Jerod Mayo suffers knee injury

They save $3.8m on 2015 if the cut him after June 2.

Love Mayo but in these past two years he simply has not been sturdy.

He threw his helmet after he went down suggesting he knew it was bad, then the doc calls for the cart. Bad signs. If he goes on IR, the thinness at LB is alarming.

Regardless of the severity of Mayo's injury, we know he'll be out against the Jets..
I have to say that Skinner and White didn't do half bad stepping in..
They DO need Hightower back, though..

The worst part is there really isn't anyone they can add out there..

Pats will probably make the playoffs without Mayo, but I doubt they'll go far. Hope it is less serious than it looked.

Whether this injury is of the season-ending variety or not, one has to wonder what NE does with Mayo at this point? He's got the big contract, but he sadly has been limited due to injury. There are other guys to lock up, including the man who has just put two very good to elite WR's in witness protection in consecutive weeks. Do they ask him to restructure?

It's possible, but my guess would be no. Mayo's too good, and his injuries haven't been chronic/wear-and-tear in nature. With the cap rapidly rising over the next few years, I think they would look at other players to free up cap space before they'd look to Mayo. ANd since any McCourty/Revis extension can be pretty backloaded, I think that the cap space that they get from trading Mankins/getting Hernandez off the books might be enough to accomodate both of them.

It would not surprise me if this was JM's last game in a Patriots uniform.

Hightower was a game-time decision today, so barring any setbacks I think he'll be good to go on Thursday.

You typically don't bring the cart out if it's just a sprain.

Unfortunately.

I think we better get used to Skinner.
I think we're all expecting to hear that his season's over, but until it's definite might as well hold out some hope.

I would be shocked. The locker room revolves around him and he is a beast when healthy.

hope it isn't but im fearing the dreaded acl tear. same with ridley.
maybe we can trade for a decent LB. the bucs stink, give us david!

Definitely sound like he's done.

You aren't typically prone to such stupid comments, but this is pretty bad..Especially since Mayo is under contract through the 2018 season..

Skinner wasn't very good in the passing game, did a little better as the game progressed. Better as a blitzer and in the run game only. Getting Zeus back will help a lot.

hightowers knee is also injured.
gotta question BB letting some of these guys go. even a guy like spikes

Definitely sound like he's done.
It's sure sounds that way...even though no matter how many times I saw the replay I could not see anything substantial....no contact, didn't see the knee buckle. There are plenty of none contact ACL tears, but that play simply didn't look like it.

I'm not gonna speculate on what it means, but certainly interesting Ridley had a brace and Mayo had a sleeve for their respective knees.

I am hoping Ridley is an MCL. Would be oe out for a while but not necessarily season ending (unless he needs a roster spot). Hoping for the best here.
EDIT:

Patriots RB Stevan Ridley will have an MRI tomorrow. It's a knee injury. Fear is that he tore his ACL.

I highly disagree, this is exactly what I thought as well. If it's an ACL tear, I also believe this was last game as a Patriot. He is injured just about every year, in fact I can't remember him going more that 1 year without a major injury...He is paid very well and the injuries are adding up. I really hope I am wrong on this.

Mayo left stadium on crutches with compression sleeve on right leg covering calf and knee. Asked how he is, shook head and said, "not good."

Also was told by two sources that Brady's ankle injury was "no joke" and it took significant work and treatment to get it right.
