Edelman: Broken Foot, Likely Back for Playoffs

Incorrect. Gronk is the most important next to Brady. Gronk is indeed irreplaceable and a top 5 player in the league.

Outside of quarterbacks and maybe JJ Watt, Gronk is the most valuable and irreplaceable player in the NFL.

Brady will play. But whether he does or not is irrelevant to Edelman getting game time in before the playoffs.

Even if Brady plays, he will only last a drive or two; just enough game reps to stay sharp.

The reason I don't see Edelman playing at all is because with this particular injury that he has, it is better to be overcautious than to risk a refracture which happens to a small percentage of players.

An interesting question. If the Pats are undefeated, have the division, the bye, and the first seed locked up, do they play all their starters in the last game (or even the second to last game, possibly)?

I see us going 15-1 at best, maybe 14-2.

Irreplaceable, I agree. Most valuable? Considering the type of offense the Pats run and Dion also out... there's definitely a strong argument Edelman more valuable than Gronk. If Dion (quick/shifty outlet) was playing or in any other offense, it'd be Gronk. I just see losing Edelman in this scenario seriously affecting the offense 'til he's back.

Ha, nice. But nope. Guess many of you like to think all Jet fans (or other fans in general) hate the Pats. I get it. "Us against the world" is a fun role to play. Which granted isn't uncommon, but not everyone hates the Pats.

Edelman going down doesn't really affect the Jets. Perhaps week 16 will be an easier win now ;), but I'm now worried the Bills may take advantage of it too this week, which hurts our wildcard chances. So really makes no difference to me as a Jet fan.

As a football fan who appreciates what the guy does on the field, it sucks and I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a tough hurdle to overcome. As an Edelman fantasy owner in a PPR league, this just flat out blows.

The assumption is he is ready to play.
So you would hold him out of practice too?

In practice he would be limited, and he would be able to stop anytime he felt pain, such as when running a route for example.

You can't do that in a game.

Stress fractures are not a joke.

You think that he can prevent a stress fracture by feeling pain and stopping?
Perhaps we should just ir him. No sense keeping him active if we are going to send him from the couch to the field.

The medical consensus on stress fractures suggest that it is better to err on the side of caution than to have someone come back sooner than necessary. Part of that is for Edelman to back off if he feels too much pain, and that's something he can do easily during practice.

Our goal is AFC homefield advantage and a first round bye, and once we achieve that, I don't think we're going to needlessly risk injury to our key players by playing them in games that are meaningless.

Losing Edleman and Lewis is obviously very rough. But the way I started to look at it as this week moves on is if we had had them all year, with how bad the league is right now, we would have just decimated everyone.

Brady is still Brady, and he still has Gronk, and a lot of talent on the Offense. We watched him go 12-4 get to an AFCCG with Rechee Caldwell as his leading receiver in 2006. (And should have gone to the Super Bowl and won it that year too!)

I am starting to think that Brady is just going to will this team throughout like he has many, many time already. Our offense might even look totally different at some point. But it will still win enough games for one seed in this AFC year. And I got to believe and hope for Edleman to return for at least the Super Bowl, probably all the playoffs. They say he will be back for the playoffs but either way they will be in the big game. In order to win it I think we need him but I'm confident based on my reading he should be back for the playoff run. Get the bye, get the HFA as early as possible... It will be tough to be 13-0 with it clinched and to not go balls to the wall for 16-0, but I think they are going to have to play it careful in that situation. Players will play and play to win, but some will sit at least some of the time. I know we were not going for 16-0 but Gronk did not play at all last game of regular season, and I think Edleman might not have either. Honestly, if we have to get all the way to 15-0 to clinch the one seed, I would go all out to be 16-0 because historically speaking that last game is no longer "meaningless" IMO in that case.

EDIT PS: BTW, Pittsburgh is the team that worries me in AFC. (Though we have owned them, but the past does not matter) I would hate to see them in the Divisional while the Colts or Texans or some **** layup go to Denver or Cinci.

JJ Watt? LOL... just another rusher. He's good, but definitely replaceable.

The only ones I'd put ahead of Gronk as irreplaceable right now would be:

1. Tom Brady
2. Aaron Rodgers
3. Gronk

Check out the Pitt remaining schedule. They could easily go 2-4, 1-5 or 3-3.

They have a good run D but their pass D is still awful.

No, our goal is to win the SB. Having players game ready in the playoffs is the best way to do that.
Your idea that he could prevent an injury because its practice both is dubious and conflicts with the assumption that started this discussion, that he is ready. If he feels pain during the game, meaning he is not ready, he can come off the field then too. You can't tell him not to run until kickoff of the AFCCG and expect anything from him, and if he can run, he should be getting game ready.

The final game will most likely be a meaningless one. Brady will probably not play.
Brady may not play? Have you followed this team over the last 15 years?

It is not dubious to err on the side of caution when it comes to recovering from stress fracture. It has been proven that players who come back too soon risk either refracture or a complete fracture.

Replying just to your PS: I agree. The two teams that worry me the most (I know, I know, "Any given Sunday...yada...yada") are the Steelers and the Giants. The Steelers are getting stronger as the season goes on and will be "battle hardened" for the Playoffs. The Giants...who knows? But, with the Packers in some sort of swoon and with Cam Newton and Carson Palmer as the main NFC pretenders, it's not out of the question that Eli puts together one of his patented runs. If we end up playing them in the SB again, I'm looking for a planet in another Solar System on which to hide for the day. I could not take another one of those games.
