Don't sign, trade for or acquire Randy Moss petition

I started this thread, and I can't believe you come here NOW that we have acquired Moss to point out how stupid it was. Where were you BEFORE we acquired him?

For the record (and I posted as much earlier today), I have softened my stance on Moss somewhat - for two reasons - we only gave up a 4th round pick for him and we only signed him to a 1 year deal and only commited 3M to him. (Is any of that guaranteed?) A 4th round pick is a long shot to make a team like this anyway - so why not take a chance on a talent like Moss? If he starts to cause problems you just cut him and the experiment didn't cost you very much.

I still am nervous about the guy, but in BB I DO trust and if he thinks this was a good risk to take I am ok with it - with the caveats stated and covered by the low draft pick and low risk contract.

It's just that I can remember some awfully distasteful things that Randy Moss has done - such as using his automobile to push a meter maid because she was writing him a ticket, or pantomiming a moon job on live TV. Is that the kind of role model you want for your children? That's why, even while I will hope he has grown up and will give him the benefit of the doubt, I will have a hard time rooting for him wholeheartedly.

I like him now

Wow. You're worse than a politician. Have some guts and stick to your word. I'm glad you aren't a Patriot since you don't stand by what you say.

You too are an idiot. Have a pair, be a man and stick by your original statement. Don't let your kids watch Patriots games anymore.
Athletes aren't required to be role-models; that's what a parent should do.

Making personal attacks are not going to convince anyone that I am the idiot. How old are you, anyway?

Apparently people weren't here before they acquired him because they had no problems with Randy Moss becoming a Patriot. Didn't you read what you wrote in the original post? You told people not to post unless they were in support of your "petition." Remember?

I am old enough to see that you are of the Mitt Romney school of flip-flopping your opinion. Be a man of your word.

Whatever. You take things people write here a bit too seriously. What do you do for a living? Scour old newspaper articles looking for inconsistencies in a politician's position?

point made, but rest assured...I was one of those guys that always wanted him, even going back to the trade talks at the trade deadline, see post..

You weren't one of the ones that was in response to. It was to the classy people, mostly johnny come latelies on this board, who wrote things like:

"I can't believe someone started this thread."

"This thread was particularly stupid"

and my favorite,

"You too are an idiot."

Whatever. You take things people write here a bit too seriously. What do you do for a living? Scour old newspaper articles looking for inconsistencies in a politician's position?

Wow. You're good. Maybe YOU take things too seriously. Maybe Randy Moss was having fun when he mocked chucking a moon at the Lambeau crowd; did you ever think that he was "clowning" around? Stop, you stink like hypocrite. I don't work, I am independently wealthy which affords me the privelage of calling you out. Don't write it if you don't mean it. Do you have no dignity in what you write? I may have a candidate here for an ignore list. . . . . .

So that would make you, what, 16?

Show me where I flip flopped. I was against signing him, and now that it has happened I am still leery but will keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. And since we didn't pay a lot for him (in draft picks or contract commitment) I said that we haven't risked a lot if he doesn't work out. You may be well assured that BB, SP and RK had much the same conversation before doing the deal.

So, where exactly did I flip flop, sonny?

And a literal response to your question concerning "scouring old newspapers for inconsistencies in a politician's position" is yes in fact I do. You MUST be a BUSHIE. Because you know manipulating the truth or just flat out lying to people is ok.

Some of you guys are crazy. How can you not be IN LOVE with this trade. We traded a 4th rounder in a weak draft and got Randy Moss, probably still the best WR in the game, for only $3 million, PLUS the Niners 1st round pick next year, which could end up being a Top 10 pick. The Pats now have 2 1st round picks, 1 2nd, and 2 3rds in next year's draft. Plus we got our man Meriweather outa the draft this year. This is a no loose situation. Moss has said that he wants to play and is willing to be a team player to win. A 70% paycut speaks volumes. If he doesn't change his ways, you really don't lose a thing. If he plays great, then you just stole a GREAT player. To me, NO risk, extremely high reward. Guys, it doesn't get any better than that.

And for the record, anyone who believes Moss lost a step is just plain wrong. He recorded a 4.30 40 in Florida last week.

You didn't want him on the Pats so you started a petition. Now that the Patriots have him, it's ok because it only cost us a 4th rounder and Randy has agreed to restructure his contract. hmmmm.

Consider this thread a petition against signing Randy Moss. The post count will be considered signatures, so if you're not with me don't post in this thread. If you are, please do.

I've been here all year... I check this forum AT LEAST once a day, and when someone post and says don't respond if you disagree, I won't post... I have always been supportive of the Randy Moss trade and I'm looking forward to a exciting year... I will be standing by what I said, I can't believe someone, especially a "so-called" Patriot fan, will START A PETITION to not trade for a player... How immature, and did ya really think Scott Pioli and Bill Billichick would actually listen to your petition? ROFL...

Let me explain it to you this way, sonny. Let's say your mommy is dating a man you don't like. You know he has a shady past. She is talking about marrying him so you tell her you don't like him, but she does it anyway.

What do you do then, stop speaking to your mommy? Move out of her basement and get your own apartment. No, not if you are rational and you love your mommy - you accept that what's done is done, congratulate your mommy, hope that the guy has changed and hope it works out.

At least that's what a MATURE person would do.

I like that analogy

What the hell are you talking about? This is a football forum, not a James Dobson Focus on the Family forum.

And stop calling me "sonny." You'd get a mouth shot for saying that to someone's face; unless of course you're 84 and smoke a corn cob pipe.

EDIT: the more I read that analogy, the dumber it is. You're comparing football matters to a family matter; why? I don't know. How old are you all knowing and ethical one of many wise years?

There is no one who loves the Patriots more than I do, but I would be really disgusted with them if they actually signed Randy Moss. He is the opposite of everything I love about the Patriots, who have come to be known for classy, unselfish, hard-working, dedicated, high-character players. I would have a really hard time even rooting for them if they did sign him. I would do it, but it would be really hard to be happy about any contributions he made to the team.

Who is with me?
oooo now u look bad...glad it worked :rocker:

I hate that anology. That is nothing like our situation. Moss to the Pats is like investing a little bit of money into a stock with huge potential, lets say you got inside information and you are fairly sure this stock with skyrocket. You put a good little bit of money there, but your friend decides he will stake a bit of it for you. Almost no risk, extremely high reward.

The whole "I hate the guy" has nothing to do with it. It's not about his personality, it's about how he plays football. And it's a win-win situation. It would be more like you're mom deciding just to dating a superstar that has had some troubled past. If he turns out to be an ******* and whatever, you dump him after the first date and only lose the cost of gas. However, if he turns out to be awesome, you get the riches and a cool dude, all for an extremely low price.
