Well there goes the money they got from Ferguson retiring, just to replace him...

Don't see how they're gonna be able to sign Fitz.

Still think the Kap talk is hilarious. Guy can't hardly throw an accurate football, and you want to put him in Denver with the altitude. Riiiiight.

Good!

Costs the Rats a draft pick and lessens the chances they pick an OT before the Pats.

Actually isn't Clady's contract and cap hit higher than Ferguson's by 1.5million? So instead of having a guy who never missed a game, they gave up a draft pick and more money for a guy coming off an ACL. Typical Jets logic..

Good luck signing a QB now. LMAO!

OHHH Man. If that's true. Wow.

Unless he redoes his contract the cap hit is set at about 9.5 million.

Right. Would be a great move in most other situations, except maybe ours unless Solder, Vollmer, or Clady would have been willing to move inside.

So Ferguson had a cap hit of 14.1 million. When he retired the Jets received 9 million in cap space and lost the additional 5 million to dead cap space. IOW, unless Clady restructures his deal the Jets basically used all the cap space the saved from Ferguson's retirement. So they are back to figuring out how to sign Fitz.

Cut Wilkerson? Hehehehehehhehehehe...yeah, I'm enjoying this.

Oh yeah, I'm figuring Wilk is definitely gone. Writing was on the wall ever since Williams was drafted. Regardless of whether or not Fitz is re-signed.

The clown show continues in the Big Apple.....

Word is Clady did restructure. Waiting for details.

Fitz? If re-signed I'm sure it'll be from the space created from trading Wilk. Though I'm still not against trading Wilk and using the resulting better pick and cap space for other needs and rolling with Geno. Or maybe even keeping Wilk and figuring out a long-term deal.

(Odds are Wilk is gone though. Could be draft day trade.)

Looks like Maccagnan is trying to get Executive of the Year two years in a row.

It's not a bad idea. I mean they can still draft a tackle, but the potential of a healthy Clady outweighs the average return from a 5th-round pick so as much as I hate the Jets, it's not a bad idea.

The Fitzpatrick deal might not need more money. It just needs the market to not do something stupid. Fitzpatrick can wait it out for a while, but if nobody else makes a move and all the musical chairs fill up, he's out of a starting job so he can either take the Jets offer and start or take less as a backup elsewhere. Denver won't give him the contract he wants, so I do think the Jets are playing this the right way.

If nothing else though, it shows that the "cap is crap" crowd is silly. Big off-season spend last year and they're stuck playing hardball with a journeyman QB and potentially trading away their franchise tag player just to have enough money to sign their rookies. You can defer the cap hits for a bit, you can manipulate it, but it's not total crap and you can't avoid it entirely forever.
