That's my point. Its hard to have any confidence in the guy. Surprising he is still on the roster.
Fortunately, Bill is the one who makes these decisions. I don't suppose any of you fans of Dobson noticed the absolutely textbook block he made to spring Amendola for a 16 yard play on (I believe) a third down.

Man, no need to have Brady on the field after 40 points, that sack was dangerous, Big Ben was in the middle of the pocket as well also Brady have been there in 2008.

BB needs to pump the breaks a little bit, I know Tom is tasting blood but we gotta be smarter than the rest of the league, everybody wins with Brady going down, especially this season.

Not sure if this was discussed much already, but I noted the following in the below post-game analysis:

http://nesn.com/2015/09/patriots-advanced-stats-jamie-collins-jabaal-sheard-excel-in-pass-rush/

My interpretation is that they allowed the 9-year veteran some rest while the younger players gained more experience. I know that many on the Board will typically deny the notion that BB would willingly sit his best players, but it doesn't seem like he respected the Jags from the game's onset.

Given that he's 30 and the team knows what they have in him as their #2 CB, I don't disapprove. I hope he stays healthy.

Makes sense. But he probably wanted to keep him in his back pocket just in case. If the Pats were down or in a close game in the 2nd half i have little doubt he would have gone in.

A couple of thoughts which have not been raised previously.

One: Kudos and hat's off to Slater for being hyper alert on the fake punt. Head's up play right there. I was really caught off guard by that but I am glad he was not.

Two: Jimmy G had his helmet on for much of the second quarter. Was it because he was told by the coaching staff to be ready to go in at any moment? If it started looking chippy out there and they wanted to protect Tom, they might have tossed him in. A little surprised they still kept Tom in and I think it's to get him some game reps with and throws to Chandler, Amendola, Dobson and Martin.

I thought I would do a 3 up and 3 down post. Most of the players have maintained their level of excellence and it's hard to find fault with any player in such a lopsided game.

UP
1: Blount. Nice to see we still have a power run game. That was missing from the first 2 games.
2. Martin. He is no Reggie Wayne but it didn't take him long to understand the offense. Nice pick-up Bill.
3. Coleman. No Fletcher makes anybody taking his spot an up but I thought he played well

Down
1: Dobson. Too inconsistent.
2. Mason. Just a down for his role as a fullback. He is still a work in progress
3. Harmon. A down for one bad play

It's professional football, not tiddlywinks. If Brady's afraid of getting hit, he should retire.

He's not afraid of getting hit, neither is Belichick, so why are you?

Kevin Harlon started the "Brady is still in the game" ******** in the third quarter. Why are the Patriots the only team expected to pull their QB and stop trying before the end of the game?

By the way, the Steelers were only up 9-3 at that time. I'm pretty sure the starting QB would be in the game at that point.

Why is every thread now about Dobson and dropping a pass...get over it

It's a postgame discussion. People who watched the game believe that Dobson dropped a pass or two and they are discussing that in an appropriate thread. Perhaps it's you who needs to get over it?

Probably this.

I will say the "drop" in the end zone was high and behind him. Hit him in the hands, he should catch it, but that was a tough play.

1. They ran that play in practice and White fooled them. Like Butler in the SB, they might have got beat in practice but they knew how to play it when it came up in the game

2. The only reason I think they kept Brady in there was Belichick wanted the team to play all 60 minutes instead of 50 minutes and let up. Just a subtle reminder to develop that killer instinct and not let the opponent back into the game with a chance to win.

I hear you, and Dobson isn't the only guy out there who's failing to come down with catchable balls, but...

It's now 3 games of Lafell's PUP stay, and time is running out for Dobson. He needs to be better with his hands, or he'll be watching games instead of playing in them. This team doesn't need unestablished WRs it can't trust to catch the ball.

Totally agree.

We'll see how Keshawn Martin assimilates here too. I always thought he was a nice little player until he fell off the map last year.

Today was a good start, even though one of his targets was a Brady Panic Throw rolling to his left.

Interesting on point 1!

On 2 though, if BB wanted to play 60, why take Gronk, Edelman and Lewis out? I cannot figure out why he would take them out and leave Brady in.

I don't get this snark. I wasn't talking about the overall game performance, I was pointing out a SINGULAR defensive set that allowed the SAME PLAY TO BE SUCCESSFUL OVER AND OVER.

THAT is a problem, from MY 50 years of NFL viewing, that needs work.

Joker - I just did a quick review. The Jaguars did have 6 passes completed to the right side (they had a 7th that was nullified by a penalty). However, one of those was the Deep Ball to Hurns which definitely wasn't a swing pass. The other 5 passes completed to the right side went for 7,8,13,5,and 9 yards respectively. Are you really complaining about 5 passes that amounted to 42 yards?

RE: Mason as the FB. I think he did better than previously. On the sweep right, he ran made it around the end and was at the second level when the back-side CB who was coming across got to Lewis after 10 yards..

Without a Gronk or Edelman Touchdown lol
And that's the amazing thing (among a few)! The Pats score 51 points without TD's from either. Refer back to the '400 TD's' thread and Gronk got the most votes followed by Edelman. Now, I don't know if the Jags are as bad as they looked today. I don't know how much better the Pats are than what they showed today. But anytime you get 51 points without your top receiving options registering TD's, then you're doing something incredibly right (and the team you're playing has a ways to go;)).

The 60-Minute Men.

If you are going to give the other guys some reps, you might as well get them with the starting QB. ?

Plus, the O line was doing a superb job giving Brady a (mostly) clean pocket.

It's scary how efficient and precise this offense has become- can't recall when it has clicked so well. Not just talking about putting points on the board, but how well everyone plays, and how complete of a game they play (.e.g, pass-blocking). Brady is playing as well as I've ever seen him, and it's rubbed off on everyone else to the point where this team looks hyperfocused.

Is it me or is BB even more boring at his press conferences? Example from game-day PC:

We try to take the game, whenever the game is and then work backwards. So, the game, the day before the game, two days before the game, three days before the game, four days before the game - wherever you put the game, we try to work backwards so that three days before the game as a player, as a coach you kind of know where you should be from a preparation standpoint. Two days before the game, you're in a routine, you kind of know where you need to be, these are the things we need to have covered because one day before the game, here are the things we're going to cover there.

Translation: This guy is really happy with how things are going.

Quite frankly, it looks like deflategate has turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Thanks Rog, you're the best. You really bungled this one.

Ya not sure I get why he is getting railed on for the deep ball drop. He drew the PI and the defender iirc might have been the reason for it coming loose. I mean I thought people wanted a guy that can go deep and draw flags like that?

As for the TD drop, ya he's gotta make that catch but from what I recall Dobson had to reach back a little.

I completely agree! That was what I had posted earlier. Was trying to figure out Canuck's argument that Bill kept Brady in there because "he wanted the team to play all 60 minutes."
