On the Patriots All-Access television program, RB Steven Jackson relayed that when Bill Belichick first called him about coming for a December tryout, he told him that before he could accept he had to put himself through his own workout with his personal trainer. "I wanted to be honest with myself and I wanted to be honest with Coach. I said, ‘Coach, I really appreciate the phone call but I want to make sure that if I come in I want to be effective. Let me work myself out.' … Once I went through that workout, about two hours, I looked for all the reasons to say ‘no' and I didn't find it. I called Coach back and said ‘I want to take you up on that offer it's still available.'"

I know he barely ran last game but I think there's more left in the tank than I originally thought after just watching those few. And this is a vet who knows this is his chance to put the finishing touches on his career. I'm guardedly excited for what else he can do.

I thought the same thing when I was watching. I saw a guy whom might have benefitted from a little time off.
Let's hope for the best.

I dunno, I never realized how big that dude is until he cut off the dreadlocks.

If Jackson has a successful postseason, I wonder if he'd come back next season.

he would already have a SB ring, so that would prob work against next year return though

It would be excellent provided that chronology is right. Step one: have a successful postseason. Step two: come back next year :).

Just curious, whats he getting paid? Just wondering how they (Teams in general) pay players that come late into a season. Is it just vet min, or did they need to entice him with higher pay and incentives?

Jackson's a savage (that's a compliment). It's too bad he was burried in St Louis all those years because his combination of speed, acceleration, power, and holistic understand of the position is incredibly rare. If he were drafted by a competent team he would be a first-ballot lock. I remember watching him in awe when he was at Oregon State. He was Jamie Collins plus 30 pounds in dreads playing running back. IIRC, the Rams drafted him 2 or 3 spots behind where the Pats drafted Wilfork and I'm still conflicted by whom I'd rather have.

It's an incredibly small sample size but it does look like he has some fuel left in the tank. Hit the hole hard, had decisive burst, and made up for some rapidly closing holes with his acceleration. It's going to be interesting to see how things play out but based on last week there is certainly cause for cautious optimism.

If he doesn't get 18-20 carries this week, then I don't know what the hell McDaniels is doing anymore.

Agreed, although he's still trying to learn his assignments, calls, and overall verbiage of the system, so 18-20 carries may be a bit much at this point in time.

I would definitely think that he should see 12-14 carries, however. Perhaps they can use him effectively with the same handful of looks, which could get him into your 18-20 carry total? Otherwise, I think it'll be a split between Bolden and Jackson on some level.
