Just because he seems to be struggling doesn't mean he won't pick it up and live up to his billing... just be patient.

Signed,

Danny Amendola, Josh Boyce, Joey Galloway, Chad Jackson, Bethel Johnson, Brandon Lloyd, Taylor Price, Chad Ochocinco, Brandon Tate, and David Terrell.

He got hurt and/or can't crack the starting lineup in his first or second year, so dump him.

Signed,

Steve Smith , Hines Ward, Donald Driver, Vincent Jackson, Derrick Mason, Roddy White, Jimmy Smith, Jordy Nelson, Troy Brown, David Givens, Ben Watson, Wes Welker and Julian Edelman

In his blog guessing this week's inactives, Reiss mentions Dobson being practice player of the week, probably playing megatron.

Interesting. He still lists him (guess) inactive, though.

I love how BB helps fit these young players hats back into their helmets. Rumors that dobson was beeyotchin at Mcdaniels or underperforming in practice and now he's practice player of the week.

I think we see him before the playoffs.

another week of no dobson..wooo

Your first paragraph is ridiculous, and it only goes down from there.

"Contributing" in the New England system is doing whatever you need to do for the team in the particular situation you are called upon - - NOT having to "need 5-7 targets to be effective" - - that is Dallas Cowboys mentality.

And no one in this thread was complaining about Brady's weapons and running out of time, blah, blah, blah - - you are inventing strawmen to argue there.

They have gotten nothing from Tyms since the great catch in the Buffalo game. I'm hoping the foot of Dobson gets better to the extent he can get in there and give this offense a credible deep threat that can open up opposing D's more in the playoffs. Between Gronk/Edelman and the power RBs, they may very well start crowding the box more. Loosening that up can only help.

5-7 targets because I'm considering drops, how can you not? Do you think Dobson is going to come in and catch every ball thrown his way? I'm judging Dobson based off what I saw last season and what I saw was a player who had a ton of potential but also dropped a good amount of passes/lined up wrong. Maybe his hands/confidence have gotten better ... but how do you know? It's not like he plays and BB doesn't even think he's worth activating most weeks.

It's a known fact people have been crying for years about how NE doesn't bring in weapons for TB, so the year they go out and make additions who have been really paying off on both sides of the ball the fans want to ditch what has been working to continue the "develop" of Dobson. How does that make any sense?

I agree, I do want to see Dobson succeed but I'm not calling for him to be thrown in there just for the sake of it. I'll trust BB and whatever his plan is for Dobson, he's the one who gets to see him play daily.

Amendola, I use to say he needs to be cut but now I feel different about him as hes taken on a new role. If they can get him for real cheap, I definitely feel he can help us doing what he's doing now in his new role. I look at the WR FA list and I see a lot of names, but I also don't think a lot of those good WRs will be moved. So once you get them out of the way, the list becomes very small.

Amendola will be cut. Whether we then sign him to another contract for "real cheap" is another matter. The patriots and others will compare him to what is available at what price. I agree that we will not likely be competing for top shelf receivers. It would not surprise me if Amendola is one of the top ten (or even top five) receivers available after the first month of the pre-season.

Wide receiver depth is indeed a serious issue for the patriots. We have Edelman and LaFell. We need one more, even to play 3 WR sets. We also need a backup or two.

Who do we have competing for the #3 WR roster spots for next year (considering Amendola gone)?
Dobson
Tyms
Boyce
Krause
Orton

Amendola and other free agents will certainly considered. I see us bringing in at least two wide receivers to compete with this weak group, perhaps including Amendola. I understand that many think that this group couldn't possibly perform worse than Amendola has been performing. I strongly disagree, as apparently does Belichick.

You, as others, seem to think that patriots can simply sign Amendola at the league minimum if they wish (real cheap were your words). Perhaps, you all are right. Perhaps, Amendola will find that no one else is interested. However, I suspect that some other team would be interested, and that a home town discount would not happen. After all, he might want at least a chance to compete for major reps elsewhere. He could get them here, but I would suspect that going elsewhere might be considered more desirable than taking a 75% pay cut from the patriots, with the expectation that he would be a solid contributor.

To me, the fact that he's still on the roster, while they cut Don Jones to free up a spot, implies that the coaches still hope that he can contribute this year.

I can't make sense of this. The team decided that TWELVE defensive backs was too many, so that somehow says something about whether we should carry FIVE wide receivers.

IMHO, we need five receivers in case of injury. After all, we generally have four active receivers. Having one in reserve is not a lot. Also, the team often has players on the roster WITHOUT the expectation that he produce this year. Do you really think, at this point, that the patriots expect James White to produce this year? I don't, and yet, I think that he should remain on the roster.

My belief is that I expect nothing from either Tyms or Dobson this year. I also think that both should remain on the 53 for the rest of the year. The HOPE is for next year. We need wide receivers to compete for roster spots on next year's roster. Tyms and Dobson are inexpensive alternatives, and both should be retained.

Once again, the immediate gratification crowd demands its pound of flesh (which has to be the only reason this thread still exists) "rolleyes:

I couldn't help but notice that when the network turned the spotlight on Golden Tate that in BOTH his first 2 years in the league, Tate failed to get 40 catches OR 400 yds. Think about this. Dobson will STILL likely have more catches, TDs and yardage from HIS first 2 years than Tate did from his first 2 years in the league (in 12 fewer games). and that assumes he doesn't play another snap this season, because Tate is just ANOTHER very good WR who didn't wow people in his first couple of years.

Now I have no idea if Aaron Dobson is going to turn into the next Golden Tate or Alshon Jeffery. But I am equally ignorant whether he can't. As of this s moment, the Pat don't have much of a use for Dobson, even if he swapped positions with Tyms on the 46 man roster. Lots of healing and learning is going to happen on over the next 10 months.

BTW- next year I see the receiver group as stacked before we add a sole. But that's a topic for another thread. ;)

I'm not an expert on this so there might be a good reason, but, if you've given up on him for the season and assuming a valid injury, can't you place an injured player on IR for the rest of the season and thus protect him while opening up a roster spot?

Yeah, I agree with all of this ... I'm just assuming we can get him for cheap, if we can't it wouldn't be a big blow. Just a random thought, I could see them bringing in Cecil Shorts for a look

I'm with you that the hope is that he contributes this year, but keeping him around could be a sign of things to come for 2015 just as well.

As pointed out, we're not exactly in a luxurious position at WR for the future right now, so I'd see no reason whatsoever to consider dumping our 2nd round pick from last year prior to the end of training camp in August (in a worst case position).

Yes, Dobson could be put on IR if he is injured, thus protecting a roster spot.

Dobson active. Is this related to the Lafell injury?

Yeah. That was the first thing I was thinking. If Lafell cannot play, our chances of winning drop by at least 20%, IMO.

Dobson does not have the time with Brady to be effective.

Half a season more than Lafell. We will see. He has been practicing.

Why? He was on the team last year and has been practicing for the entire season.
