #2 Argentinian GoAT behind Maradonna and I think he always will be.

Meh, Maradona had (so far) the greater international career, Messi has had the greater club career. Maradona did some wonderful stuff at Napoli, but it doesn't compare to Messi's brilliance at Barca.

If Messi wins the Cup he'll surpass him.

Right now he has a big hole in his resume.

International competition absolutely still means something when evaluating how a player rises to the biggest stage and performs under pressure.

Dude, Barca is a juggernaut. This run that they've had is the best the sport as ever seen.

That same team also had Puyol, Pique, Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta, and those guys won 2 Euro's and a WC with Spain.

Messi is great, but he's not a one man wrecking machine.

I never claimed that he was a one man wrecking machine, simply that his club career has been better.

And I'm saying look who he's had around him.

Messi was winning all those Balon D'ors when some of those years Xavi and Iniesta were just as deserving.

Nahhhhh..Platini never won what Zidane did.

Not to mention, here's what I do agree with @FCB02062 is Zidane had a knack for scoring goals in the biggest games.

Zidane was the man.

Funny that you are discrediting Messi due to his supporting cast when Zidane had a far greater national team supporting cast than Platini ever did (and Platini willed his country to a Euro win at that).

Its not discrediting Messi when the core of his Barca teams were winning a World Cup and multiple Euro cups.

Messi is the best player in a team of juggernauts. If that's discrediting than this world gone soft.

Same with Zidane. He's won the biggest trophy's a player can win, he was THE MAN in all of them, and he scores in the biggest games. Not to mention he was a magician with the ball.

Platini was great, but Zidane is in another class.

I respect your opinion, but we'll just agree to disagree on this one. No question Zizou was a beast though.

Yeah the supporting cast is/was pretty much the same...
