OT was letting both Talib and Revis sign elsewhere a good decision?

We will find out in the playoffs. If the 2ndary does not get better then a repeat SB win is unlikely. Butler is good but not on the level of Talib and Revis. Not even close. Ryan is erratic at best and Coleman in intense but not special.

I worry about facing Pitt with Brown/Bryant in the playoffs wth the secondary as currently constituted.

Defenses are not driven solely by CBs. Both the Jets and the Donkeys have great defensive personnel, with or without Revis and Talib.

Yes, it is nice to have 3 INTs, but those aren't the guys pressuring the QBs. They aren't making all the tackles. I cannot claim I watched all of their games, but some of those INTs were bad throws they fielded (not phenomenal catches). But both defenses are much more than those two.

And I would ask why they would need to carry those teams, if that is what you conclude. Could it be that they played a role in sapping money from the offenses and now their teams cannot beat a balanced team with an offense? And who have they played, given the fact nothing is won in the NFL by a regular season record?

I dunno. I see your and Supafly's point, definitely, but I am really insecure about our secondary.

Being insecure about the secondary is understandable.

Thinking Browner would make the situation better @$4m year is questionable.

I loved the physicality he brought to the team but the numbers show that he was a very average CB in coverage

2014
9 games
388 coverage snaps
55 targets 29 catches allowed 430 yards 1 INT 2 TDs allowed
82 rating
Plus when you add the 12 reg season penalties for 118 yards that makes it a bit worse.

Ryan had roughly the same numbers at 25% the salary and I'm luke warm on him as well.

You can now see why BB wanted him to take a pay cut.

Darrelle Revis Shines In Patriots' 2014 Season-Long Pass-Coverage Stats

right now, both are CaRRYING there teams to 6-0 and 4-1 records because of there outstanding playmaking ability.

Would have been nice to keep one of them long term, especially with our CB depth being very thin
when he was here it seemed talib was always hurt, especially in the post season, there must be something in the rocky mountain water that keeps him healthy. Revis wanted to much, and wanted to play in NY. So letting them go and focus on getting a better pass rush was the best option.

A 1 year rental with revis and it got us a SB..have fun in NY not winning anything!

I'd have to guess that the upcoming situations of Chandler Jones, Collins, and Hightower likely factored into the decision with Revis, but that's just a guess. Either way, I definitely agree with the decision they made, but I respectfully disagree with some who are downplaying the importance to their teams this year.

Both have 3 INTs so far (Talib has played one more game than Revis), and Talib has turned two of those picks into defensive touchdown scores. When you're playing close games like DEN is, those scores are enormous. As a matter of fact, I don't see how you can't credit 2/6 wins to Talib alone. He also has 7 passes defended so far.

Revis has played in one game less, and has 3 INTs and 3 fumble recoveries in five games, so he's brought some playmaking ability, leadership, and swag with him to New York. Both teams are currently getting their money worth, although the popular thought is that won't last much past 2016/2017. Who knows?

Imagine if the Pats had either Talib or Revis right now. They could be 5-0 instead of.... Oh wait....

Would this team be better with either of these players? The answer is maybe. We don't know what would have had to give to sign them. Actually, we know in Talib's case. The Pats wouldn't have signed Revis last year.

BTW, without either Talib or Revis, the Pats are a top 10 defense (to go with their #1 offense).

would of been great to have an all pro corner.
Would be great if you would stop repeating yourself over and over. We get it. You want all pros in every position and the salary cap is BS. As mentioned its a real shame that 5-0 record. We are 9th in the NFL Pass yards allowed and tied for 6th points allowed.

Just grow up already. Seriously.

Potential or certain probowl/all pros on the team already
Brady lock
Vollmer lock
Ghost lock
Collins lock
Gronk lock
Dmac probable
Possible Edleman - only 3 AFC WRs ahead of him with receptions and JE has more TDs than 2 of them
Slater ST lock of he is not injured.
Jones is tied for 2nd in the NFL for sacks

But noooo...We dont have a All pro corner that ties up 30 million of cap space booo phuckin hoo.

Bill was never going to match the deals they got.
Talib might have been in reach. I think his injury history factored into that decision. There's no way in hell Bill signs Revis at the number he got. And he was right.

Why are you guys feedin this dude? He complains about what the pats do constantly. He's givin his mccourty va Bryant argument rest with this one.

Agreed. If you are complaining about anything about the Pats right now you are a complete loser. Sorry, you are.

Talib is clearly a yes. That let us get Revis and get a championship.

Letting Revis sign somewhere else... we will see. It would have been hard to keep him though. Maybe he was always going to sign with the Jets unless w blew their offer away. No one but Revis and a few people know for sure.

For this year maybe and maybe not. So far it seems like it is okay though.

We won't know for sure until the Super bowl to be honest.

Last year we ended up 13th in yards allowed and 8th in points.

So, this year with our "depleated gutted terrible" corner backs we are 4 positions better so far in yards and 2 positions better in points.

Can one of you Revis ball washers explain that to me?

I shared an opinion that I believe Dez Bryant is a better football player at his position than Devon Mccourty. Doesn't make me less of a patriots fan. I still love devon.

I haven't complained about anything. I love the patriots. The patriots run my life. I am looking toward the bigger picture. I want to repeat

This thread was not a complaint it was a question

Well, not signing Talib led to signing Revis. Which you can't complain about. I'm not sure if Talib would've had the same impact as Revis, whose name alone made QBs decide before the game that they weren't going to bother throwing at him.

Revis was going where the most money was.

Even if we matched the Jets' offer but had 1-2 million less in guaranteed money, I'd bet he signs with NY every time.

I and several people had concerns about Talib's durability as well.

Why does anyone who defends revis get labeled a ball washer? Revis was a member of this team despite leaving us for the dark side. Revis was a great player for us, a key reason we won the Super Bowl last year.

I have never said our secondary was poor, never. The only criticism I have laid out was lack of height in our secondary.

BFD. Who says Dez would have lasted 3 weeks here? Obviously BB did not want him for some reason. Also Bryant was 12th in receptions last year, 8th in yards, 10th in yds a game, and 35th in the NFL yds after catch.

DMac is considered a top 2-3 FS in the league. So you can say whatever you want but the stats dont back your claim. as great as Dez is.

You are complaining. And its annoying. And you would have a tiny bit of a point if the Pats D was worse than last year, or the team was not undefeated. Unfortunately for you the D is better in several categories and the team is undefeated.

So shut the fuk up already.

Ahh so now its "height" that is the issue. Seems strange since Mevis isnt even that tall. Well I guess you have to ***** about "height" and find something to worry about.
You certainly cant point to the defense, the points allowed, the pass yards allowed or the undefeated record.

Lame
