Because they'll play him on the edge exclusively and he can pin his ears back and rack up a ton of sacks this year. He'll probably get the second largest massive contract for a defensive player next FA after Miller.

You are saying AZ will use him better than NE and have more of an opportunity to showcase his talents more there.

Not buying it.

Doesn't BB prioritize setting the edge more than pure pass rush?

Either way I imagine you could make a case that Chandler will have better sack stats this year because of who else is on that defense and sack stats are always sexier than 'successfully contained the running game'.

fixed-term or month-to-month?

The DT designation can be changed to DT-HELOC.

We really need a Belichick Gif of him shopping for groceries.

Put a bunch of players sitting on the shelves.

Did someone prank BB and give him a trick calendar?

Maybe he thinks it's August rather than April.

I agree but I don't he will necessarily make more money in FA just because he was in AZ with higher sack totals than here.

If Jones had another 12 sack year and a great playoff run on the way to a SB here he'd make the same amount of money if he had 14 sacks in AZ.

It's the Patriot shine....

Bill wants guys that can set the edge and be disciplined there against the run, we all know that but he's trying to make it sound like Jones was limited by Belichick's defensive philosophy. Which is complete ********. Maybe on QBs that can run he wants his edge guys to contain.

Does this look like a guy that wasn't allowed to pin his ears back and go after the QB with the Pats?

I mean not sure how it's gonna be any different in Arizona for him. Maybe playing as a 3-4 OLB gets him a few more sacks but he's still going to be going up against LTs.

Wow really? Maybe Bill has decided he just isn't going to use DT's anymore.
Yeah, he's going for tight ends. About a dozen of them, all trained to play multiple positions including blocking tight end.

Man.. i am going to miss Jones though... just stinks to draft players like him and then have to say goodbye because of salary cap constraints.. its a pretty nice problem to have though, drafting/signing too many good players that you can't afford to give them all the contracts they deserve

Nope ... blocking TE's who block for blocking TE's .... blocking TE² and blocking TE³

the latest developments indicate the Patriots will invest some draft money in DT again, I'm ok with that, needs to stock DT again at the position after the Easley bust.

He may be back and the Pats actually claimed him off waivers.

Yep. I don't think he'll be any better there than he was here.

God help him if he's worse then people will think that BB knew how to get the most out of him and question if they could do the same.

Jones will definitely be better in AZ. He clearly wasn't put in the best position here, most people around here thought the guy more or less sucked. In the AFCC against Denver they played almost exclusively a 3-4 and played Jones almost exclusively inside at 3-4 DE. That's out of position for him and putting him in a situation to fail. Leads people to say he "disappeared" or "didn't show up" when really he was just used improperly at times by the Patriots coaching staff. That won't happen in Arizona.

Belichick must love this DT class.
You're probably right. This is a deep DT class. The rest of the position groups suck but there's a lot of quality at DT that will be available by the end of the 2nd.

You have got to be kidding me.

In 2015 Jones had 12 sacks, an INT, forced 4 fumbles and made the Pro Bowl. If he improves on that he will be a DPOY candidate.

Maybe over the years BB did put him in some alignments or responsibilities that were not ideal but in the 4 years he was here Chandler was a pretty productive player. His disappearing during stretches is all on him. Great players get a rush on from the edge consistently.

With that said Chandler Jones is not that caliber of player and will never be.

To say that BB/Patricia misused him is a ridiculous statement.

Some of the inconsistency was on him and his injuries some was also definitely on Belichick playing him out of position at times.

There is no question BB has put players in situations that they were not greats fits for. Using Jones in the NASCAR vs MIA in 2014 was experimental and did not work. Using Chung the way they did in his first stint here was also mixed. There was reasoning behind the moves. He did learn from them and adjusted. You can say that it is very, very rare that this team misuses players.

I agree with the "at times" but to say that BB misused Chandler Jones often doesn't resonate. There is too lengthy of a successful track record for Jones here and how BB deployed him to say he was miscast in this defense.

The guy averaged 10 sacks and 3 forced fumbles a year here which is very good. More than that is Von Miller and he isn't that caliber of player. What more do you want?

I don't mean Jones was miscast here in general, he was usually playing his correct 4-3 DE position. But there were times they had him out of position like in this past AFCC game. I recently re-watched it and it pissed me off seeing them play him inside at 3-4 DE nearly all game long. It makes no sense to put him inside there where he's undersized against the run and can't use his athleticism/talent to edge rush the QB. If he played his right 3-4 OLB position in that scheme he could have made the 1 or 2 huge plays we needed to win that game. What more I would have wanted is for them to never play Jones inside in a base defense.

The first thing Arizona said is they're going to play him at rush 3-4 OLB. They're not going to dink around with a talent like Jones. They're going to cut him loose and let him make plays.

Meh. You are going to believe what you want to.

You can find faults with Bill for a number of things but not maximizing a player's talents and production isn't one of them.

I just don't see AZ using him better than NE did.

Or ****ing hated Easley.

Edit: Actually I can't imagine the Belichick that we know and love making roster choices predicated on getting a player at a certain position. He definitely seems to be more on the 'value' side of the Need vs. Value drafting spectrum.
Nah. BB would trade him to Cleveland or Detroit for a handshake if he hated him :D.
