Chandler Jones & Akeem Ayers

Next time C Jones shows up in a playoff game will be the first time he showed up in a playoff game.

Most overrated current Pats player.

When your football IQ is as low as yours, I can only feel sad for you believing in something that's false.

*IF* Chandler Jones is still recovering, than the OP is right and Ayers should be sprinkled in occasionally.

I do not think that Jones is overrated at all. I think the rule is that if the OT has to hold/hug the DE then he is getting beat on a pretty regular basis. This is not the first game that Jones gets treated like that. My issue is Nink being out there all of the time. Ayers is a better pass rusher than Nink and can drop into coverage almost as well. I love what he has done for us over the years, but he does not have much burst and is not very stout at the point of attack. I would like to see Ayers and Nink split 50-50 and 25-75 with Jones to get him some rest.

They need to activate Moore and play ayers more.

Hey I'm all for it being called both ways but I'm not gonna kill the guy when this was happening to him pretty much all night

can we talk about this "contain" philosophy for mobile QBs?

by containing Flacco, what exactly did we acheive. stop him from throwing 5tds on us instead of 4? and he still got his deep balls on us (FLACK IT UP THERE and GET PENALTY).

i am happy with the result of the weekend but i may have lost a year of my life..

I am not sure why people even say he is a mobile QB he has 70 yards rushing on the season and only averages 90 for his career by today's NFL standards he is a statue back there,

none of us really know the game plane but it looked like they went out there with the bend but don't break hope the other team makes a mistake defense and Flacco was perfect like he has been in his in his last 5 or 6 playoff games but in the 2th half when they bring a few more guys they got two INT's the story here is BB's bend but don't break defense has not really worked vs good QB's the last 5 or 6 years they have the talent at DB now to mix it up a little more and they did in the 2th half and got a win

I was completely shocked to see some well respected posters predicting a huge contract for Ayers. The kinds of numbers being thrown out were insanely ridiculous in my opinion.

He was a fine role player signing at a time when we knew that Chandler Jones wouldn't be able to play for 6+ weeks, but he's really nothing close to what some are trying to claim. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing more of him in the sense of another 10-12 snaps or so. I just don't see them taking Chandler off the field, that's all.

As good as the defense has looked at times, it certainly wouldn't hurt to try and improve upon the position of DE. I'm not as sure that Moore is that guy, though.

Greetings,
I was not really impressed with the line, as a whole, during the game. I agree that giving him and Nink 10 less snaps a game would greatly help the team, so they can have both have more in the tank. One thing I notice is that as the season goes on, Chandler play goes down. Maybe it's the injuries. It is a mystery to me as well as to why Ayers did not see more time at that spot!!

For those 10-12 snaps maybe they should be on the field together.

Ninkovich was beyond useless pass rushing in this game. He couldn't even beat the rookie OT.

There is a lot of extreme in this thread - - either 'no problem with Chandler and Nink last night' or Chandler is way overrated and stunk out the joint'.

I'm somewhere in the middle - - what I saw was (like last year, but because there was no alternative last year) Chandler and Nink being overused and Ayers not being brought in enough for them to give them breathers. There should be a rotation just so they don't wear down.

Nink, in particular did a crappy job last night not setting the edge at all. He looked like he was running underwater.

Instead of Chandler and Nink playing 77 out of 77 snaps, how 'bout each get around 65 out of 77 and Ayers get around 24? Surely there were a few 3rd and longs where he could have come in for Nink.

This. Explosiveness declines faster with exertion than raw strength (e.g., holding the point of attack) or top-end speed. Give the top guys a series or two off, Bill. Use the depth that your genius GM acquired.

the ravens didn't get a single sack from the edge, either........solder and vollmer had no help........

I'll take that trade......zero sacks for jones and ninko if zero sacks from dumervil and suggs

Completely agree with the above statement. Our Oline was a huge factor in winning that game. Something that I think has been overlooked is the fact that Logan Ryan pushed T. Smith away from the hail marry that Devin knocked out the end zone.

I was adamant that Jones was being mauled on the weekend but still, it's annoying that Belichick can sometimes get away from guys because of match ups of whatever it is. I'm a firm believer in playing the hot hand and Ayers has been darn good since the Patriots picked him up.

Ayers adds dynamic playmaking ability to the Patriots D. For one reason or another, the guy is almost always in a position to play. Given those qualifications, if the Patriots win, I shouldn't be concerned with who is on the field for how many snaps. I guess it's more the mentality of mixing things up.

Ironically, the Patriots won so meh.

It's not about rushing yardage, it's about all the boots and roll outs that Kubiak's offense uses. The pass rushes, particularly the guys on the edge, have to play contain because if they don't it gives the QB one of the easiest NFL passes.

We'll probably see more of the same for the rest of the season, unfortunately, with Luck up next and Rodgers/Wilson the possible SB opponents.

I suspect those that want to see more Ayers will get their chance next week. NE is probably going to be in sub the entire game.

pressure leads to bad decisions. bend but dont break may work with geno but at this point we need to get assume these QB's we will face are a bit smarter. some pressure will easily make luck make bad decisions...see past pats games or even the recent cowboys game

That's kind of a stupid statement as Ninkovich wasn't against Yanda every down.

@MikeGiardi: In the 1st half, Pats moved their best pass rusher, Chandler Jones, to rush vs Marshall Yanda, Balt's best linemen, 6 times. No pressures. 0

He faced Yanda 6 times and got nowhere.

And Ninkovich faced the rookie OT multiple times and got nowhere. So no, he doesn't deserve "a pass".
