2nd #60 - LB
Mayo gone, Ninko getting old, Hightower, Ninko and Collins are up for contracts in 2017. Not the deepest draft for LB so take one now.

2nd # 61 - DE
No Jones or Easley. Deep draft for DE, but need a playmaker who can make an impact this year. Revisit this position at # 96

3rd # 90 - WR
Need some youth and this draft is supposed to have good WR talent deep into latter rounds.

Are they all impact players?

2nd #60 - RB - Kenneth Dixon
This isn't a rushing league anymore but its still very helpful to have a young, talented RB to help balance out the offense. Brady is almost 39, so anything that can take some pressure off, even if he doesn't need it, will only help the offense as a whole be more productive

2nd # 61 - DT -- Javon Hargrave or OT -- Joe Dahl
Malcolm Brown is great, but Branch is up there in age and Knighton is a 1 year rental.. and i don't have a lot of confidence in guys like Vellano or Kuhn having to step into a bigger role due to an injury... or 2....

OT because Vollmer is getting up there and has had some injuries start to accumulate more and more these last few years.. Solder is a solid tackle, but his long term future is still unclear with 2016 being his last under contract with the team. At worse, this pick could hopefully be groomed to take 1 of the 2 tackle positions, and in the mean time be that Swing tackle that Cannon has failed miserably at so far

3rd # 90 - WR -- Braxton Miller or CB -- Sean Davis
Still need a big, outside WR... Dobson has disappointed, Nate Washington isn't a long term answer..

Corner with the assumption that they lock Butler up long term.. Logan Ryan is solid on the other side but hes a FA after this year and might get seriously paid in FA.. which could net us a 4th or 3rd comp pick in 2018.. We have Roberts and Coleman.. one of them would need to step up into that #2 role, but Coleman might be better suited as a nickle corner.. Beyond those guys though, this group is not deep at all

Other Positions
DE -- I don't think we're in horrible shape at DE for the 2016 season.. i guess a lot will depend on if any of the 3 rookies they got last year in Grissom, Flowers or Johnson can step into a larger role.. but in the mean time, having Chris Long, Jabaal Sheard and Rob Ninkovich is not an awful thing,.. thats a pretty solid group, and Hightower/Collins are very effective inside blitzers as well, so I think we'll be able to generate pressure

LB -- Linebacker is in need of some depth, but we also have 2 studs in Hightower and Collins.. not a lot of defenses can say that about their linebacking group.. but yes, we certainly need to increase the depth of this position, I just would't put it as a TOP priority with 2 studs as starters, plus a veteran in McClellin, plus Bostic who we traded for last year and appears to be still in the plans... and Freeny was ok last year, with another training camp under him he can hopefully improve into a quality starter/rotational LB

People say it isn't rushing league anymore. All things cycle back. BB is usually ahead of the curve so possibly a high pick RB is exactly what the doctor ordered.

#60 - CB/safety Davis of Maryland. Tremendous hitter with speed and a blazing 3 cone time. Needs technique help.

#61 - dt hargrave sc state. Knighton and branch are older and on passing downs, this guy is sudden.

#91 - safety/lb killebrew southern Utah. He makes plays and can contribute on special teams until he learns the defense.

#96 - ot haeg nd state. I have lost all faith in cannon and fleming.

60 - Hassan Ridgeway

61 - Le'Raven Clark

91 - Jonathan Williams

96 - Cyrus Jones

alternatively

60 - Hassan Ridgeaway

61 - Sean Davis

91 - Jonathan Williams

96 - Joe Haeg or Kyle Murphy

I don't follow college ball enough to have specific names but the only glaring need a starting caliber player where a rookie might contribute spot is RB. Luckily that just happens to be the position with the smallest learning curve as it is more instinct and ability with the ball in your hand. If there is a 220ish lb guy that can get 3-6 yards consistently there at 60/61 sign me up. After that finding a swing tackle and a penetrating 3 tech for depth and future starter possibility are the next highest priorities on my list. Then in the 6th throw as much at the wall as you can hoping someone sticks at CB LB RB and WR.

Safety, tight end, guard. ;)

With BB... who knows... it could happen. o_O
So true, I think all these RB meet and greets are just a smokescreen. Wouldn't be surprised if they wait to pick a RB until rounds 6 & 7. All early picks will be in the trenches, non sexy picks, but that's how you win, in the trenches.

I don't see NE going defense with both second round picks.

1. CB - Hard to find CB's in later rounds and I personally would like to find a possible starting prospect with decent size. Eli Apple for example. 6-1 and decent speed. It's basically a move to find good quality depth.

2. DT/DE - Defense wins championships. Keep up the pressure up front and watch the secondary, with another year under their belt, ruin the QB's day.

3. O line - I expect that the Oline will improve with Fleming and Mason on their second year, without the injury carousel we saw last year and with Scar coming back to right the ship. I would still like to add depth.

IMO, the running game will improve by benefiting from an improved O line. I would not take a RB with one of the top picks.

Edit: An improved O line will give Brady more time to throw. A deep threat would be nice but Brady needs time to throw it in order to take advantage of that threat. Brady getting time to find his 3rd read would be much more beneficial than a deep threat. IMO.

Man, you are SO wrong. What a boneheaded set of picks.
It'll be Safety, tight end, center.
Get your head on straight.

Doesn't matter, Belichick the GM sucks. His only good picks were Brady and Gronk and everyone knew they would be great. But, they of course were uh set at QB and TE.

60 - the best of RB Henry, WR Boyd, WR, Shepherd, RB Dixon
61 - OT LeRaven Clark
91 - DT Maliek Collins (unless Hargrave is still available)
96 - DE Charles Tapper

I hope they don't draft a RB until the 6th.

1st sim, using CBS board:

60 - OG Christian Westerman
61 - OT LeRaven Clark

While Will Fuller was available in the sim I just ran, he almost certainly won't be there next Friday so I left him there and I'm not a huge fan of other wide receivers available in this slot. I don't think any of the running backs available are worth it; the drop-off from the likes of Henry, Dixon, or Booker to the guys you'd see in the 3rd or even 6th is not steep at all, and it's not a premium position. Give me some mean maulers on the line.

Other possibilities: OG Joshua Garnett; OT Shon Coleman; OLB Joshua Perry; EDGE Kyler Fackrell; CB Sean Davis

91 - LB Jaylon Smith
96 - WR Braxton Miller

After grabbing some big uglies in the second, I go all-in on potential here. The Patriots can afford to take a chance that Smith returns to dominance, because he was a safe Pro Bowl-caliber player before his injury. I'm not too worried about the Patriots depth at wide receiver right now because I think Nate Washington will be a better replacement for LaFell, so Miller makes sense as a guy to groom for the future.

Other possibilities: DE Bronson Kaufusi; WR Leonte Caroo; WR Pharoh Cooper; DT Adolphus Washington; CB Cyrus Jones

This draft left me weak at two positions I'd like to see the Patriots draft: CB and defensive line, but I wouldn't be unhappy with it.

In the 6th round I took: CB Tavon Young; RB Keenan Reynolds; DE DJ Pettway; ILB Steven Daniels; and DT David Onyemata. Young and Daniels would be absolute highway robbery in the 6th.

2nd sim, using Fanspeak board:

60 - DT Chris Jones
61 - LB Joshua Perry

Here I take care of the defense, giving me two players I'd consider very good values at their draft position. Perry's a safe pick and can step in right away, while we barely miss out on the chance to have two players named Chris Jones on the interior line.

91 - OG Connor McGovern
96 - WR Rashard Higgins

I get a guy with a mick name who can play all along the line and one of my favorite wide receiver prospects in the class in this round. I'm still missing a corner.

In round 6, I end up with: OT Caleb Benenoch; CB Cre'von LeBlanc; RB Wendell Smallwood; S Justin Simmons; and C Isaac Seumalo.

Some of these draft boards don't make a lot of sense. Justin Simmons and Isaac Seumalo would be a huge steal in the 6th, and I wouldn't be shocked to see them in the 2nd.

If they could walk away in this draft with.

Jonathan Bullard - DT
La'Raven Clark - OT
Will Redmon - CB

I would be very very happy

Bullard is the closest thing in this draft you will find to Easley and he doesn't have an injury history. I think we need to trade up for him. If a 2nd and a 3rd can get it done i do.

Clark is my fav OT in this draft we can get. I like him more than Spriggs maybe even.

Will Redmon is a good CB and while i like a few guys better he can possibly be had in the 3rd.
