Good stuff here.

But that observation hinges on the question of which gauge was used to set the PSI prior to kickoff. If the gauge that generates the higher numbers was used, the measurements of the Patriots footballs taken by that gauge are mostly consistent with the 11.52-11.32 PSI range at halftime: (1) 11.8; (2) 11.2; (3) 11.5; (4) 11.0; (5) 11.45; (6) 11.95; (7) 12.3; (8) 11.55; (9) 11.35; (10) 10.9; and (11) 11.35.

Based on those readings, three of the footballs were above the predicted range, five were in the predicted range, and three were below the predicted range.

Whichever gauge was used the measured PSI aren't that far off the predicted especially given that there's significant question if the predicted was done correctly based on physicist who said the wetness wasn't applied correctly into the ideal gas law.

But, but, but.........

The colts' balls ! THE COLTS BaLLS ! They make all the difference ! Because Anderson checks every ball and uses a gauge and has never ever lost track of balls !!!!!!!

I find PFT to be one of the most schizophrenic online publications. In one post they rip the patriots as cheaters and in the next they're saying the data is inconclusive and possibly even skews towards the patriots NOT being cheaters. I admit I give them a lot of clicks but seriously it's getting annoying.

I noticed this too.

they want ALL the clicks!

gotta catch 'em all!!

Florio trolls at 100%. He knows to generate the most traffic he needs both sides of it. If it is all pro-Pats then he doesn't get the clicks from the 31 other teams. If it is all anti-Pats then he loses out on tweaking every other fan base. He's really got this down to a science.

PFT keeps changing the tone every hour. One minute yee is doing a poor job.One minute rip the PSI.

Just Florio being Florio. He was never pro or anti Patriots or any team. He's pro clicks and that's it.

I would post there more but it does get tiresome putting in the 5 to 10 minute effort to create a well thought out post that doesn't make it past their moderator for who knows what reason only to see blatant trolling and moronic posts do make it to the board.

What an amazing s*** show the NFL has become.

So let's say Walt used the gauge Wells says he used, and let's say Exponent handled the experiment correctly, despite the Maine professor and others with more understand saying they didn't...

Let's say all that...WE'RE TALKING ABOUT LESS THAN A HALF-POUND OF PSI IN A FOOTBALL.

Good grief.

ps. Give Florio credit for a very nice catch - read the explanation of which gauge Anderson used...it makes no f***ing sense at all. All it says is "Because 1+1=2, thus 37"

they're trying to cover all the bases. ;)

My dog just tooted and she lost .22 PSI. I'll apply the Less Than Ideal Gas Law here..

I think this point is going to give Brady all the ammo for any appeal. Anderson said he used the gauge with the logo (although not sure), but Wells assumed that he used the non-logoed one for all the science (because those readings were more damning).

Florio didn't go far enough. Here is the text from page 52:

Although Anderson‟s best recollection is that he used the Logo Gauge, he said that it is certainly possible that he used the Non-Logo Gauge.

Florio said that Anderson wasn't sure which one he used. He was pretty sure it was the one that is more favorable to the Pats. My guess is that if we got a transcript of his interview, he probably said he used the logoed gauge and Wells tried to get him to waiver and asked him is there a chance that

Then in the footnotes of that page, it is written:

For the reasons described in Section VII.B, we believe it is more probable that Anderson used the Non-Logo Gauge for his pre-game measurements.

Here is the reasoning from Section VII.B:

In addition, Exponent determined that when the Logo and Non-Logo Gauges measure an identical pressure, different readings are produced. According to Exponent, the Logo Gauge produced readings that were generally in the range of 0.3-0.4 psi higher than the NonLogo Gauge. However, for a given set of measurements, the differential between the gauges generally remained consistent when compared to a calibrated gauge. In other words, in the short term, both the Logo Gauge and Non-Logo Gauge read consistently, though differently from each other. Exponent‟s experimental results were aligned with the measurements recorded at halftime, which indicated a consistent gauge-to-gauge differential of 0.3-0.45 psi. Exponent relied upon this information, as well as the fact that during the testing the Non-Logo Gauge never produced a reading higher than the Logo Gauge, to conclude that Walt Anderson most likely used the Non-Logo Gauge to inspect the game balls prior to the game

So basically, they went against Walt Anderson's best guess of which gauge he used because Exponent determined that the other gauge makes the Patriots look more guilty.

Florio is playing both sides to generate clicks.

That's because PFTs business idea seems to be to annoy people, which makes people talk about them and post links to them and say "look how stupid they are to say this", which gives them more clicks and money. So of course they will go both anti pats and pro pats, as that gives them a boatlload of readers from all sites. They are pro money/clicks and will be pro and anti every team in order to get it.

A good example of this is when Steve Smith signed with the Ravens. Smith said something like "Flacco throws a really good deep ball". PFT instantly turned it to an article about Smith disrespecting Cam Newton. So instantly they get readers from both Ravens fans who want to hear good things about their team, and annoyed Panthers fans.

They are really good at getting readers this way.

He wants both Patriot fans and Patriot haters to click.

Professional pot-stirrers.

Just the fact that nobody really cared about the accuracy of the gauges (a bent indicator arrow? seriously?) shows just how insignificant this rule is to the actual game of football. How this became a "thing" is mind boggling. The incompetence of Roger Goodell is truly breathtaking; he created this monster, nurtured it and in the process has very likely permanently tarnished the reputation of one of the greatest and most respected players in the history of the game. Worse yet, he isn't finished; I'm quite confident that his bumbling will continue and he'll make matters even worse.
Nothing happened, no one had an advantage, no one tampered with the balls, it's abundantly clear from the report.
